Smooth Sailing?

Thorax flew as fast as his wings could carry him. His flight was filled with joy and determination. He wanted to talk about his experience in the Crystal Empire, with his own kind.

Thorax smiled as he reminisced about his new friendships in the Crystal Kingdom. Something he did not think was ever possible. It was all thanks to Spike his friend that it all worked out. He made it to the front of the hive. It was a cave that was filled with green goop, there were cocoons and over the ceiling . One part had a thick green wall separating the rest of the hive.

In the hive, there were changelings swarming all over out of desperation.

"All that love, it's so close, yet we can't go there"

"So hungry"

"I can't take it!" A changeling tried to fly out of the hive, but he was held back by the other changelings.

"If you go there, they will shoot us from the sky! Or use you to find our hive"

Thorax entered inside he was beaming with joy, which caused jealousy in the other changelings.

All the changelings surrounded him and hissed at him with anger.

"Thorax! Where'd you get your fill?!" One changeling hissed at him

"Yeah, and how? You were always the soft one of the group" another one asked

"Hey, hey calm down" responded Thorax "Listen I got something to tell you"

So Thorax explained everything that happened that day.

"You saw the baby?"

"You made friends?"

Although friendship was something mostly foreign to them. Thorax wondered if his kind could even grasp it. Considering that most changelings were not friends but just worked side by side. But Thorax saw the genuine interest so he knew there was hope.

"You see every changeling, ponies can accept us. We don't have to hide here anymore." said Thorax

"We don't have to scavenge for food, ponies are willing to give us their friendship, which does sustain us" he continued

"But..." one changeling objected "You said you were betrayed by this 'Spike' what's stopping the others from doing that?"

"I..." Thorax started feeling a bit sad

"Yeah, and what if some ponies decide to never give us a chance"

"What if..."

"Listen!" Thorax shouted "Princess Cadence, and Prince Shining Armor gave me a chance, even though they were the most affected by our attack"

"I'm sure other ponies will as well."

There was nothing but silence for awhile

"Wait! The Queen told us to hunt ponies, not to be friends! Are you going against our Queen?!"

Thorax ears flatten, he has been against Queen Chrysalis actions for the longest time. He hated following her evil orders.

However, he knew that loyalty rans deep in the changeling kind, just like ponies' loyalty to the Princesses run deep.

That and he understood why they had to do such acts. They needed food to survive.

"Well um, maybe we should talk to the Queen about this...I'm..sure that she'll understand." Thorax said nervously,

But although a part of him knew it was not going to work, he was optimistic about it.

'I mean if there is an easier way for us to get nourishment, what reason could the Queen need to attack ponies?' Thorax thought

"Is the Queen in the nursery?" Thorax asked

One of the changelings nodded

Thorax knocked on the thick wall separating the hive. He shook in fear and said "Umm.. Queen...I..um" He was then quickly interrupted by a glowing of the wall than it separating. Queen Chrysalis came out and the wall become whole behind her.

Every one of the changelings bowed down to her.

Thorax was about to open his mouth

"Don't bother Thorax, I heard everything. Just because that wall is thick.." Chrysalis pointed at the wall behind her with her eyes "Doesn't mean I can't hear in there" Chrysalis said

"So then you heard my whole story? Great! that means.."

Queen Chrysalis let out a wicked laugh "We'll be friends with those ponies"

"You're so naive" Chrysalis demeaningly said

"But.."

"You think I wanted to invade the Crystal Kingdom just for food?"

"If that was all I wanted Thorax, all I would have to do, was to go to Cadence and tell her about the situation. She would give us all the love we could ever want"

"You see Thorax ponies are weak so it's much easier for us, to rule over them"

"Besides emotions taste much better if you take it by force. Once you had a taste of it, you can never go back"

Thorax gasped "You mean, you made us hunt ponies just for taste?!"

Chrysalis completely ignored his statement and went on

"Thorax, do you know how long it takes a friendship to bloom?"

No response

"A long time, do you really think you can fight off your instinct for long?"

"Well, I ... um I mean I was shown Flurry Heart, love surrounded her. It was irresistible but I held myself back"

Queen Chrysalis stared at him, Thorax's eyes widened as he saw the cold cruelty in her eyes.

"You didn't really plan this, did you?" Chrysalis stepped forward which caused him to step back.

"Sure it worked out now but what happens if it doesn't?"

"What happens if you take too much nourishment from somepony, and it causes them to not be friends with you?"

"That's not.." Thorax tried to say

"What happens, when you drain too much from your friend Spike. That you kill him"

For a moment Thorax thought he saw something flash in her merciless eyes, but dismissed it.

"I ...I will not be alone, my new friends will help me...you will see!"

"I'm leaving Chrysalis, I don't want to conquer them, we can work to coexist with each other" Thorax bravely said

"Whose with me?"

One changeling that was hanging in the back step forward. "Kevin?" Thorax asked in shock.

"Being friends with ponies can't be that difficult. After all, I made friends with a donkey named Cranky"

"And I was invited to his wedding. I'm joining you Thorax." Kevin said

A small group went towards Thorax agreeing to try this new idea.

"Let's go every changeling to start anew"

With that Thorax and a small group left the hive.

The other changeling stood there with the Queen, to disobey was high treachery and they were satisfied to stay they way they were .

"Queen Chrysalis should we go after them?" said one of the changelings

Queen Chrysalis said nothing and went back into the nursery.

7510937 While it might sound nice, there is a reason changelings feed on love. And that feeding can't be nice if it caused Thorax to go feral at the mere scent of it. We still have no idea how they feed or if it's damaging to ponies.

The part about Kevin being friends with Cranky is a nice thought too, but I like to think he just snuck in to sample some love. Just because Cranky made friends with a stylish river serpent, him being friends with a changeling too seems unlikely just because he was there.

Where there's love in the air, a changeling shall be near.

I read this after seeing that you'd written a Thorax returning to the hive story like mine. :)

Here's some unsolicited (though free) advice:
* It has a few editing errors - the most glaring one was breaking paragraphs with the same character's speech - you really want to keep those together.
* You used "whose" instead of "who's"=who is
* Also, there were a few moments where I felt like you were over-explaining. There's this quote I love where an author essentially says 'I leave out the parts that people would skip over if they were reading it.' We all know how Thorax feels about the queen - it doesn't need to be explicitly stated. We don't really need to know why Chrysalis overheard the conversation - it's enough to say "I heard."

7524276 thanks the advise. I try but I tend to make stupid alittle mistakes like that. I have Grammary a lot I would it's a lot better because, for in the story You're not alone it was bad before someone looked at it. As for the overexpliationzied I try to tone it down. I guess is me coming out, because I tend to like put more details so the story so it can be more visual.
