You have really caught my attention and this has became a great spin off to Dying Embers. I can't wait to find out what happens with this war the Jen has started and how it affects her.
7916420 Thankyou for your interest. The overall goal is to explain her personality issues with authority, quirks and standoff nature. It's one thing to say, 'oh here is this thestral who pranks, irritates and is incredible at certain things.' It becomes more believable when that thestral as been mentally tortured and stressed, trained by unusual individuals, lived through tragedies and ultimately is driven to attempt some very horrible things. Since it is an origin story prior to Dying Embers, you as the audience are aware it turns out alright. I see it as helping bobby put more into his story, which i love, which is why I'm doing this at all.

Great chapter. I was having a hard time finding the translation of coup de gras, because I've seen it and heard it before, but not even my French Idioms book had it which is odd, and google only gave me the direct translation which isn't very helpful so I had to ask my French teacher since I couldn't find it anywhere. But now that I know, good use of it, I must say.
7955628 Thankyou. I take special care with vocabulary to make sure I don't put off the reader with incorrect use or poor grammar. With that said, I am still a beginner writer and writing is tough. That particular term popped up now and then in my fencing career, so I felt safe using it.

Keep in mind the first chapter is transitional to bobbybrony's Dying Embers in chapter 40. What Am I? is only meant to describe Slicer Jen's background story and is not meant to take away from or direct where he chooses Dying Embers to go.
