This story is a sequel to What Shy Did on Her Summer Vacation

And now at last, the world sings again, and so they come to dance.
Ware lest they see, lest they hear, lest they take a chance!
Forgotten once they might have been, yet now they take a stride;
And I fear magics old and new shall very soon collide...

Part of the Oversaturated World. Coverart by jeshannon.

Hmm... I guess this is gonna be on all 4 Seasons of Fae? Reading now!

Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, and then Winter again, perhaps...

***

Water Bond = Friendship ?

Fire Bond = Love / Lust ?

Tree Hugger's shop has the 7 colors of Harmony? Twilight's Violet, Rarity's Purple, Rainbow Dash Blue, Sunset Red? Applejack Orange, Fluttersky Yellow... But Pinkie Pie Green?

Perhaps it's the 7 colors of the Rainbow / Auras / Whatever.

Nice end poem snippet! Piecing them together at the end will be fun!

The pot joke, I didn't get it until my 4th thinking on it?

The trees are trying to warn Fluttershy about the Fae...

Hmm... Applejack and Pinkie Pie are gonna meet them too, if those Flash Fics are any indication... But that still leaves RD, Sunset, Twilight, and Rarity having yet to meet them.

Winter Lights as Fae Princess of Winter... interesting.

Typos:

tiniest ?

whisking as flurry behind her

Grammar error... "like a flurry"?

You've been building up to this for a long time. I look forward to seeing how you bring it all together.

(As for the angst monsters, it's certainly an interesting hypothesis. Wrong, but interesting. Rest assured, I'm working on the story that will bring it to light.)

Look back with newfound wisdom:

Water flows through us all, no matter where we shall go
The greatest hearts can ride the waves and alter fate's very flow
Ware, though, lest ye forget the fickle core of life
And ever find yourself caught in another's strife.

Fire roars and twists and burns, ne'er stopping in its path

Till at last its feed is done and ends its nameless wrath

These pacts be brief, and quickly made, never do otherwise

Lest ye become the very thing your brother now despise.

Well. That's a bit ominous...

For some reason, I find the idea of presenting a can of soda to a Fae King (Oberon?) inherently funny.

Winter Lights looked behind him. "Would these angst monsters appear to have shadowy bodies and bone spurs, by any chance?"
"Oh yeah. Also their eyes glow yellow for some reason, it's really... creepy..."

Sounds Grimm...

Never trust anything with a name composed of "Winter" and some manner of illumination.

Never.

I think my favorite part of this is the 'tall figure' reacting to the underling explaining the world. He's not gawking at the internet. He's not going 'impossibru!' at learning about the moon landings, or about how common aluminum is now. The fey are just like "Alright, here's how they advanced in our absence. What are we going to do about it?" And that fascinates me.

7808190 Pinkie could be Violet, she knows her medium. Her pony cognate can even manipulate it. FoMe did a thing on transcendence, the realization of the true nature of reality. It's name is Adobe Flash.

The colors are not based off the seven characters. They're based off... something else.

I'm keeping an eye on this one--I'll definitely read it once it's finished.

Winter....
TotallyNotgrimm...

So the Faye are returning now that someone's turned the magic back on? Worrysome: they're a clever and subtle sort, or so I've heard...and if they're anything like Discworld Elves, very nasty.

(Summer, fall, winter, spring, summer again...now you have me wondering what an Equestria Girls/Lovecraftian Abominations story might work out as. Teenage Keziah Mason and cutesy Brown Jenkin, no doubt brought to school Angel-bunny style in her backpack? Ow, I think I hurt my brain).

I am glad to see this standalone.

Hmm... Are the colors based on the 7 bonds? And not the rainbow?

So many options...

Wonder if the cover image is gonna represent something important...

(As for the angst monsters, it's certainly an interesting hypothesis. Wrong, but interesting. Rest assured, I'm working on the story that will bring it to light.)

There is a difference between what is believed, what is "true", and what is real. Zepher is no expert, and even the experts can be wrong.

That said, I look forward to learning what the reality of their origins are.

7808712 Chakras? Those are also based off the "seven colors" of the rainbow, though I'm under the impression that's a Western contribution.

lessee...
Earth=Strength. Seems grounded in physicality, hence it being hard to change.
Water=Fate. Easy to change, but messing with it is a two-way street.
Fire=Passion. Pretty good, but too much will mess up a fey, ya?
Air=Life. Power over life and death itself. You have to trust the bond-mate 100%
The next one is Emotion, I think? Hard to pin down what the warning about secrets and truth is about.
Light & Color is a lot harder to understand, especially since it's considered even more dangerous than Air.
The last one is easy: Magic=The Soul=The Mind.

So Winter bonded to him with Water? She changed his very fate and decoupled him from his Icon. This isn't entirely negative since that's mostly a matter or religion in this world, but could be seen as very invasive if he wasn't made aware of what the pact would do.

Theoretically Sunset should just let her off with a warning and let the Fey into the world as long as they abide by a new set of rules. Their binding powers could actually be very helpful given all the various types of magic mucking about.

That said, would a Shimmerist raised into that religion even get a Cutie Mark(they would totes call them that instead of Icons...)?

7813767
The sixth is sound, actually.

7809080

I think they are more like the ones in the Dresden Files. Unless the can provide a fundamental service to the human world (like fighting Outsiders, for example), Sunset should kick them out.

I guess now we use hope that after meeting Sea Breeze (because let's face it, what else could happen?), Sunset starts to figure out what's happening.

She will not be happy.

Mmm... Interesting... More info on Reflections, Spring, Zephyr, Tree Hugger, and others...

