Valar morghulis.

T

An optimistic asari archaeologist.
A turian ex-soldier with a dark past.
A bitter krogan mercenary.

Mutual benefit binds them together as they plunge into the depths of the Perseus Veil sector to find the motherlode of artifacts on an uncharted world, one year after the end of the Reaper War.

Three weeks after the changeling invasion, the citizens of Equestria, Gryphonia and all other countries of this planet learn that they are not alone in the universe.

No side will come out of this encounter unchanged. All actions have reactions, and all choices have consequences.

***

Crossover between the Mass Effect Universe and MLP.

I don't own either franchise.

For those interested:
This story takes place after an alternative, fan ending of ME3. The link to an explanation of the fan ending is here:

However, the Destroy ending will also work for the purposes of this story.
You may want to read the inspiration and thanks first.

hmm, sounds interesting, I'll watch for more :D

pretty good so far:moustache:

So author likes Crogan and Turian as team too. Heavy force plus Tech specialist with combat skills.
Hm... This will turn out to be interesting. :trollestia:

+1 like and faved.
Waiting for more!

877477 :facehoof: It's "Krogan" mate. Sa- no. Type it with me. "Krogan".

877600
Long time no play. Sorry. :twilightblush:
Distracted by thinking of opportunities of story.

Need to remind myself Not to type things when excited/etc. :facehoof:

877651 Yeah, sorry for getting annoyed at you for that. Just got through replaying the Krogan section of ME3, so... yeah.:twilightsheepish:

This is pretty good except for one major problem: you're making eezo and magic the same. Element zero has a very defined set of abilities, and it simply can't do many of the things that magic does in MLP. It can't teleport people, it can't make objects appear out of thin air nor transform one object into another, it can't make apple trees grow in a dessert, it can't give people punny curses, and it most certainly is not amplified by love like MLP magic. Trying to pass of eezo and magic as the same is . . . well, it's like trying to convince people that iron and xenon are the exact same thing.

Also, Twilight asking . . .
“They have magic?”
. . . Given the prevalence of magic in the Equestrian ecosystem this would be the equivalent of a Earth biologist being surprised that a creature drinks water.

I EXPECT GREAT QUANTITIES OF CHAPTERS COMING OUR WAY SOON! OR ELSE I WILL HAVE TO STOP YOU AND YOUR EVIL WAYS OF LETING US HANG!

878291

Thanks for the feedback!
"teleport"
Multiple biotic charges towards destination

"objects appear out of thin air nor transform one object into another"
Yeah, i'll have to think about this. Perhaps the show is using artistic liberty to show the new properties of the object?

"apple trees grow in a desert"
Appleoosa? Not sure. Perhaps the trees have longer roots than they first appear to have? I think there was a river nearby, though. I'll have to check.

"punny curses"
I'll say that's artistic liberty, as well as different physiological reactions to a complex toxin.

"amplified by love."
Perhaps a pheromone released that acts like adrenaline? Xenobiology...

As for Twilight, I've fixed her dialogue.

As for eezo and mass effect fields -
By the end of the first game, I'd have to agree that it was limited in its abilities.
By the end of the third game, it's been expanded to explain almost everything - space magic, in a way.

Eh, eezo is unobtainium. When you're welding together two very different universes like this I think it's fine to use stuff like that to smooth over the join, even if it's still a bit rough and ragged.

If there are aspects of magic that eezo simply cannot explain, you can also try just ignoring those little problems. As long as they're not central to a plot. :)

I've seen a few really good sci-fi human-in-Equestria stories, I'll keep following this one. Here's hoping the two sides don't wind up shooting each other up too badly. Given how cavalierly the visitors gunned down that cockatrice for its eezo I can forsee some potential for a tragic first contact.

879689
Now, see, the problem is that you're trying to explain away examples in the show with your premise instead of trying to explain away things in your premise with examples from the show. That's not good. This is especially true when you're trying to make element zero into magic, something which is theoretically impossible -- literally, eezo's a exotic particle theorized to exist in real life physics, it ain't magic. Even in the ME3 ending, which is the argument you're using for how eezo could be magical, it is just the delivery system for whatever the frak the Catalyst is shooting out, something that's well within its stated abilities (accelerating energy to FTL speeds, explained all the way back in ME1 as how comm bouys work).

Mini-chapter this time. I've encountered some sort of writer's block, but I've pre-written quite a lot. That should tide over.

kk nice MOAR MAN!

that's awesome :D

I kept thinking of this scene when reading.

[youtube=tLf92DUUx1E]

Just, ya know, without the grievous wounds going on.

886584

Grievous wounds are occurring. Just not on Sev.

And thanks, that was the vibe I wanted to get.

887089 Maybe I should have added "on the Krogan"...

Meh, whatever...

awesome! I love ME crossovers!:pinkiehappy:

Whoa! Captain Kirrahe reference!
So, the ponies got their hooves on a spent Thermal clip (Black rod? i'd thought thermal clips glow white hot when ejected)
Will be waiting for more

901663

The clips glow red-hot when ejected. This one had time to cool.

