Sunset's shock over Twilight using powers is strange to me, because they got magic powers by being within the same general area as the gems. I'd say that cave was maybe close to a mile from the camp and they all could use powers.

Still, fantastic story.

Combine the anxiety that comes from overthinking everything with a traumatic first experience with magic, and it's no wonder Twilight's afraid of what might be in store. Still, knowing the perils of the genre means she can avoid them, and she's anything but alone in the struggle. It takes a while for any instance of Twilight Sparkle to process that she has friends, and that those friends are there for her during the tough times. This one isn't quite there yet, but she will be. It may take some more Platonic cuddling before she gets to that point, but they have time.

Hopefully.

In any case, lovely piece.

"It's fine, Twilight, can't you see those letters in the corner? TV Y-7. Nothing really horrible is going to happen."

Why isn't the chapter called "Comes Great Responsibility"? You didn't finish the line! Ah, well, it was good enough that that doesn't really matter. Snuggles yay!

“Sunset, I…” Her back as rigid as a rod, Twilight took a deep breath and planted her feet firmly together. “I appreciate your invitation and I think you’re very attractive yes but I’m not entirely comfortable with doing that with you and I think I maybe sort of already have a boyfriend so—”
“I’m not asking you to have my babies, Twi. Just c’mere.”

:rainbowlaugh:

Sunset opened her mouth, but looking into Twilight’s eyes, all her words turned to slush. She sputtered a few times, trying desperately to remember what her plan had been—Was I supposed to kiss her? No, right?—but could only muster up a tiny, “Hey.”

“Hey?” Twilight said. She shuffled around a bit, still occasionally sniffling. “Sunset, this is nice and all, but is there a reason we’re...?”

Has she always smelled like strawberries?

“Uh.” Sunset blinked hard a few times, putting her thoughts back in order

I think Sunset's developing a crush on Twilight. :trixieshiftright:

At least, until she heard the sound of Rainbow and Pinkie giggling in the doorway, followed by the snap of a camera phone.

Perfect photo opportunity! :trollestia:

MJP

my question is: when did their outfits return to normal

Wonderful!
Though, the fact that "Gaia" is from the Greek mythology, the fact that the title is "with great power" , AND with the special fact that I am kinda obsessed with Rick Riordan books... I'll be saying this quote;

"With great power comes great desire to take a nap"

Ignore this if it confuses you... I'm just fangirling about my other fandoms..

Like I said, great story :heart:
Keep on being awesome!:rainbowdetermined2:

With Great Power...

...comes Spiderman to tell you off for stealing his dead uncle's line.

“I know how this goes. Superheroes show up, and supervillains arrive to torment them. This is just the beginning.”

“You’re making it sound like we’re in a comic book.”

“We might as well be!” Twilight said, throwing up her hands. “The sirens, Midnight Sparkle, Gaia Everfree. They’ve all showed up after the rest of you ponied up for the first time, right?”

... So in other words...

Rarity: In the 3 months since Twilight transformed herself into Midnight Sparkle, the number of known enhanced persons has grown exponentially. And during the same period, a number of potentially world-ending events has risen at a commensurable rate.

Sunset: Are you saying it's our fault?

Rarity: I'm saying there may be a causality. Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict... breeds catastrophe. Oversight... Oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand.

....

TEAM SCITWI VS TEAM SUNSET

WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?

This fic captures excellently the feeling of the late night friendtervention in an anxiety spiral, and for that I applaud you.

Just because you say it's platonic doesn't stop people from throwing this log into the bonfire that is the Sunlight ship.

7682701 Well, if Sunset in this version has a crush on Princess Twi, then SciTwi might just upset the apple cart more than she realized it would. SciTwi being in a fledgling relationship with Timber Spruce would put any hinky business out of reach, but might make the unicorn girl think about the Princess a bit more...

This is an amazing fanfiction! I love the emotion shifts throughout this, and the descriptions of the girls just being teenagers. It's interesting to think that way; most heroes don't ever stop and think about their new life at all. And seeing Twilight deal with this was deep and real. The fanfic also made me a captain of the Sunlight ship. :twilightblush:

You're not the only PJO fan here!:pinkiehappy:

I love that the story covers an often-missed detail about Sunset. She's only been a human for a handful of years. Most of her life was as a pony, and sometimes that ambushes her when she's not paying attention. Like reading a farming advert about 50% off hay bales and getting hungry.

Even with superpowers, she swore that she was more normal than ninety-nine percent of the planet.

Ooh, half-off on bales of hay! Sunset thought as she passed an ad for a local farm. Her stomach grumbled. I should check that out when I get back…

Best line :rainbowlaugh:

Also: Sunset, there's one really easy way to deal with this: tell the other Twilight to loan you her assistant for a while. Or have him tutor his alternate- he's probably got enough experience dealing with her freakouts to handle it, easy.

Darn superheroes/teenagers/stubborn people think they don't need to go see a professional... even when they clearly have general anxiety and ptsd :fluttercry:

7684063 Team Sunset. Sorry, Twilight.

This is totally deserving of a continuation! Well done!

“You’re making it sound like we’re in a comic book.”

Technically you are.

Wow, that was way more depressing than I expected, and it didn't even really get resolved in the story, either. Personally, I think it was mainly the fear of turning back into Midnight Sparkle that made Twilight reject the magic, as well as thinking that she was somehow responsible for spreading it to her friends. Twilight having such strong negative feelings about it even after the end of the movie seems rather excessive.

Yeah, it was pretty depressing, even more so because Twilight makes some good points. If you look at the situation as though it were closer to reality than a cartoon for little girls, then things get a bit worrisome. They're already practically disaster magnets, but once word spreads about their abilities, bad people looking to steal them for themselves will inevitably come out of the woodwork. If their enemies were smart, they would do some of things Twilight mentioned. They'd take hostages, separate them, exploit any weakness they could find. Honestly, Twilight has every right to be scared. :fluttershysad:

This turned out more dark (depressing) I thought it would be, Great story

P.S.

I think I have a serious problem.
Yes girl, you should have kissed her.
So little time, so much Sunlight...

We have witnessed some strong sunlight today!

Everything about this, is amazing. I love it.
