Into the Woods

Far away from the castle, at the edge of the forest, the ponies, dragon and Snow White enjoyed themselves. The sun shines along the sky, despite a few clouds. Twilight, Applejack, Pinkie, Rarity, Rainbow, Spike, Fluttershy and Snow White enjoyed a great picnic, even the huntsman, Humbert, was allowed to join. He wasn’t very hungry but took a few cupcakes Pinkie baked which he found delicious. Applejack couldn’t help but notice something was on the huntsman’s mind. Sometimes she’d ask if there was a problem, but the huntsman answered ‘no’. Still, Applejack felt suspicious around him and kept watch.

After the picnic, the ponies and dragon were ‘chillaxing’ as Rainbow Dash would say, while Fluttershy and Snow White picked wildflowers from a glade near a river. Snow White sang a happy tune, while Fluttershy couldn’t help but sing along. After Snowy met her prince, she couldn’t help but smile every time she thinks of him. Even Fluttershy was happy for her. While the two talked about the prince, Humbert the Huntsman stood by his horse overlooking the princess and her new friends. The ponies didn’t know there were also equines in different worlds. While our heroes chillaxed, Applejack approached Twilight for a conversation.

“Um, Twilight?” She asked.

“Yes, Applejack?” The unicorn/alicorn asked.

"Can ah talk to you privately?”

“Sure.”

The two walked toward a few trees meeting face to face.

“Twilight, ah don’t want to be rude. But don’t you sense anything suspicious on Humbert?”

“What do you mean?”

“I think he’s hiding something he don’t want us to know; I could see on his face something’s troubling him. Ah even asked if there were any troubles in an attempt to help, but he said there was nothing wrong. Ah tell ya, Twi, there’s something not right and it makes me more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!”

“Are you sure you’re not overreacting about Humbert? Sure, he looks gruff, but he seems like a very kind person and sounds like one too. Besides, if Snow White trusts him then so do I."

“Are we sure we should put our trust in a huntsman? Ah mean, what if he’s going to hunt us?”

“When I heard he hunts animals, I wasn’t happy with that and neither was Fluttershy. But according to Snow White he’s a very gentle person. We should at least give him a chance and know him better, don’t you think?”

“Well… Ah guess you’re right. Maybe I’m overreacting a skosh.”

Twilight smiled, satisfied with their agreement.

Eventually, the two turned their attention to Snow White and Fluttershy, who were still picking wildflowers while talking about certain things. Snow White wore a court dress consisting of a dark blue bodice with a high white collar; her short puffy sleeves were a lighter blue color than her bodices and the red cloth poking through exemplified the “slashing” design, which was very fashionable in Tudor times. It involved cutting the cloth on the outside of the outfit and pulling through another layer of cloth underneath. The long, shapeless yellow skirt has a white petticoat and flows down to her ankles with tan pumps decorated with yellow bows. She also wore a brown cape with a red interior. Snow White’s short black hair is styled in a bob and parted in the middle. She also wore a red headband with a bow to complete the look.

“Those two sure know how to amuse themselves,” Applejack remarked. “It’s almost as if they were meant to be close friends.”

“They sure are,” Twilight replied, with a smile.

While Applejack and Twilight conversed, Snow White talked of her life and her interests to Fluttershy. Fluttershy, in turn, spoke of her interests and life in Equestria, even the dangers she and her friends faced.

“Wow, you faced a real manticore?” Snow White asked. “Weren’t you scared?”

“A little,” Fluttershy replied. “But it didn’t stop me to show the poor thing kindness. After calming it down, I saw the reason he was aggressive. A thorn was stuck in his paw, so I pulled it out and he licked me as a sign of gratitude.”

“Your world sounds wonderful; it sounds like we have a lot in common. I’m happy to call you and the others my friends.”

“I’m happy too.”

Snow White sang ‘One Song’ as Fluttershy joined. Suddenly, as they picked wildflowers, they stopped singing when a little bluebird was chirping. The human girl and the pegasus pony laid the flowers on the grass and walked straight to the little bird, which looked like it was crying.