Great, those idiots on the warship just gave undeveloped civilization advanced tech....thats not good for the record....also, please dont fuck up first contact!

I can never get enough mass effect or mlp. This has BOTH in high quality entertaining writing. Mass Effect cross overs are magic now.:coolphoto: Don't ever stop wrinting this or I will DIE! (Not really but you get the point.)
This is the ONLY good mass effect/pony cross over I've ever read.

Also I agree, Batarian ships are crap anyway.

P.S. Where exactly in the ME time line does this story take place?

910131

After ME3.
You know about the ending, yeah? Bioware really dropped the ball on that, so I'm going with the Marauder Shields fan-ending.

"Those eyes. Filled with fear and terror"

Dem eyes!

I rip eyes like those out of newborn babies everyday after circumcising them, then perform such torture on them that it makes what happened so far seem like a dream. But I always leave one eye in to see it's terror filled expressions as it suffers. I have performed such tortures on over 5,000 so far, but none have died because they have been genetically modified to feel EVERYTHING their body experiences, even once they decay into dirt, and it will only stop once the particles are literally non-existent.

Sev: You can suck my quad space cow. Respect must be earned in some way not expected. Now go on, make my day.

As of Earth DLC, N7 Furies can now teleport through walls. Teleportation is canon!

910329 Link please for the fan ending

936875

Start from 6 onwards. Right now they've done up to 28.
http://koobismo.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24

Well the ponies have made themselves hostile to the group. They will soon know pain. If you can't get close its guerrilla Sniper rifle time!:pinkiecrazy:

First part =Lol. I was laughing a lot. Pwease don't kiww us. Me say "HAHA! Okay. NOT! Punch punch, kick kick, stab stab, cut cut, shoot shoot , stomp syom, burn burn, rip apart rip apart.

940042 You sure you're talking about Mass Effect and not Godzilla?

Yup, yet another victim of Celestia's apparent overreactions.
Oh well, what can be done?
:pinkiecrazy:>BURN THEM TO ASH.
Shut up.

Krogan are tougher then that. They've ,on occasion, brocken past enemy biotic attacks through sheer brute strength. The fact this fight ended so quickly is dissapointing but let's me hope for a turian viatnom style reprisal. Also, just for fun, here is a personal favorite quote of mine "No wonder you salariana are so soft. Too busy writing poatry about waterfalls."-Wrex

943765

Maybe against L5 biotics, but Celestia has a higher power-rating than that.

943808 Cheater. Krogan are sapposed to be the most badass race of our gallaxy just like the mandalorians are for that galaxy far, far away or the shiengelia/elites are for the haloverse.

Honestly if you ask me, I think the breakdown in communication was the fault of both parties. Our trio could have handled this much better, The could have explained the lack of formal tone as as a result of their translators, they could have stopped Sev from antagonizing the Royal Guard, they could have come up with a little white lie and claimed that they were archaeologists and were looking for relics from 37 million years ago, and at the very least they could have stated that they meant no harm :facehoof:. Celestia on her part, really should have done a better job. The aliens three at least have the excuse of none of them being trained diplomats, Celestia is the ruler of an entire nation and should know how to handle situations like this. She should have prevented the situation from escalating like that and possibly have tried to diffuse it when able, she should have ordered the guards too keep their weapons at the ready rather that point them at the aliens, lastly she should not have put them on the defensive by harassing them about the dead manticore and the fire! The fire should have been brought up in a more comfortable situation and the manticore should have been dropped entirely (Considering what manticores are like, she should have realized that they probably were defending themselves). I actually agree with celestia bringing several guard squads with her because she didn't know if the aliens were hostile or how many there were. Can you imagine that instead of our trio it was Batarian slavers that made first contact? Celestia wasn't being overly cautious, she was being smart.

tl;dr To both Princess Celestia and our intrepid Salvagers:

945761

Yeah...
It was tough to write her, in that spot. I had to balance between her fear of them - no matter how small - her desire for peace, and her desire to not be intimidated or seem weak. Still, we all make mistakes.

945778
I'm not saying that it was entirely her fault, Riana and Levin should have tried to rein in Sev. During first contact it's generally considered impolite to antagonize the monarch of a nation.

945794

Even the best of us fall prey to emotion.

:yay:"what do we do with a captured krogan early in the Mooooooooooorning"
no seriously, he might play nice for a bit but when he gets bored enough he´ll just go "bye i´m going for a walk" and simply go, probably even humiliate the guards a bit by walking calmly while they try jabbing at him.
point in case, you don´t keep a Krogan Prisoner, he just takes the lodging as long as he wants.
the ponies are screwed.

Take THAT you royal gaurd pricks!

974797

You should see what I've got in store for Armor and Celly.

hmmm.......Shining Armour is a dumbass when it comes to first contact and interrigation. :trixieshiftright:

Shining armour...kill him plox :D

986635
And people wondered why there was a shitstorm over the ending...

I see a Human tag. I don't see humans.
*sigh*
