The Hearth's Warming story is timeless in Equestria. Every year, the traditions are done and reminders of what hate brings are given and taken. While the story of the first Hearth's Warming is told to every filly and colt in the bright and colorful manner of a stage-play, there is a lot more that isn't said. Before Hearth's Warming, the three tribes had hate between them, but also a reluctant tolerance as they relied on each other to survive. Once the blizzard of the Wendigos began, they blamed each other. This lead to a Great War over racist accusations. This is the story of that war, and the story of one pony in particular that tried to fight for the right thing. The story about his struggles to create peace in a desolate, frozen landscape. This is a story about a War Pony.

Sorry I didn't see your question sooner, but the answer is that the idea of this story is that the way they showed the events Hearthswarming through a stage play in the show, was just that, a childish stage play. This takes those events and tries to tell them through the eyes of somepony living through it, and while yes, the story will end with Hearthswarming and a united Equestria, that doesn't mean everypony lived long enough to see that.
And if you want to know the scale of how bad it gets, my editor once told me; ''You seem to have this talent for taking this thing, getting me to love it, and then violently ripping out my heart and beating it against a tree.''
So if you don't enjoy or cant handle something like that, I would not recommend reading this as you might not last past chapter 4. (If you do enjoy a tragedy, then you will love this.)

Just started reading, and as a hint, in MLP, they’re called Windigoes. Wendigoes are a native American myth/legend.

I was actually aware that wendigoes were the native american legend while writing, but I've never seen an official MLP spelling of this version so I just went with wendigos. Funnily enough I have the characters firstly name them windigoes and I just imagined it that the name would naturally transform into the word wendigos.

Good story, I wonder and fear how you are gonna put the leaders of the three nations in that cave and keep the attention in hopefull, I have a theory that Aurora Is going to be the link but, you tend to put twists on that kind obvious plots, I hope that it didn't come from the left field like with Midnight's betrayal.

This was the ending I've had in mind since begging, I know you've only recently began reading so it may seem very quick to you but it did take two years and there really is nothing past this point that can be covered in the same book. Thank you for commenting so much, I love reading them.
