One thousand years ago, a great tragedy befell the citizens of Equestria. Time, however, has a way of obscuring history, sometimes burying the truth beneath the well-worn sands of centuries. This is the tale of one Captain Shadow Noctis, commander of Princess Luna's Nocturnal Guard, and the harrowing personal conflicts he faced in those dark times. When you lose the one you cherish most in life, the one you swore to protect, what do you have left?

Thanks Gus! I had this idea floating in my head for some time now, and finally put pen to paper. Glad you liked it! I'll probably do something a little more light-hearted next time XD

Powerful and thought-provoking, I'm glad I took the time to read this. :fluttercry::heart:

:fluttercry: Well this was an excellent little piece, a sad one, but still excellent. An interesting take on the who Luna into Nightmare Moon. A nice addition also was the nocturnal guard, which we only got to see in one episode. So it was fun to see someone else's ideas on them. I was kinda expecting more dialogue between Shadow and Celestia. However, I did think after reading that it was one of those moments where there were no words to be said. A good, short, sweet, and sad piece. :fluttercry: :applecry: :raritycry:

This is probably the saddest thing I've ever read, but it is also one of the most beautiful. I could never imagine going through something like that. Job well done. Luna Nos Custodit.

This was a great short read.

But... I want to know how Luna reacts when she's reading the letter Shadow left for her...

I have only one thing to say to this story :fluttercry::raritycry::raritycry:

Hmmm, this is not a bad idea!

I think I might expound on that in a short addendum.

I'd like to thank you all for the feedback! This was my first attempt at a FanFic and it seems it didn't do too badly. I look forward to writing some more, perhaps with less feels and more funny. :derpytongue2:
