I'm done. I just don't have fun writing stuff anymore. You're free to take any of this material as your own. Have fun!

There have been recent sightings of an unknown beast around Ponyville. It's believed to have come from the Everfree Forest and appears to be a combination of timber wolf and the Apple family's dog, Winona. But, could it be something more?

I like the story idea, but i don't like how much of a fucking pussy the wolf is to be scared off twice by colorful horses

That's a fair point. I'll make it less of a pussy in the future chapters

7831974 thank you. i just don't get how a wolf, a predator that's supposed to eat stuff like horses, could be afraid of horses... well ponies but i like to call them horses because it can make people giggle every once in a while

Wolves are pack hunters, but this one is alone. That might make a difference.

7832119 it would make a big difference.

ponies are colored like poisonous frogs or poisonous snakes.
wolf instincts know to gtfo.

It's an instinctual response to creatures that show aggression. When any predator attacks an animal they expect it to act like prey, fleeing or attempting to hide but when an animal instead turns and attacks the predator it becomes immediately far more wary. The reason for this is simple, even if you are the top predator taking an injury can be fatal. So backing off and assessing the situation is what most predators will do, they'll back up and size up whatever has confronted them in order to determine if they can still deal with the creature and not be too wounded by it.

Another possibility is that if a creature shows more aggression than normal prey a predator might back off due to the possibility of a particular creature being sick in some way that may possess too much of a risk. Being a predator is all about risk management and they all do this on an instinctual level.

7832119 true, but wolves should still be able to take down ponies that are like fluttershy if she doesn't use the stare, even when alone

7832817 and that is what applejack and sometimes fluttershy are. Aggresive prey animals, i like your level of intelligence

LOOOOTS of hours spent watching nature documentaries.

So many...

Another question to ask would be; Is it a North American wolf or a European wolf? North American wolves are much more skittish than European wolves at least around humans.

The reason for that is that the European wolf has lived alongside humans for so long that it has recognized us as potential prey. Somewhat high risk and dangerous prey but still food.

On the other hand humans are a relatively new addition to North America and the native species of wolves didn't have the same amount of time to prey on us before European settlers relegated the possibility to near nonexistance. In fact you will find that the trend for this species has them avoiding humans probably due to the high numbers killed by angry farmers or those who see them as pests.

I have a feeling it may be a wolf dog. Wolf dogs are timid, some times, and the description of the creature is to resemble a timber wolf and a domestic dog. The canine does have fur, not wood. So crossbreeding may not be far off as mules are concerned.
