Chapter One: A little unwanted help.

The day was like many before it, Applebloom found herself once more in the arms of her sweetheart. The smile graced her face like many before it, as they both sat against the same tree—no, their tree. As she laid back into her colt’s arms, she couldn't help but think about how much their little town had changed over the years. Of course the town wasn't the only place that grew.Years under Applejack's mentor-ship had put a strong set of bucking muscles in her legs. Her raspberry mane had grown longer, then she cut it short, then it grew long again and she decided she liked it short. She liked to tie her mane in a bun now, and kept it beneath one of her sister's battered old stetsons, even her colt friend had grown into a fine stallion over the years.

After a while his lanky frame filled out, showing more muscle than most could have thought possible for the little guy. The most shocking was when his height followed suite. But of course she didn’t fall for him because of his build, or the fact his accent sent shivers down her spine. Applebloom smiled as she shook her head. She turned to place a small kiss on Pipsqueak’s cheek.

Yes, just like all the times they spent here, Applebloom always found her thoughts going back to the same place. They always revolved around the love that seems to strike Ponyville like lightning. Several couples popped up like weeds over the years, some cute and others...interesting.

It seemed every pony had somepony. Fluttershy had finally built up the courage to ask Big Mac out! Now, not only was she pregnant, she and Big Mac were also due to wed. It was kind of a shock to see two very shy ponies hit it off. Still, they were very cute together.

Then there was the couple that was the biggest uproar in all of ponyville; nopony had seen the marriage of Rarity and Donut Joe coming. Several ponies thought it was some kind of scandal or publicity stunt. whenever Rarity was questioned, she’d supply the same response: “What can I say, darlings, He just swept me off my hooves. I could hardly resist a stallion like him and his rugged charm. It doesn't help that he's also quite dashing in a tux—truly, I didn't have a chance."

Of course Applebloom couldn't judge. Nopony saw her and Pipsqueak becoming a couple. And nopony saw Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell becoming an item. Over the years the two began to fall in love with each other’s little quirks and talents, and in all honesty made a great couple. Now they both went around the world performing together.

One couldn't forget the strange relationship Pinkie Pie was in. The main reason being nopony knew who she was dating. All anypony knew was it had to be a super secret or the world as we know it could explode—Well, that was according to Pinkie .

Even Twilight found love in the strangest way. It would seem that Rainbow Dash was too much for even an alicorn to resist. Lucky for her, Starlight glimmer was more than happy to help Twilight reign the wonderbolt in. Now they were a trio. It was strange, but who was going to tell a princess and two heroes of equestria they were in the wrong?

Pip’s voice broke through her train of thought like it always did “Luv, you’re making that face again. You promised you wouldn't bother her again”

There it was; that amazing cute voice and his overly smart mind, beating her to the punch. She sighed. In a way he was right, though—she was thinking about it again.

Applebloom looked off into the distance. Out there somewhere in the orchard was her sister bucking apples, alone. Applebloom had lost count of how many times she tried to convince her sister to at least try to find love. In her eyes, if any pony deserved love it was Applejack. She had helped so many ponies and even had a hoof in getting some of the couples together.

Her sister, stubborn as a full apple cart in the mud, insisted she didn't need anypony close in her life. But Applebloom watched her sister closely during the hours she spent alone doing chores she didn't need to do—only an excuse to get away—and had heard her sister sob some nights through her bedroom wall. She knew the symptoms of loneliness when she saw them, even if Applejack didn't, or couldn't. And if that didn't upset her enough it seemed her sister didn't even want to try. Every single time she would bring it up she get the same answer. “Listen here, sis, my love life ain't none of your concern.” After countless times pestering her sister on the subject, Applejack clammed up completely. For a month she'd given Applebloom the cold shoulder, until Applebloom at last caved, declaring a Pinkie Promise she would not bring up relationships around her sister.

It just wasn't fair. Of course she, like many others, wouldn't dare break a Pinkie Promise. That didn't mean she couldn't bend it (Her sister taught her that). And she already had a plan in mind. It was now or never. Jumping to her hooves, she smiled.

Pip shook his head and sighed, “Why do I get the feeling I’m not going to like whatever you're planning.” He’d backed down from Applebloom’s wild schemes before. When she tugged him to his hooves, something about the urgency and passion in the tug told him he wasn’t going to escape this time.

“Yer right, sugar, ah can't talk to her about it. That doesn't mean we can't go digging around in her room! If there is a clue about her liking somepony, we’ll find it there.” Before Pip quite knew what was happening, Applebloom had gripped his hoof like a vise and was practically dragging him down the slope to her family's homestead.

“Come on, she's still got hours left before she turns in. Let's go!”

Pipsqueak hung his head in defeat. Once Applebloom had an idea in her head, there was no stopping her. It would seem stubbornness ran in the Apple’s blood. So Pip did what he always did and did what he was told to do.

He finally spoke after they entered Applejack's room, which was probably the last place he’d want to be caught. Sure, if Applebloom was caught she might get a stern talking to. He was more likely to get bucked clean out of the house. His chest tightened at the thought of receiving one of Applejack’s famous bucks.

“So luv, can we find whatever it is and get out of here? Quickly?”