“Hello there,” Snow White greeted.

The baby bird saw them approach and chirped in response.

“What’s the matter?” Snow White asked, scooping the bird in her hands.

“You talk to animals too?” Fluttershy asked, amazed.

“Yes, just like you. Amazing, isn’t it?”

Fluttershy smiled, as they both turned their attention to the little bird again.

“Where’s your mama and papa?” Fluttershy asked.

The bird chirped a little more.

“Why, I believe you’re lost,” Snow White concluded, comforting the bird. “Oh, please don’t cry.”

Neither Snow White nor Fluttershy knew Humbert was watching from a few meters. He looked around to ensure no one was around, as if he planned something awful.

Meanwhile, the baby bird was still crying as Snowy and Flutters tried comforting the bird.

“Come on,” Snow White said. “Perk up.”

“Won’t you smile for us?” Fluttershy asked.

The bird chirped with a small smile. Snow White laughed a little.

“That’s better.”

At that moment, Humbert took his knife from his sheath drawing closer to the human girl and the pony.

Meanwhile, Rainbow was ‘chillaxing’ from the heat of the sun under a tree, a pair of sunglasses on her muzzle. She had placed her hooves behind her head while resting on a branch.

“Ah, I never knew chillaxing in another world would be awesome. I should do this more often.”

Suddenly, she lifted her sunglasses because she saw something strange.

“Is that Humbert? Why is he sneaking up on Snow White and Fluttershy? And what’s that shiny thing in his hand?”

She took a closer look, but her eyes went wide when she saw what Humbert held in his hand. Her pupils became small as pinpricks.

“Oh no! He’s not going to… He wouldn’t… Yes, he would! TWILIGHT!!!”

In a flash, Rainbow flew straight towards Twilight and Applejack, both ponies caught by surprise when their friend appeared in front of them.

“Twilight! AJ! Snow White… Fluttershy… Humbert… HELP!” Rainbow shouted.

Twilight and Applejack faced each other, then back to Rainbow with raised eyebrows.

“Rainbow, I don’t understand a word you’re saying,” Twilight said.

Rainbow growled as she stretched her face.

“Humbert is going to kill Snow White and Fluttershy!” Rainbow shouted.

“WHAT?!” Applejack and Twilight gasp, in unison.

“Ah knew something wasn’t right about him,” Applejack said. “Come on, everypony!”

Applejack galloped as fast as she could, while Twilight and Rainbow ran after her.

Meanwhile, Rarity was lying on her belly on a blanket while Spike massaged her, smearing her back with sunscreen. Rarity was enjoying the feeling.

“A little lower, Spikey-poo,” Rarity requested.

Spike was about to go lower when Applejack suddenly grabbed him. Rarity’s eyes opened but before she could answer, Rainbow scooped her up while Twilight ran after them. A little farther, Pinkie was about to eat a cupcake, when Twilight grabbed her with her magic while running faster. The cupcake, which Pinkie was about to eat, spun in a cartoonish way in mid-air before plopping to the ground.

Three Minutes Earlier

Fluttershy and Snow White were with the baby bird hoping to find the little one’s missing parents.

“Your mama and papa can’t be far,” Fluttershy assured.

“That’s true,” Snow White agreed. “A bird as young as this one, the parents won’t leave it alone for long.”

The bird chirped in response, when Snow White points toward a tree.

“There they are!”

Just when they found the parents, the Huntsman drew closer with frightening eyes.

“Can you fly?” Fluttershy asked.

They didn’t wait long, as the bird flew to the tree.

“Goodbye!” Fluttershy waved.

“Goodbye!” Snow White chimed in.

They just turned around when a shadow walked amongst them. Fluttershy gasped and Snow White began to scream. The huntsman was about to strike, as Snow White covered her face with her arms with Fluttershy clung tight to her friend closing her eyes and screaming for her life. Twilight and her friends just arrived gasping loudly at the sight. As Twilight charged her horn, the Huntsman held his knife high in the air ready to strike. But suddenly, his hand shivered as if he tried to stop himself. The glow on Twilight’s horn faded when she saw him drop the knife to the ground and he barely collapsed.

