Eyeswirl the Weirded

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-hm?

T

This story is a sequel to Sirens of CHS

A few weeks after the Friendship Games, the sirens settle into their new school lives. Waiting for them are friends old and new, acquaintances, complete strangers, and a few people they're not sure how to react to at all. The human Twilight Sparkle formally begins her studies into Friendship, with Sunset and the others there to help whenever possible. Across town, Principle Cinch makes the effort to find out exactly what her school is made of as the Shadowbolts... just kind of do stuff as normal. Nothing really changed for them, bar a few new students they'll be getting to know soon.

They and others will take each day as it comes.

Twilight and Dagi. Ship it.

After a hard day and little to no sleep past few days, I need to hit the hay, like, right now.
<notices this story>
...well, carp, there goes my sleep again :facehoof: Eh, I've been neglecting my health so much, what's few a more minutes?

<proceeds to read the chapter>

Sonata looked her over, looked over herself, looked at Aria again, crossed her arms, and huffed. "Well, one of us is gonna hafta change."

I lol'd :rainbowlaugh:

"Oh, I-I'm sorry," she said with a wobbly smile, "j-just..." Sniff! "They grow up so fa-ha-haaasst!!"

The big return of MomDagio :rainbowkiss:

Well, that, or they're all afraid of me because of the first time I visited their school.
...Come to think of it, that sort of explained why, in the past week or two since the Friendship Games, no one had joined.

You think, Dagi?
...is what I would like to say, but come to think of it, there weren't any cheerleaders before Dazzlings (occassional Pinkie Pie doesn't count), so there might be something else going on. I smell more members coming in the near future :trollestia:

She wondered how their bus ride was going. If they were arriving at Crystal Prep without incident. If she missed something on one of the forms she'd had to fill out and they weren't being admitted to the school. They would call her if that happened, right? It wouldn't be entirely out of character for them to shrug their shoulders, go home, and spend the rest of the day goofing off, but she wanted to think they would at lea-

MomDagio intenfisies...

"Wow," giggled Pinkie, "first thing in the morning, huh?"

Dem urges, man. Sometimes you gotta do what'cha gotta do no matter what.

I don't think Crystal Prep is ready. CHS had Pinkie Pie for years so they should be able to bear with weird. Others places have no such luck.

Sleep is important for a functional immune system. Please be careful with your health. :twilightoops:

MomDagio intenfisies...

Funnily enough, I had earnestly intended her they-grow-up-so-fast thing to just be her way of teasing them a little, but with where her thoughts left her in the previous story, it sort of became legitimate. :derpyderp2:
...Which means I have the perfect excuse? :trixieshiftright:

I don't think Crystal Prep is ready. CHS had Pinkie Pie for years so they should be able to bear with weird. Others places have no such luck.

To be fair, this is the school that has Sour Sweet and Sugarcoat attending, apparently with no one batting an eye. I've heard some interesting thoughts (they're in the second chapter, if you have the time. Preferrably after you've gotten some sleep. :twilightsheepish:) about the Shadowbolts and Crystal Prep as a whole being... different. Not just in terms of money or smugness, either.

Whether or not that's enough for the combined forces of Aria and Sonata, however, I don't know yet either. :twilightoops:

This promises to be an entertaining story. I shall follow with great interest.

Love that Momdagio. I hope Pinkie and Rarity join the cheer squad, or maybe Trixie.

And if Sci-Twi goes in a panic there's puppy therapy.

I don't know what she was trying to do there, but it probably wasn't to feel you up.

Well, not consciously, at least.

Applejack pointed at Adagio. "That hair?"
So did Rainbow. "Dat belly?"
And Pinkie. "Dat ass?"

Dammit Pinkie, you made me choke on my water!

Briefly looking her over, Sonata smiled. "Wow, I didn't know this place had a maid! Could you bring us some cookies and a soda?"

Hmm... <does da googles>
WARNING: Slightly saucy, but still SFW
derpicdn.net/img/2013/10/7/443378/full.jpg

A maid, huh? Wonder what Shining would think.

