I am glad to be rid of it. Since the writing of that author's note, I have actually ditched any and all reliance on Microsoft. I don't even use Word anymore! Apple Pages is my new friend, which ironically... Despite it's more simplistic design... It actually works a lot better than Windows.
That's the funny part about this: with Windows you are reliant on downloading third party apps because the built in ones suck that bad, but on Mac... A lot of the stock apps... Are more than acceptable. I didn't feel the "need" to get Word or Open office, iWorks handled the job just fine. What's dumber is Microsoft doesn't even *include* a word processor whereas Mac does.
Yeah they are expensive, I mean I paid around $3000 for mine, but... You get everything in the box to get to work right away. I remember when I built my PC... It was a good day before I could start working because day one goes like this:
With my iMac... I was able to skip most of those steps. I enjoy how Apple has a lot of this stuff set to automatic so that I don't have to deal with this crap.
I was using PCs since I was 7 years old, and I was always pretty tech savvy, but Windows has... It's gone downhill. Microsoft has settled on being "good enough" and that's the problem. They no longer care about excelling. I now understand why a lot of writers switch to Mac. I know when I get home from work I can COUNT on my computer working and not having a boxing match that will exhaust my whole night. That piece of mind is really worth it for me, because when you work full time on top of doing this, you can't afford lost nights. I actually had to retype entire chapters of this story because Windows shit the bed.

And to add on top of this, if you have other Apple products you can pick up your writing wherever you are and you can be rest assured that with iCloud it won’t just magically disappear out of thin air.

Get them second-hand, and familiarize yourself with independent repair shops in the area.
Apple's business model is based around the systems being disposable and having people buy a new one whenever something goes wrong. They will tell you that "Apple customers are best served by certified Apple service", but that is a lie. While Applecare means they will attempt repairs, their "Genius bar" personnel are trained as salespeople and have minimal technical training.
There is a man by the name of Louis Rossman who has a YouTube channel where he shows technically adept people how to repair damaged Apple products. If you took a broken Macbook, flew to New York City, paid him to fix it in person, and flew back, then you would still be saving money over having your local Apple store perform a non-warranty repair.
Speaking as a person who is an IT support professional, and who has repaired Apple products as a job function, I can say with certainty that Apple does NOT have a good track record when it comes to customer support, and it has been both exceptionally bad and deteriorating since they switched from PowerPC to the X86 architecture.
Also: Everything you described you could have in a $250 chromebook. Power on, log in, done.

Chromebooks are not a viable option for me due to my very unreliable internet (I live in Germany), so a device that does not function 100% without internet simply doesn't meet my needs. That and I bought a $3000 model for a reason, I do a lot more than just write, I do video editing as well and with Windows... A single crash can lose you HOURS of work. It makes more sense to invest in a mac where it is more stable.
As far as repairs go... I have yet to ever have to have an Apple product repaired.
I prefer the interface and the connectivity without the hassle. It's a decision I made, a switch that I was comfortable with, and I have no plans on switching back. I actually also went to school for IT, so I knew what I was getting into. I simply prefer the user experience that Apple offers, far less hassle. Sure I know how to fix computers and build them as I've been doing it for years... But the reality is: I don't want to anymore. I simply don't have time to deal with that nonsense. I went Mac because of their reliability and uptime and so far... I have not been displeased.
I respect everyone's decisions to get what they want, but Apple works for me. I haven't had a single issue over the past 4 years that I've been using Apple products, so I'd say... It works for me. Sure I pay more, but I am comfortable with what I pay.
What annoys me the most is how many people try to convince me to simply ditch all the Apple products I have because they will tell me about X bad thing that I've never experienced or Y bad thing that I probably never will experience. Honestly, the hardest part of using Apple is dealing with the constant amount of defending people expect you to do about how you spend your own money. :P
9302800 Sorry for butting in on this conversation, but I find it hilarious that you've never ever had a problem with Mac and switched to it for that reason, while I use Windows because I've never ever had a problem with Windows (that I didn't cause myself at least. Never try to overclock your RAM XD) and every Mac I've ever had basically self destructed. You do you with your computer, but Pseudo is right. If that thing does break on you, you'll find out just how little Apple cares about it's customers. Which is about as little as Microsoft TBH.
I'm glad your current rig is stable and reliable. You're fortunate :3
Though to be 100% fair, you dont need to install MSWord/Office on Windows. It comes stock with Wordpad. Which while fairly bare bones (like iWorks, IMO), is more than good enough for basic writing and document making.

There's a lot more to it than that, but I kept the discussion minimal because this really isn't the place for it.
Let's just leave the conversation here, as I'd prefer the comments section to be... About the story if that's alright. I am in no way telling others to switch. I'm comfortable where I am and if others are as well, I suggest they stay where they are too. It just gets exhausting that people feel the need to press me to "defend" my choices.
With that, I'm closing discussion and let's keep the comments majority focused on the story, please and thank you.