“I can’t… I can’t do it!” Humbert yelled.

The Huntsman had his hands on his face, hiding the shame and regret. He knelt and grabbed Snow White’s skirt to cover his tearful eyes.

“Forgive me. I beg of Your Highness and milady, forgive me.”

(Pause music at 0:51)

“FORGIVE YOU?!”

The yell caused the Huntsman to stand on his feet, as Rainbow Dash appeared before him. They stood face-to-face; the rage made clear on the Pegasi’s face with her friends not far behind.

“Forgive you?! You were going to murder two of our best friends, two innocent beings, and you beg for forgiveness?!”

“Snow White is a princess, for crying out loud!” Rarity added. “Were you seriously going to kill a harmless princess?! What did she ever do to you?!”

“Was that what you were hiding from us?” Applejack spoke, with a dangerous glare. “You think you could hide an attempt of murder on us?! From me?! You can’t lie to this mare!”

“I thought we could trust you,” Spike said. “I thought you were our friend!”

“To think I was going to give you the last cupcake!” Pinkie added, in a serious tone.

“Miladies, young sir, you don’t understand!” Humbert argued, with regret. “I had to!”

“But why, Humbert?” Twilight asked. “What happened that made you want to do this?”

“There was no other way,” Humbert admits. “I was forced to do this.”

In the midst of it all, Snow White and Fluttershy stood confused with their backs against the wall.

“I don’t understand,” Snow White said.

“She’s mad, jealous of you!” The huntsman explained. “She’ll stop at nothing!”

“But, but who?” Snow White asked.

“The Queen.”

“THE QUEEN?!” Everypony yelled in unison.

(Pause music at 0:57)

“Yes, the Queen is extremely jealous of your beauty, Your Highness,” Humbert explained. “And of you six as well.”

The ponies gasped when Humbert pointed to them, as he placed his hands in front of his face.

“Your personalities might be different, but your beauty is just as radiant as that of Snow White. She wants you gone, that’s why she asked me… To kill you.”

“You know, some ponies or humans never called me ‘beautiful’ before,” Pinkie thought. “But I’m very flattered.”

“Pinkie, darling, this is serious!” Rarity said.

“Oh no, what do we do now?” Fluttershy asked fearfully.

“I don’t know!” Twilight said, panicking. “This is big… Very big!”

“Well you got to think of something!” Rainbow insists. “Our lives, and most of all, the life of Snow White, depends on it!”

“Alright, alright! I’m trying to think!”

As Twilight struggled to find a solution, Spike’s eyes went wide.

“Wait, I got it! What if we make the Queen ‘think’ we’re dead?”

“How are we going to do that?” Applejack asked. “I don’t think the Queen would be stupid to believe it.”

“Your friend is right,” The huntsman agreed. “How can we do that? She wants me to bring her proof.”

“Proof?” Spike asked.

“What kind of proof?” Applejack asked, with a raised eyebrow.

Humbert hesitated to answer, even as the great pain on his face said it all.

“Her… Her heart.”

Rarity let out a gasp, horrified at the notion.

“That’s terrible,” Rarity spoke softly. “What an evil, wicked…”

Before Rarity could finish her sentence, Spike was thinking again when he was struck with an idea.

“Wait a minute! A heart is a heart, right? It could be any heart, like a wild boar’s or pig or something. She wouldn’t see the difference.”

The huntsman considered the plan for a moment.

“That… Could work! That would fool her completely!”

“But then the poor animal will…” Fluttershy shuddered, with sorrowful eyes.

“It’s okay, Fluttershy,” Applejack said softly, comforting Fluttershy.

“Milady, the death of the animal I will hunt shall not be in vain,” Humbert assured. “I promise you.”

“We don’t have a choice, Fluttershy,” Twilight insists. “It will give us time to flee.”

Fluttershy thought for a moment, took a deep breath and sighed realizing there was no other choice.