"I'm not sure we can afford to hire a maid."
"No Shiny, that's not what I was referring to..."
"And why do I need sexy maid when I have the greatest wife ever?"
""
<nine months later, Flurry Heart was born>

(Lemon Zest had startled everyone but Indigo by appearing out of nowhere when a chance to introduce herself came, claiming to have been there for a while)

"And this is Lemon Zest, this school's Pinkie Pie. A bit less random and doesn't break the laws of physics nearly as much, but at the cost of being much louder and being a terrible listener when her headphones are up."
"Does every school have their Pinkie Pie?"
"Let's just say, be glad you're not in Grffinstone High. I'm not sure how their walls still stand tall after so many explosions."

While Aria and Sonata were getting changed, Indigo realized that she'd somehow been duped into flattering Aria, like they were on a date and she was offended that Indigo wasn't giving her enough compliments or something.

I don't wanna be "that guy", but why do I have a feeling there was going to be an interesting, funny bit, but it had to be scrapped for time? It's a bit underwhelming, I would've loved to see it in action. Someday.

"Wait, Rarity doesn't have a gut fetish?!"

Headcannon ruined :raritycry:

Princess of Love and all, that's probably how it happened. :twilightoops:

I sort of get the impression that Lemon is CP's Fluttershy, given process of elimination and Sour Sweet being a slightly disturbing reflection of Pinkie's manic cheer and occasional psychosis when not happy. Indigo is definitely Rainbow, Sugarcoat is Applejack, Sunny strikes me as Rarity-ish, which just leaves those two, and between EQG Two-Face and Lemon Zest, who barely says a word (and when she does, she's such a loudmouth!), the most obvious connection along similar lines is Lemon.
It happens that I was thinking about this this morning and have notes at the end of the next chapter on it, but the way she tunes out the world with music might resonate strike a chord have meaning for someone similar to Fluttershy, I think. :trixieshiftright:

Worse than that, I'm afraid; it was a moment I wasn't sure how to crowbar into the scene in which it takes place and neither found room for elsewhere nor extended long enough to apparently make it feel meaningful. :twilightoops:

Headcannon ruined :raritycry:

One could still take the route that Rarity was just seizing the easy out Adagio gave her. Even if the sirens were just guessing back in that chapter, Rarity was standing there in shock for an awfully long time... :trixieshiftleft:
...Which was also unintentional on my part, just sounded funny.

8113037 I always thougth that the bus scene told us what we should expect from the five, in that they are inverse of main girls:

-Indigo was into competition and destroying their opponents, as opposed to how Dash wanted to compete, but mostly for fun and to unite the students
-Sugarcoat is blatantly stating the facts without the regard for anyone's feelings, unlike Applejack, who tried to be delicate about it and her honesty is more in a way of 'working hard and never giving up'

After that, it's getting murky.

-Sunny Flare doesn't strike me as particularly greedy, more like a snootier version of Rarity, the person we thought Rarity was when we first saw her in pilot, before she subverted our expectations with offering her tail to Stephen Magnet
-Sour Sweet constantly switches her moods from nice to pissed, unlike Fluttershy who stays her kind, demure self 99% of the time and it takes the quasi-brainwashing from Iron Will, Discord's magic or Zephyr Breeze's entire life to make her so much as a bit peeved.

That leaves us with Lemon Zest and Pinkie Pie, both of whom are loud and obnoxious, but for different reasons. Pinkie is all into making you smile, sometimes going overboard or misreading the mood, while Lemon Zest just shoves her music and lifestyle onto you without asking.

Granted, after Friendship Games they probably started to grow out of it and those personalities were exagerated due to upcoming competition and schools rivalry (bordering on propaganda). I still like them.