Applebloom didn’t so much as look at him, she had already started her search. “We're lookin’ for her diary. Ah just can't believe ah didn’t think of it before. There has to be something there!”

Pipsqueak sighed, “How do you know she even has a diary?”

Applebloom snorted while shaking her head. “Because, sugar, all mares have a dairy. Even Rainbow—Aha!” As Applebloom pulled the book out from under the mattress, she did a small victory dance.

Not even a second later she plopped down on the bed, patting the spot beside her. Pipsqueak hesitated, “Luv, are you sure this is a good idea? I really don't want to upset your sister.”

Applebloom's eyes narrowed, an impish smile spreading across her cheeks. “Well if you're afraid of my sister, ah could always go tell Big Mac what happened at that Pinkie Pie party last week.”

Pipsqueak’s entire face turned scarlet as the memories of that night came rushing back. Applebloom giggled, she knew she had him, “Now stop yer worrying and get yer cute butt over here. Let's find out if my sis has a crush!”

Hanging his head in defeat, Pip did what she asked. Applebloom giggled at his cute defeated look before opening her sister’s diary. Even tough she really enjoyed the cuteness of her coltfriend, she had much more pressing matters to attend. And everypony knew that when she had a mission in mind nopony would stop her.

She decided it would probably be a good idea to start from the back of the book. That way if she did find a crush it would be the most recent. Upon reaching the last entry her face scrunched up, it would seem her sister did not update this a lot. Quickly Applebloom speed through the pages trying to find anything that didn’t involve the farm.

Her eyes widened as she came upon a certain entry. She anxiously nudged Pip’s shoulder. “Hey, this is they day you asked my sis permission to date me.”

Bested by his curiosity, Pip gulped down a lump in his throat and began to read the diary entry.

{Dear Diary,
Today the darnedest thing happened. The young colt that my sis has been gushing over these past couple of weeks came by wanting my permission to date her! I have to say it was a good way to impress me. It makes me wonder if Applebloom maybe gave him some hints?

Now there ain't nothing wrong with him. He seems kinda sweet. It’s just hard to see my baby sis growing so fast. Still, he seemed like a nice enough colt, so I said yes. Besides, I knew Applebloom would start dating one day and who was I to stop her.

But—and Celestia can be my witness—if that colt does anything to harm my sister, well, let’s just say I won't stop bucking him until I see apples fall off of him. }

An uncontrollable shiver when up Pip’s spine. He gulped as he turned to face Applebloom, “Luv, remind me to never cross your big sis. She scares me more than Luna on Nightmare Night.”

Applebloom shook her head before diving deeper into the book. As funny as the last entry was, it wasn't what she needed. So her search continued until she reached a more interesting entry.

“Wow, she wrote a bunch on this day. Ah wonder why this day was so important to her? Any idea, Pip?”

Pipsqueak's eyes widen as the date sank in, “That's the day Rarity got married, luv.” Applebloom’s lips formed a O, this was the biggest entry yet, and that in itself brought up many questions. Silently they both started to read.

{Dear diary,
I’m a horrible pony. I know I should be overfilled with joy for one of my best friends. I mean, this is a huge day for Rarity. She finally found the stallion of her dreams. I still think it's great that it was Joe of all stallions, man did that send a lot of ponies heads a-rolling.

But instead of putting all of my attention to my best friend, I just couldn't seem to keep my eyes off of him. I mean, think about it: this whole day has to be hard on him. I couldn't help the thundering of my heart. I can't lie to you, for one brief moment I had a horrible thought. Maybe now I could tell him?

Yet, like always, I couldn't do it. It wouldn't be honest. Even if I fell in love with him all those years ago, I could never play with his heart like that. He was hurting, but even if my heart only has love for him, I won’t interfere.

Still, that doesn't stop the dreams, or the feeling of comfort when he's around. Who would blame me either he’s such a caring, kind, silly and all around great guy. It doesn’t matter, I should have been paying more attention to my friend. Thank Celestia, Rarity didn’t notice how distracted I was during the reception.

Heck, I’ve written a lot. I still have one last thing, though. I think my life is pretty well planned out already. Being honest can be a curse, seein’ as that honesty is what keeps him trapped in my heart. I guess once I found love, I can never love anyone else. Isn't that true love, though? So I will do what I always do and sit on the sidelines. I know it sounds dumb, but deep down I know the love has to be honest on both sides. I don't think he will ever get over her and if I interfere it wouldn't be truthful. It’s funny he will probably never get her out of his heart, and I will never get him out of mine.

So here I will sit alone, still it's no big deal I hope he finds some great love someday. I’m fine with how my life will play out. ]

Pipsqueak and Applebloom just just stared at each other with tears in their eyes. It was like Applejack’s very soul was poured into her words. Applebloom was the first to speak

“This is why she won't let me find her a colt. She’s already found the love of her life. Oh Aj, how long have you been hiding this?”

Shutting the book, Applebloom wiped her tears away before hopping to her hooves. “Well, she won't suffer anymore, ‘cause we're going to help her! Ah don't know about you sugarcube, but ah think it’s time to go visit Rarity.”

The poor colt didn’t have time to answer as his marefriend pulled him to his hooves. Pipsqueak could only shake his head as he as pulled along. His only hope was that Applejack wouldn't come after him if she found out they had been snooping in her diary.
