From what I gathered, they used weapons from both ancient time and relatively modern time like guns with mechanical vehicles as transportation....
Put into fav because of the new approach. Instead of already conquered Equestria (which shouldn't be possible in the first place), this is an on-going war.
And the name like "Dead Ones" implied they were once a powerful civilization but fallen for whatever reason and now became nomadic.
Most interesting. Continue. This has the smell of something epic, I'd bet my money on it.

You sir are a Genius, this could be why Lyra is so into Humans, also this way Humans would be around to help the Ponies while killing off the Caribou Bastards and making sure that no mare in Equestria is ever enslaved by the Caribou. I do hope you make a sequel to this story, maybe even have it where Lyra tells Twilight about the Humans where she meets Twilight while they are still young fillies.

By the Gore Dark, and Horror tags, along with the story picture, i had assumed by The Dead Ones, said humans would be literally dead.
Like; in the middle of the Caribou pillaging a village, they are interrupted by several-to-a-dozen or so Zombies stumbling out of the woods, and the victims of the raiders taking the opportunity to escape while their attackers are being eaten alive.
To be honest I think that the ponies think the humans have no civilization because either
A. They are purposefully hiding their civility in favor of appearing more dangerous. Because without magic they wouldn't stand a chance against anyone who could. So they appear incredibly bloodthirsty and scare away any threats. This is supported by the long range gunfire, a sign of advanced tech ergo civilization, where their typical soldiers are out of sight and the for show/CQC soldiers up front in costume. Another thing is that they never speak, they just yell, you can tell the warrior wants to say stuff, comfort Lyra and her mom but is under orders to not speak in public.
B. When they say Canibalistic they mean we kill and eat animals, pigs, deer, Carribu and cows and apply that to eating everything OR they saw a group fight and take the bodies away to be buried and assumed we ate them.
This reminds me alot of a Humanity Fuck Yeah story and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Yep, there are dozens of these tribes all over the world, the vast majority of them reside in the badlands however. The next story will explain plenty about where they all are, not exact locations, but the general area in which they reside. And yeah, they have their own tech levels, as well as stuff scrounged from other tribes.