... So, how did connecting to the trees get Fluttershy into other worlds? Or is it not the trees but nature or something? ... Could Maud do something similar with stone?? ... Maud and Tree Hugger... Wonder what that'd be like...

"A reflection?"

"Not that ye be only that," he quickly assured her. "Worlds reflect other worlds, tis just the nature of infinity. That ye have a portal to one that is reflectin' off ye, or perhaps the other way round, that just makes things more confusin'.... but easier tae explain."

...

And further down. "Vaaaaaaaaaaaaam." Tree Hugger's brows knotted. "Vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam..."

Zephyr blushed.

"...The water chakra is located near the pelvis," she said flatly. "Get your mind out of the gutter."

"Oh! Well--I, I certainly wasn't--"

"You were. Though... less swiftly then you used to." With a roll of her eyes, Tree Hugger completed her journey. "Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam."

Not at all an airhead, and can retort swiftly when needed! Nice! :rainbowlaugh:

Oh dear. Never gloat where they can hear you, Treezy. That just gives them a chance to respond.

Still, there is definite hope here. Especially if Fluttershy just so happens to mention her new friends...

Eagerly looking forward to more.

Now that's what I call a cliffhanger!

I wonder who Winter's "pet" is?

Also, I'd like to know more of the rules of the Fey Courts at the end of this. Once all the big mysteries have been put aside, some mechanics would be awesome...

7885025
While there are hints of what the rules are, perhaps the most important clue/rules are found here.

7888154
Yeah, I already knew about that. I think of a few of the nodes were a bit too well hidden within the poetry(how the heck is "light and color" actually sound, anyway?). It's more that before the game ends I'd want all of the rules at the rules at least alluded to. (sound, really?)

7883941

I just fixed this world, dammit, and you lot come waltzing in without a word, and mucking everything back up! GET OUT OF MY WORLD!

That is a fantastic title for Starswirl.
The belled sorcerer. Fantastic.

I do love whenever the angst monsters show up. The idea of the rwby stuff in this world makes me cackle with glee. Especially the new names for stuff/people

The most concerning thing in this story so far is how Winter is turning into Salem with ice powers.
That's not gonna be good for anybody.

FEY BREEZE UPDATE YEAAAAAHH!!!

...Indigo?

There is no more perfect a weapon of self-destruction than naked arrogance.

She has no ide what she has invited to court and such neglect will cost her derly.

I swear Seabreeze was not this Scottish in canon.

Oh dear. Is this where Indigo wandered off to. :twilightoops:

No. There was nothing worth fearing from her. Winter Lights was rising, and soon, she would meet her fate.

Thought every tyrant and megalomaniac shortly before getting rekt by the heroes.

And you will find that we can take control of your fates easily enough.

I imagine the fates would have something to say about that. Possibly involving tree sap.

In any case, wonderfully ominous setup. Sorry it took me so long to get everything to a point where you could publish this chapter, but it was certainly worth the wait. Looking forward to Winter getting exactly what she deserves.

My oh my. Would you take a look at this. The fair folk, in it's natural habitat, shortly before their inevitable demise. Tell me, Winter Lights, have you ever heard of the term "Hybris"?

Oh.... It's still not Complete? That's interesting... What's gonna happen next chapter, I wonder...

Fluttershy's ploy. I didn't expect that...

Polymorphs, even when used for good... Are still Polymorphs...

Trophies and Pets are different, true. You don't expect a trophy to do anything other than look nice. A pet, however, you expect to play with and stuff...

"But that doesn't mean I'm going back to doing your laundry, you got it?"

A little bit of levity is good.

Typo:

stockholm syndrome

Usually that's capitalized on both words?

You have to be careful with your words when faeries are involved.

Even and especially when you are the faerie.

Woah. That epilogue! So surprising! So sweet, if the words are truth...

I wonder if this'll tie into Sailor Orbital... How many magics would the Vaucoi have access to now?? Fey, Human, Penta, Equestrian...

Hmm... Vaucoi magic eating interpreted through the Bonds system... I wonder...

Mirilien kuruni
Literally: Glittering witch
Glittering witch (not all insults are creative)

:rainbowlaugh:

Bravo. I totally wasn't expecting Winter's thrall to be Indigo, but once you revealed her name, I nearly slapped myself for not realizing earlier.

DAMN!
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!
THIS IS SOME GOOD SHIT!!!!!! HOLY FUCK FLUTTERSHY THAT WAS A CLEVER FUCKING BARGAIN!!!!!!
10/10 HOT DIGGITY DAMN!!!!!

Fantastic in all senses of the word. Though Cobalt Bolt is not going to be pleased. Still, a great conclusion to this tale. Thank you for it, and for all you've done in making this world work.

8234694
I also noticed it doesn't look like a horse pun.
Also also, should "object" be singular when it appears in Tree Hugger's part?
Also also also, did Fluttershy get anyone or anything into the human world when she sprung her trap? That was a little unclear, at least for me.
*proceeds to last chapter*

although crafty Fay will exploit fey for their own advancement in the fae

This sentence... It's... Good god, Weaver...

What wonder the Fae may be, the Sun shines e'er more brightly.

So Winter Lights is now a Fae that was Fay but is now reduced to Fey due to Baleful Polymorph.

An interesting read. And so much juicy facts for the oversaturated world.

I specially like how, in the end, Winter night have actually felt love for Indigo. That was cute.

Also, what about her father? Has he been recovered? Will it there be more stories of the fae in this world or only snippets?

This was a pretty exciting story, and I'm glad Winter Lights does actually feel some human-like care for Indigo and wasn't just exploiting her. However, the cute little breezies actually being uncomfortable around Equestrian magic is kind of disconcerting.
