The young, golden pegasus named Spitfire Avelidale wakes up to the morning of The Best Young Flier's Competition, an event she's been training for in an attempt to follow in her parents' hoofsteps. However, the path she has followed has been paved in tears, blood, heartbreak and loss and has effected the country as a whole but more importantly to Spitfire, her family.
Along the way, Spitfire runs into a young Soarin. The young stallion, completely enthralled with a conspiracy theory tabloid's article shows Spitfire what's all the rage in Equestria today. The image he shows her completely baffles Spitfire. The image shown is labeled as 'The Flaming UFO', a flying object of which is completely covered in fire. The journalist further explaining that the ponies of Ponyville who witnessed the event 'feared for their lives' from this 'flaming alien life'.
In all honesty, it's just another bizarre day in the life of Spitfire.

I'm a part of an rping group and waaaay back before I fully understood how the naming dynamic worked for MLP when I played Spitfire in our group, I randomly started enunciating syllables until I came up with Avelidale. For whatever weird reason, it's just stuck with me ^.^ I also came up with it because I can't stand having one name characters like... they HAVE to have a last name xD
