Why Am I Not an Alicorn?

On a trip back to Equestria, Sunset asks Princess Celestia a question that she has been asking herself since Camp Everfree. How come the human world's version of Twilight is an Alicorn, but she isn't? The answer turns out to be slightly different than she expected.

My headcanon flops between two possibilities. One that Sunset is also an alicorn but is "suppressing" it subconsciously due to her past desires motivating her evil. The other is that neither of them is a proper alicorn, and that Twilight just has bits of Pegasus magic stuck to her from the incident (if this one is true, she really shouldn't go to Equestria because she might become a certain character in Estee's Tryptich.)
