Is this just more Adagibuse? Because that seems to be the golden rule for sirens fics; fish swim, birds fly, and Adagio gets the worst treatment of any of the sirens, perhaps of anyone in the story, and it got old for me a LONG time ago.

7567891 I'm still adding some proper tags and such. I was just trying to focus on getting the story approved, but thanks for pointing that out! :raritywink:

7567868 I'm glad you like it! I had fun writing it! :pinkiehappy:

7567911 I'm with you, the whole Adagio abuse thing does get old after awhile, but I write as ideas pop in my head, most of the time. In this tidbit, Adagio just so happened to be the unfortunate target that my mind picked. Although, if it's any consolation, I don't plan (and I use that word loosely) on having the rest of the story head in that direction.

I don't know if it's ever planned, per se, but that's what happens pretty much every time. If I could offer my hope of avoiding similar cliches, Sunset always winning her conflicts (as she does two chapters in a row here...) and Sonata getting the best of every situation are pretty old too. I don't want to tell anyone what to write, but I can tell you what I've seen too many damn times to not just walk away at this point. :applejackunsure:

7567950 No, totally get it. In a lot of stories, or at least the ones that I've read, Sunset does almost always come out on top. Even in my stories as you pointed out. It's not that I necessarily try to make it that way, it's just that even when I try to paint a character in a different light, there's always that subconscious, original perception that I have of them, that ultimately shows in my writing.

As far as the pattern with Adagio goes, I think that her personality makes her an easy target for abuse if that makes any sense.

(laughing) She said duty.

As far as the pattern with Adagio goes, I think that her personality makes her an easy target for abuse if that makes any sense.

It kind of depends on how their personalities are interpreted. Here in the restaurant, Adagio is selfish and impatient, whereas she's much more willing to wait for things to play out in her favor in Rainbow Rocks, but if you interpret her as being too haughty to wait in line, it sort of fits. That in mind, however, I'd think Aria (a grouch who constantly starts arguments) and Sonata (a ditz who doesn't think before she speaks/acts) would be more prone to misfortune, but the latter is typically protected by invisible shields of some sort. Same goes for Sunset, whose short temper can easily get her in trouble, but never really seems to in fanfics.

From what you've told me, this isn't due to just be more tormenting Adagio, and I'd like to see things play out differently for a change, but even if it doesn't, I'm sure someone else will enjoy it as is.

In some cases, yes, usually through uncharacteristic stupidity/vanity/cruelty that wouldn't have been out of place from the old Sunset Shimmer, but doesn't really sync up with who we saw in Rainbow Rocks. Other times, it feels like she's practically being punished just for existing, whereas Sonata (and sometimes Aria, who ends up closer to the Adagio side of that spectrum just as often) gets off scot-free pretty much no matter what.

7568213 I understand where you're coming from that certain characters are portrayed as being or behaving differently than from what we saw in the movie, but at the same time, I think that if everyone portrayed the characters the same way as in the movie, every story would be the same.

Also, to be clear, in the story Adagio is impatient because she's hungry, not because she's an overall impatient person.

I think that if everyone portrayed the characters the same way as in the movie, every story would be the same.

Yes, and it's because of that that I long ago grew tired of Adagio being a bitch whose only purpose in a story is to be punished while the others are mainly there to laugh at her, as appeared to be the case here. Quite a lot of these stories are all the same, that is the basis of my annoyance on this subject, so I'm sorry if I've jumped to conclusions, but Aria even flat-out offering her a card for 'Abused Anonymous' was a BIG red flag for me. :applejackunsure:

Still, as long as this isn't just going to be more of the same old thing, I'm interested to see where this goes.

7568302 Yeah, I think you jumped to conclusions just a little bit. The way you're seeing Adagio right now is just one chapter, but like I said, I get it. To be fair, though, I think I portrayed Adagio just a little differently in Sonata Gets A Puppy.