8113145
I think the same reasoning that they're the inverse of the main cast could be applied to say that Sour Sweet is almost always putting people down (even her 'Sweet' mode coming across as biting sarcasm) where Pinkie is always trying to perk them up, Lemon Zest being quiet most of the time not because she cares so much about bothering others like Fluttershy would, but because she doesn't care at all.
Then one could say that Sour generally being cruel where Flutters is kind and Lemon being irritating (in that jerk-listening-to-their-music-too-loud kind of way, even if she rarely says a word) where Pinkie (whose behavior can also be considered irritating no matter her intentions, I guess) strives to be fun could still make them respective opposites.

So yes, murky indeed, and I'm still not sure which way to lean. :twilightoops:

Luckily, I tend to aim for slightly different characterizations every time I write someone, so any and all could apply. :pinkiehappy:

Granted, after Friendship Games they probably started to grow out of it and those personalities were exagerated due to upcoming competition and schools rivalry (bordering on propaganda).

I like to think that could explain Rainbow's behavior in EQG3 (giant doom-plant is attacking and she just gained the power to fight it off, top priority? "We can still win this!"), even if the source of that borderline propaganda stuff was Rainbow herself on CHS's side.

Also,

before she subverted our expectations with offering her tail to Stephen Magnet

I know exactly what you're referring to, but my imagination still showed me something else. :derpyderp2:

The first order of business when that role was picked would have to be to name it something less... S&M-sounding, maybe...

Aw, but why though?

Love seeing Aria inventing her own schemes, and of course Blueblood, who certainly seems to like "sun" girls. I'd love to see him meet Trixie someday, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Sonata and Sunny Flare fight for him!

I second what howard035 said about Aria now getting to take the lead. I'm eager to see how she influences her new classmates - Indigo in particular!

I can't be the only one who wants to see Adagio's and Aria's respective cheerleader groups battle it out? In dance form, I mean. There are a few people in CP that would make for interesting choices.

Also, my opinion on Blueblood in this fic.

I don't know if anything of the sort will be happening for a long while, if it happens at all. It's certainly occurred to me, CHS and CP having some kind of cheerleader contest a ways down the road when/if both schools have decent cheerleading squads put together, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

And then you factor in that I'll be updating this thing at all pretty much at random. :twilightoops:

Also, my opinion on Blueblood in this fic.

The delightfully appropriate description of 'a sad bastard' (at least for most renditions) may or may not have stuck with me since hearing it said of him in another fic, some years ago. :twilightsheepish:

Here's a freebie for you- cheerleader battle in a song form. Tough, but don't tell me it won't be worth it :moustache:

That sounds like a cool story, I should check it out sometime :trollestia:

This Blueblood struck me more as a "high class buffoon" than a bastard, but sure.

8126559

Here's a freebie for you- cheerleader battle in a song form.

Was there another way it could be done? :rainbowhuh:
I mean, I guess there could just be a general summary of each side's performance, but that wouldn't distract from how flatly I write action scenes (even non-violent ones) very well. :twilightoops:

This Blueblood struck me more as a "high class buffoon" than a bastard, but sure.

It was a bit of both, I think, though his thinking of the other four girls (and not even noticing Aria or Nata) strictly in terms of the one he was interested in and Sugarcoat's comment about him having few friends were meant to hint a general dismissive disdain for other people, as I figured might fit for anyone raised by a bitter, widowed Cinch. I could probably stand to show that a little more in chapters when he's not around Sunny Flare. :trixieshiftright:

Come to think of it, I guess the fact that he stayed out of the Friendship Games just because Sunny asked him to (thus blowing off the entire school's precious 'win' in favor of taking her to a dance) is another point, but if what Sci-Twi said is true ("No one cares about anything they don't do themselves" or something), I doubt anyone that willingly joined the Shadowbolts participated for anyone but themselves.

8126610 The sheer fact that he was willing to throw away his reputation and risk his mother's ire JUST to invite her to the dance says something.

8128360
Don't be silly, we all know that giving into what the majority wants is how to prove you're a good person.

I'm kidding, you're right about him having been willing to take those chances. He's still a top student and Cinch was actually happy to have an excuse to not have her son participate (because she was pretty sure it would reflect badly on her in ways that might damage Crystal Prep's reputation, like she was one of those mothers who force their kids into beauty pagents), but even if it was a bold move for him at the time, CP winning anyway (and coming away caring much less about the competition in the end) kind of dulls the consequences of the act.
Still, now I want Blueblood to meet Sunset to discuss their opposite approaches to their whole schools wanting to win.

8128377 It would be hilarious if he was starting to fall for Sunset because of that. There would as many people who want a high school student dead as when first Equestria Girls trailers aired :trollestia: Sunny Flare would go full on tsun/yan-dere mode.

8128379
I should probably pick up my story in which Pony!Blueblood pursues Sunset even more zealously than this one is going after Sunny Flare some time. :twilightsheepish:

And, another fine angle to the if-things-work-out-that-way pile... :trixieshiftright:

*\0/* *\0/* *\0/*

*\0/* *\0/* *\0/*

I'm trying to remember what was going on in this series. I think Science Twilight was developing a crush on all three of the Sirens, who were Cheerleaders? That sounds about right.

She hadn't really spoken to Adagio much since the sportsmanship-slap was met with a painful (and mortifying, once Cadence heard about it!) face-slap at the Friendship Games after-party,

Yep, definitely the one where Twilight develops a Cheerleader fixation. Well, if you write Human Twilight/Adagio I don't think I'll have ever seen that pairing before.

Sunset, Adagio, and Twilight should form a three person "went mad with dark power and endangered the school" club.

Sunset offered a warm little grin. "Maybe she just likes the sound of your voice?"
Eyes briefly widening, Adagio turned her head away to hide a wide smile and a rosy blush.

Combined with last chapter... Twilight/Adagio/Sunset? Don't think I've ever seen that before either.

"Wait, Rarity doesn't have a gut fetish?!"

Well... not that Adagio can prove, anyway.

"It won't be that bad," Sunset said with a giggle while leading Twilight toward the workshop, "and if it is," she grinned wider and raised the hand not on Twilight's shoulder to make squeezing motions, "you can always just-"

Is Sunset saying Twilight getting grabby would stop the makeover or just that it would make it more bearable for her?

8139830
She's just teasing her for her multiple grope-y accidents, but knowing Rarity, it probably would stop things dead. :derpyderp2:

...Now I kind of want a scene in which Rarity shares lady-like bitch-slapping tips.

"Try to keep most of the force in your upper arm, not your hand, Darling, a lady defending her honor and becomes assault if too much oomph is applied."
"You speak from experience?"
"...Perhaps.

8139838
I know she's teasing, I was just curious as to the specific form.

The only tip about slapping I always remember is "Never glove-slap a man who says 'sirrah'."

side note:

Maud+Trixie

I forget, is there a Maud/Trixie ship in the background in this universe?

And while we're talking about the Shadowbolts, I don't know what the general Wondercolt-Shadowbolt rival consensus is, but I think Lemon Zest is actually Fluttershy's opposite number.

Possibly the groups don't neatly line up into exact parallels with each other.

One last observation:

She didn't know what Aria was doing or going to do, but she hadn't forgotten that they were in a fierce battle for the rank of Top Bitch! The first order of business when that role was picked would have to be to name it something less... S&M-sounding, maybe...

This version of Sonata really is different from the one in "Sucker for a Cute Face."

8140917

I forget, is there a Maud/Trixie ship in the background in this universe?

Not quite a ship, at least not yet, but they did start a friendship during the previous story.

Possibly the groups don't neatly line up into exact parallels with each other.

Could be. That would make it odd how well some of them fit together with Rainboom counterparts, but maybe the idea was scrapped halfway through when they decided to focus pretty much everything on Sci-Twi and Cinch.

This version of Sonata really is different from the one in "Sucker for a Cute Face."

I try to write the primary characters a little differently every time, but even so, I think this one more resembles the rendition in I Can Smile.

The grin slowly turned all evil, her eyes still focused on Adagio's back. "I've got an idea..."

Something to this effect, I assume.

Considering Adagio's experience as a manipulator, and her having to deal with others -- including Aria and Sonata -- I sincerely doubt that she actually believed Diamond Tiara's explanation. She may not know exactly what they are up to, but it's not about cotton candy. The question is, why? Plausible deniability? Part of her attempt at changing her ways? Maybe her own manipulative nature peaking through as knowing they were lying and not calling them out can be seen as an advantage?

On a different matter, maybe Twilight should join the cheerleaders. Downside is that it will mean she will be close to Adagio pretty often, putting her in danger of accidental groping, but the upside is that it may help her with her balance, which in turn would lead to her falling less often.

Yay! So many of my favourite authors are updating their stories!

Great to see an update on this. I'm definitely intrigued by what you're doing with Trixie and Maud. I'm guessing they became friends after Trixie got a job working for Maud's parents?

BTW, have you thought about tying in stuff from the movie with Coltlantis?

8718139
They became friends during the previous story, though it wasn't really dwelt on.

And, I still haven't seen the movie at all, and at this rate, probably just won't. Then again, I vaguely remember hearing something about a really neat villain song, and if anything from the movie turns firmly canon, I'll have to see it to understand stuff again. However, even if I do see the movie, no, I've already written out my own version of Coltlantis in this little AU and I'm pretty sure it's too late to integrate anything new now.

Oh dear, the pieces align, the game is set, and white moves first.....let the war begin.

"You can be a bitch," Maud replied without the faintest hint of emotion, "I believe in you."

Couldn't agree more :trollestia:

Nice chapter, as usual. It's good to see this story is still going. I'm in severe need of Shadowbolts. They're my new crack, for some reason.

8718187
Not really a spoiler anymore, but Coltlantis in your verse and in movie aren't even tangentialy related. Don't worry about it. The movie itself is pretty neat, though you'll cringe at some moments.
That said, Tempest is best movie exclusive pony. Then again, Princess Skystar isn't a pony, so there's that.

8719678

I'm in severe need of Shadowbolts. They're my new crack, for some reason.

I haven't reached crack levels yet, but they are incredibly appealing, aren't they? :raritystarry:
To me, they feel like comparatively normal girls when juxtaposed with the vibrant and eccentric main cast, despite the fact that the Shadowbolts are pretty eccentric themselves. Maybe it's just the lack of magic and in-jokes from the main series that make them feel so fresh, like we're looking at real humans rather than the main characters of something, even if the bulk of that has to do with extrapolation by the fanfic writers. The most unusual thing about their setting is the high-end school they go to, which doesn't have to feature in every moment of their lives. If that makes sense.

I'm not sure how much I can say without spoiling something later on down the line, but that is good to know.

Lemon happily accepted her head-pats.

Truly adorable! :raritystarry:

It will be interesting to see what comes of both Trixie's and Diamond's scheming. I've been wanting to see that side of the latter's character again ever since her reformation on the main show.

Aria has seen Disney's The Princess and The Frog, along with most of the animated movies. The villains' behavior may or may not factor into her general approach in getting CP under her control, only she'll be avoiding high places whenever she can help it.

While I often picture Aria as a lone wolf, I can now see her as a power-behind-the-throne vizier type. In the words of Hol Horse: "Better to be Number Two than Number One!"

Applejack pointed at Adagio. "That hair?"

So did Rainbow. "Dat belly?"

And Pinkie. "Dat ass?"

Half the table turned red. "PINKIE!!"

Don't worry, it's Adagio. If anything, she'll be flattered.

This is a fun story. Also, I wonder how Diamond thought it would work, did she REALLY think the plan wouldn't fall apart the moment someone caught wind of it or if Adagio said "No"?

Well Diamond Tiara, maybe if you learned the art of "subtelty " you wouldn't have your plans backfire... again. Worst mastermind ever.

JMP

Looks like Aria's got her work cut out for her. Most of which might be teaching Sonata what sarcasm is.

Same Dazzling time, same Dazzling channel.
