This looked interesting from its description, and I wish it had been more of an adventure than the very slice-of-lifey story it is. I like the use of the various species -- I don't think I've seen penguins used as an intelligent race before! Shame about the Irish Gaelic: that's just irritating, especially as most of it isn't translated. Still, points for the world-building.

To note, I wanted to write more of an adventure, but I felt that I didn't have the skills available to write an entire world, slice of live narrative, and adventure within a small amount of words. I'd like to get back to this world at some point, though; arctic adventures are something I see quite a lack of on Fimfic.
I am curious about your comment; what did you find irritating about the Irish? Did you find the fact that it wasn't translated properly by someone who speaks or writes the language, or that you had to translate it to understand it? In previous writings, I've always gone with the 'translate it enough' approach so that if anyone's curious, they can plug it right into Google Translate and understand it perfectly.

I'm not an Irish speaker (I have a little Welsh, but that's not close enough!) so I can't comment on the quality of the translation. But I generally find the use of real-world languages* irritating in an Equestrian setting, partly because I don't enjoy reading whole lines of text I don't understand (especially if they're never translated for the reader) but also because they throw me out of that universe and into our own. I have the same niggle with Meta Four's Alarm Clock, which has one race use a lot of Irish words. I think this may be partly because my background is in the Watership Down fandom, and for the rabbits Richard Adams sprinkled their dialogue with his own invention of Lapine, which I really liked.
There is another reason, though I don't think it's the case with your story. A large number of writers (especially American ones) almost "default" to Irish when they want a foreign language, because it's seen as fashionable. That has the same effect on me as when people do it with Japanese and start referring to "Rainbow-kun" or whatever. This is just a personal preference.
I do like the idea of further frozen adventures, though. The canon map has only "Frozen North", so this (presumably) southern version you could have a lot of freedom. I'll keep an eye on those if any further do appear.
* Well, except English. Things would be rather awkward without that one!

Alright, thanks for clarifying! I'll have to try doing something like that again... Making a language for the stories I wrote as a kid was painful and extremely confusing... But I suppose I can take some liberties.
I tried giving this story a big ol' thumbs up but the Dern thing wouldn't respond. In any case, good slice of life! I enjoyed the world building.