Also, this has been a very interesting topic and I hope that I can keep your interest as the story progresses :pinkiesad2:

Intriguing concept. I'm definitely interested in seeing where you take this, though I must admit it would probably be even more enticing if it wasn't Sunset all the time, as it would be nice to see how the other Rainbooms handle the Sirens. Also, while I would agree with a lot of what Eyeswirl had to say, your depiction of the Sirens seems to be fairly reasonable so far. I'm personally fond of the stories where they do ultimately care about each other, but the bickering makes for good comedy. Keep up the good work! :pinkiehappy:

... How old was that lady, again? Cause three times the Sirens age is... really freaking old.

Sorry Adagio but I have to say that you brought all of this (including the mockery from the Peanut Gallery) entirely on yourself!

Wow this story was hilarious! I loved the scene with Rainbow Dash and Sunset, and Adagio got what she deserved.

Sunset couldn’t help but giggle. She had never seen a hangry Adagio before

Hangry is a new word combined from hungry and angry? :pinkiehappy:

In RR Adagio is calm and mature and Aria and Sonata also have some level of matureness with a bit of silly side. In this story Adagio behaves like a small brat and Aria and Sonata like they just came from kindergarden.

7576918 Yeah, you know, we all get hangry every once in awhile.

Mismatched characterization continues as Adagio is the out-of-control temper and Aria is the voice of reason. :applejackunsure:

This is so sweet...
I can really see Aria saying something like this...

…he didn’t invent that…he definitely didn’t invent that.

They went to jail before?

Also I think Adagio's got Dom/Sub syndrome: She likes taking orders but truthfully she wants to be ordered around like a puppy.

They figured it was kind of pointless to go into any fast-food restaurant that didn’t have a playroom

This, right here, is the truest thing I've ever read. Give me a giant goddamn swirly slide or give me death.

“C’mon, Dashie, I thought you-MMPH!” Sunset’s eyes widened as she felt Rainbow Dash’s lips firmly planted against her own. Sunset quickly pulled away, releasing her victim in the process.

The two girls stared at each other in stunned, awkward silence.

“What…the HELL…was that…?” Sunset asked in utter disbelief.

“I, uh, I-”

“I PANICKED!!” Rainbow Dash shouted back. “And stop yelling before someone hears you!” She looked around, hoping that no one saw what had just transpired.

She totally did that on purpose.

Hey Adagio! You know what that's called? Comeuppance. :rainbowlaugh:

So, I’ve come to to be the voice of reason.

Okay, I did not expect that. Guess Aria's not all rude sarcasm.

Aria chuckled at a thought that popped in her head. “Hey, can you imagine the how much more chaos we could’ve caused if Discord got banished with us.”

“I don’t think this world would have survived.” Adagio giggled.

“I miss that old goat-face.” Aria smiled.

*Discord appears out of nowhere* My ears are burning!

Well, it's not badly written, but that's four chapters in a row of nothing I liked enough to stick around for. Someone knocking Sunset off her high-horse (no pun intended) for once was nice, but the rest has me feeling lukewarm at absolute best.

I said I'd stick around to find out if this story kept my interest, and it just hasn't. Sorry. :applejackunsure:

Happy writing, though! :pinkiehappy:

7671726 That's perfectly fine. Sorry that you don't like it, but for this story...this is just how I'm choosing to portray these characters. Some stories just aren't for everyone.

No story is for everyone, this one just isn't for me.

7671776 Like I said, that's perfectly fine. Who knows, maybe some day one will be.

Sundagio getting along by tell Aria's embarrassing stories, including the flashing incident.

things are going well now. :twilightsheepish:
I liked the chapter.
good work buddy. :raritywink:

And whoa Sonata made some things that my brother had already did to me...

Ah, I remember this game. Loved it.

wait, I tought Sunset had the nine of diamond ?

7675679 Yeah, I haven't played in awhile, so it was nice to play last night. :pinkiehappy:

7675739 Oops, typo. Haha, so I guess Adagio lost? :rainbowlaugh:

I'll have to fix that :trixieshiftright:

Any chance they had a bet where the loser has to do something for the winner?

7675784 perhaps...:trixieshiftright:
I thought about it, but I'm not sure if that's something I'll work into the next chapter or not.

Aria played a 5, then Sunset plays a 7? I think either a turn or a number was skipped...

Or maybe add it to the next chapter that Dagi swiped it from Sunset? Would be funny.

7676287 That would be funny haha, id really have to think about how that would happen though. :rainbowhuh:
