Even now that magic has become commonplace, an unsuccessful business is still an unsuccessful business. But the magical geodes just might give Gloriosa the boost she needs to save Camp Everfree in her own way, much to Timber's dismay.
This fanfic is set in the same world as Oversaturation by FanOfMostEverything. I recommend you read that story before this one, otherwise some references could be confusing.
And then Sunset Shimmer started asking some lawyers how they'd like to help prevent a catastrophe.
Punch 'im in the face! Right in that oversized chin!
She'll be ready, huh? I can think of three different scenarios, the most likely being that she's gonna scare of his guests and buy the land back for cheap. The other options? Well obviously either she "wraps him up nicely" or hentai.
7649775 Gloriosa's not going to let Filthy Rich get to the point where he can have spa guests in Camp Everfree if she can possibly help it. Hentai isn't her style, either. But the wrapping up option is very much on the table.
Is that story status supposed to say "Complete"? It just seems like there's at least a few thousand words' worth of story left to tell, meaning either more chapters or an immediate sequel.
7649818 Yeah, I don't know how much I want to commit to this side story when I still have two other fanfics I need to finish. But maybe I'll find time to write a sequel.
Oh my. This definitely isn't good... though it is always nice to see more people contribute to the Oversaturated World.
I did have something different planned for Timber and Gloriosa, but I'm going to need to think about whether this works better. For now, I'm leaving it in Side Stories, but that may change. If nothing else, you've made me reevaluate some aspects of the earlier plan.
In any case, thank you for this. I'm happy that I was able to inspire you.
7649942 Interesting. Glad I gave you some food for thought.
It's pretty obvious that Gloriosa had a stress-induced psychotic episode; if she hadn't had the Elements so close to hand, she would probably have done something more direct like take an axe to Filthy Rich's car (or Filthy Rich himself). No, one has to wonder how long it will be before her magical outbursts draw Sunset's attention and just how much more destructive it will be. Attack of the Fifty Foot Gaea?
Nice chapter title! And summary. Forgot to say before, but Timber's commentary on being off-the-grid is a nice informative touch!
And added
youthis to the OversaturatedWorld TVTropes page.7651554 Thanks! I figured that adding "Gloriosa's" to the title would give people a better idea of what the story's about at a glance (and also make it easier to turn up in a search result for Gloriosa, since she still has no official tag).
We're all going to die.
This could go either way, really. It remains to be seen which one. Still, good to see Filthy show some business sense beyond the "evil banker" archetype. After all, if people are paying to keep the camp, those same people probably won't want to support his spa.
Yay! It continues! And I guess after this is when Canterlot High makes their entrance, if they do, that is... Agreeing with FOME, nice Filthy Rich!
Perhaps change into, something like "Even after magic became commonplace" and then change the tenses of the rest of the short description to match?
I wonder if Copperworth is gonna be important? ... Filthy's likely to uncover Timber's lie, if he makes a visit to the camp...
7704504 I prefer present tense for the story description, though perhaps I could change the first line to "Even now that magic has become commonplace . . ." I'll give it some thought.
I hadn't planned on using Copperworth after this chapter, but now that you mention it, maybe I could use her for something else later on. We'll see.
You have called upon the Wrath of Murphy we are all doomed
7704444 Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to make Rich completely evil even here.
7704444
We only got to see the one side of Filthy in the movie, and we usually only see his "nice" face in the main show. Perhaps both world's representations of him are accurate? He's a businessman who knows the game, knows how to keep friends, but also knows a bad deal and an opportunity when he sees it.
I have never once seen the word 'weenie' typed like that.
Also, Gloriosa is an idiot.
7722085 According to dictionary.com either is correct. Plus I like the tie to the word's German origin.
Was expecting Magical Mind-Control Drones, but Techno-Flying Drones makes sense too.
... That stuff is tough! EAT FTW!
Nice zinger-thing!
She's not refuting that she's calling it her Precious. ... Not A Good Sign.
***
Yay! Gabby!
Other two families go unnamed...
That's a not a good sign/heartsong. Nice catch, Mr. Gordon!
***
Why was a Rich Corp drone there. ... Hmm... I guess Gloriosa might storm Rich Corp and do the Isolation Treedome there, locking herself in with Filthy Rich. ... And my mind just went into the gutter.
And let's get out of there, and perhaps have Diamond Tiara make an appearance and rescue her dad! ... Nature vs. Tech combat!
Or someone else does the rescuing...
7722097 Huh.
Learn something new every day, I guess.
7722102 Good observations all around.
Oh dear. This has officially gotten out of hand. I dread to see what happens next, but I get the feeling that Sunset's going to find out about this sooner rather than later.
Well. That makes my plans for Camp Everfree rather awkward...
Seriously, depending on where you go with this, you may end up supplanting my original intentions. I kind of hope you do; I love seeing how people build on what I started.
7722562 Wow, thank you! Though there's nothing stopping you from characterizing Timber or Sunset your own way.
Uh oh ... this is going to get nasty quick. Gabby grabbing the drone was awesome ... reminded me of the videos out there of falcons nailing them right out of the sky. Have you seen those? And Gloriosa is seriously losing it ... still, I don't know if I mind her humiliating Filthy Rich, and I'd root for her roughing Spoiled up a little, but I really hope she doesn't get anyone killed.
And I wouldn't mind having some of that Earth aspect magitek myself ... I'm rough on things.
7722085 in her defense, she never liked Filthy Rich to begin with, and she's hopped-up on stolen magic. Sunset can handle her.
7723154 Yeah, those videos gave me the inspiration for the drone-grabbing.
7724564 Cool ... I kinda wondered if they had. And honestly, if you hadn't gone there, I probably would have, only with Pegasi bucking them out of the air.
And the Filthy Rich and Gloriosa encounter happens!
Interesting thing with Spoiled Rich! Willing to kill to defend her husband! Good for her? I can't tell if she's better than her Equestrian analogue, but I can hope...
Sunset doesn't, then does get the geodes! ... Cliffhanger... I wonder if Gloriosa's gonna wake up in a hospital or something.
7739211 With Spoiled Rich, one must contrast environment. The Equestrian version aspires to high standing in social circles, but is an earth pony trying to make waves in a part of the social dynamic traditionally dominated by unicorns. She's the wife of the Wal-Mart guy in a world of princes and living gods.
By contrast, the human world version has grown up in, and is still living in a world dominated by corporations. One could easily form the idea that, without an entire echelon of society quite clearly keeping her down and pressuring her into even more cut-throat tactics and personality traits, Spoiled Rich would have grown into a comparatively kinder person once she entered the 1%.
Or maybe the human Filthy Rich is just better in bed. I don't know.
7739265
Oooh! Nice analysis! ... That seems like one of the longest comments I've seen from you. Mmm...
7739276 It's probably one of my shortest long-form comments.
7739211
7739265 Spoiled Rich isn't nice, but she does love her husband, at least in this story, so she's willing to kill to protect him.
Yeah, if you're going to challenge someone on Sunset's level, it's best to have a strategy beyond "Use Vine Whip!" Otherwise...
Well, I suppose we'll be finding out what "otherwise" entails soon enough.
I'm liking this alternate take on new cannon.
However, the internet has ruined me to the point where I briefly thought that the title suggested some sort of macro fetish fic.
Well, if you're gonna spawn an AU, the small differences make sense. Else, you got the Riches' butler's name wrong. It's Randolph, not Randall.
Seems a bit underwhelming...
A bit too much exposition and wordiness for a girl who you just blasted with Harmony and trying to work through their issues?
Other than those bits, this is pretty good?
Mr Gordon's priorities are funny!
7755551
Huh. I could've sworn DT was saying Randall in "Twilight Time."
She does say more later, though. Does that help?
I guess this is the result of trying to participate in NaNoWriMo while updating quickly. I should probably revisit this whole story in a week or so and see how I can improve it.
7755594
If you mean this, then yeah, I think it does?
***
If you do, I'll give it a re-read.
Hmm...
I'm going to have to think about this. Mostly because I hesitate to introduce the geode pendants on top of everything else. Still, a satisfying conclusion. I suppose Sunset's attack was Fire-type?
7757169 I can understand that.
Points for "Jewelry Master", but I can't get past the dialogue to want to read more of this. :/
8825812
What's the issue with the dialog? Too much exposition?
8825843
That, a lot of it sounds unnatural, plus I just can't get behind Gloriosa having such instant and deep understanding of every facet of how her magic works.
8825909
Yeah, I can see that. Gloriosa was making assumptions about how her magic worked and presenting them as fact, but I should have made that more clear.
But what about prehistoric insects as they pretty big.
So a more limited beast Boy/Changeling (beast boy’s original name, not the mlp species.)
Quake
Emma Frost
And technically Marvel’s Spot...
...Really Timber? Know you nothing of the ways of comedy? Nothing?!
I was surprised by Filthy Rich’s proposition. Here's to hoping everyone gets to walk away happy.
'You just got on to Timber for that sort of talk.'
'No, I acknowledged a possible good outcome, I didn't assume everything would be perfect.'
right
7757169
...OK, I’m starting to see that my reasoning with you isn’t working or going to go anywhere with you, so let’s just forget this and move on.