“Okay.”

“I never wanted to do this,” Humbert pleaded. “Can you forgive me, Your Highness?”

Though still in shock by the turn of events, Snow White could tell the Huntsman’s words rang true.

“I forgive you.”

“We forgive you too,” Fluttershy added. “Thank you.”

“Now, quick children. Run! Run away, hide! In the woods! Anywhere! Never come back! Make sure she doesn’t find you! Now, go! Go! Go!"

Snow White, the ponies and the dragon ran as fast as they could as the Huntsman’s cries faded in the distance.

“Run! Run! Hide!”

The deeper they went into the woods, the darker and scarier it became for the company. They forced their way through vines, much to Rarity’s distaste. They stopped before a tree with glowing yellow eyes, which revealed to be an owl. It screeched loudly causing the group to run a direction as the bird flew away. They ran into a cave where bats flew out. Rarity screamed for her life like the time a vampire fruit bat landed on her face.

Snow White, who was running front, suddenly got caught by branches. She gasped in horror when the branches she saw looked like horrifying hands trying to grab her. That same feeling went through some of the ponies, mostly Rarity and Fluttershy. However, Twilight used her magic to blast the branches off her friends and they ran further.

“Is it me or is this forest getting scarier and scarier?” Spike asked, frightened.

Fluttershy got caught in a bush that resembled hands or claws; fortunately, she managed to get herself free. At some point, they stopped at a tree, which suddenly seem to have a creepy face. Snow White and the girls screamed at this, all of them… Except Pinkie, who was making silly faces while giggling.

“Pinkie!” Twilight yelled. “What are you doing?! RUN!”

“Twilight, don’t you remember the first time we went through the Everfree Forest?” Pinkie reminded. “Come on, guys!”

This particular tree, as strange as it appeared, gave a look of confusion when the pink party planner began to sing.

“When I was a little filly and the sun was going doooooown.”

But the tree only gave a disapproving look and growled at the pink mare. Pinkie stopped singing, not expecting this at all. These trees were not like the ones in the Everfree Forest.

“Um… Maybe the song needs a little boost?”

The tree raised its claw and slammed towards Pinkie. But before it could hit her, Twilight pulled her aside as the branch hit the ground. They ran further in the forest, when they fell into a deep hole near a tree, which looked like a crocodile opening its eye and watching the company’s fall. They all hung tight to a few vines preventing them from falling further.

“Sweet Celestia!” Rarity cried, holding a vine. “This forest is much worse than the Everfree Forest!”

“Hold on, every pony!” Twilight yelled. “You too, Snow White!”

Snow White held the vine tightly, but suddenly the vine snapped with a small crack. Snow White fell toward the water below, the rest falling into the water simultaneously. The waves of the water rocked the floating logs and suddenly they appeared to be giant crocodiles trying to eat them.

“My beautiful hair!” Rarity wailed.

“Seriously, you’re worried about your hair right now?!” Rainbow yelled.

Snow White, Fluttershy and Twilight noticed the crocodile logs and screamed for their lives.

“Let’s get out of here!” Applejack yelled.

The company emerged from the water, only to run smack toward another tree.

“That’s it!” Rainbow shouts. “I’ve had it with all these log crocodiles and evil trees!”

Rainbow charged toward the tree, but it had a mind of its own. It raised its ‘claws’ above its head and a large gust of wind blew from its mouth. The blast forced Rainbow toward the ponies, the dragon and Snow White and they all fell to the ground like bowling pins. Rainbow quickly jumped up and ran in midair.

“RUUUUUN!”

They ran further through the forest, past a swarm of evil trees as leaves brushed behind them. A few bats flew around their heads, as they screamed against the surrounding trees. They all looked menacingly at them, reaching out with their limbs. Twilight fired a few rounds of magic, but there were too many and Twilight was getting tired.

“What do we do now?!” Spike cried, in fear.

More and more trees, each with scary eyes, surrounded the company until it became too much. They all screamed in terror and collapsed toward the ground.
