Seriously, though, this is some deep, philosophical stuff. What is honor? Is it connected in any way to moral righteousness? When is it right to follow your superior's orders, and when is it right to defy them?
It's sad, indeed, but it gets you thinking. That's the kind of story I like to read.

This was really good. My mind raced through all kind of possibilities as to why he was alone: wife cheating, them splitting up, she dying, etc. I guess she dying on her own was the least terrible thing. Terrible still, but... coulda been worse.
Cool fic. Very sad. Although I have to point, many times you talk about man and woman, shouldn't it be stallion and mare?

Don't hate it, didn't especially love it. I don't really like one shots, but this was one of the better ones. Would definitely like it if you could continue this story, but you already have several stories going on so do whatever you want. Story was pretty good, with all that honor and all (always thought honor was bullcrap, but that's my opinion

Oh yeah, I coulda made this a big ol' twenty chapter story but then I was like: "No, better not, Gaius would be angry."
Love it. I was afraid it was about Shining Armor, but then i told myself I was retarded when the father died. I will recommend to friends, thank you for the nice story!
This story was well-written, and I am not disappointed I read it. The ending was satisfying in that it did not leave insufferable loose ends, and the body of the story made me feel like I was right there at the table when the narrator was telling the story.

huh? how can you blame honour for that? they aren't really connected to the darkside of his honour. it was just a cruel twist of fate. however it is well written (I would have hesitated with the whole "man" thing-good thing no one seemed to mind). so I'll not say its good or bad.
I'm already writing a review on this, but I have to say something here too.
This is really nice. It's really cool how you showed how honor is not always a good thing, how devotion to it can be corrupted. It's just...deep stuff here.
