This story is a sequel to Wondercolts Adventures: Beautiful

Sugarcoat has been monitoring the human world's Sunset Shimmer for a while now, and she has finally found an avenue in which to learn more about her. But in order to take advantage of it, she may have to become something she doesn't want to be.

Whatever path she chooses, will she end up plunging in way over her head?

I think it is safe to say you are my fav writer on this site dragon. Keep up the good work

I didn't think you liked me all that much.

Well, they seem to have at least one hobby in common:
derpicdn.net/img/view/2015/9/28/990105__safe_rainbow+dash_equestria+girls_meme_screencap_image+macro_sunset+shimmer_spoiler-colon-friendship+games_friendship+games_sugarcoat.png

"I was just heading out to do some unwinding. You can come clubbing with me if you want." Indigo moved around to the driver's seat of her car. "Who knows? You may even find a boy who can make you less lonely."

"I don't know..." Sugarcoat rubbed her chin. "Where are we going to find baby seals in this town?"

Damn, I'm Sugarcoat. Once Indigo mentioned clubbing, I immediately thought of baby seals.

"That pun makes me want to just go home." Sugarcoat grimaced.

Revenge of the baby seals. Remember, you started it.

Flash, don't do that. On a side note, my first thought when he mentioned the guitar was "he's really desperate" and then Sugarcoat said just that (as a guitar player myself: you don't say you play guitar, unless you just happen to have one with you).

On further inspection, each seemed to house an activity that could also interest high school students. There were rooms for arcade machines, card games, board games, karaoke (which thankfully seemed to be soundproofed, from the silence), and two rooms for bathrooms, which likely saw as much use as privacy chambers as they did bodily functions, judging from some of the sounds coming from inside one of them.

Well, I guess the sounds of bodily functions would be more unpleasant in such a situation (weird that someone soundproofs the karaoke, but doesn't do the same with the toilets, though). Also, now I wonder if they have fight club in there.

Sugarcoat smirked. "Not really, I don't believe in fortune tellers, especially ones who lay it on so thick. You look like you stepped out of a cartoon."

Call the agents! She knows!

On a side note, while Zecora indeed rhymes here, she does not always fit the rhythm. Like, "Your mind is as sharp as your tongue is quick, but I assure you that while most of this is fashion quite slick" the first part has 10 syllables, but the second has 15, so it kinda falls on its face, figuratively speaking.

She was just going to ramble about Sugarcoat's love life, wasn't she?

Not like there's a lot to ramble about...

How could one choice change a person's heart entirely?

Well, when you choose whether or not to have a heart surgery...

"I'm not into chicks. We're friends."

Well, you danced, you gave her your phone number... No wonder Indigo is making assumptions.

"I counter that question by refusing to come up with an answer."

Then Indigo buys Sugarcoat a Mythbusters "I reject your reality and substitute it with my own" t-shirt.

Also, now I'm thinking that Night Glider and human Sunset are in a cult. Maybe because pony Night Glider kinda was in one, but who knows.

kul

Spill the beans Sugarcoat! Be the truthwoman we all once know and love! Your friends safety and security depends on this girl! Dont get eaten by your ego! The truth will prevail, so why bother saving it for later when it would hurt more?

7500232

If Night Glider's talking equality, then that might mean there's a Starlight Glimmer somewhere in her life, helping run the cult.

7500282
I suddenly imagined Starlight as The Leader from 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami.

I knew you were planing something with sugarcoat an love ^^ though lesbian? Maybe I was thrown off for a bit since I never saw that hinted at with sugarcoat (or I may hae missed it) and maybe because I was thinking you wouldn't go the lesbian route wth your fics more than you had to to break the mold. Still, I do like this setup, even if a part of me wished it was a guy (though the bit with flash made me crack up :rainbowlaugh:) I eager to see where this part of your series goes

Is it just me or does this version of Sugarcoat remind me a lot of Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes?

7500447

I was actually thinking the other day that she has slowly morphed into Daria Morgandorfer. But everyone has their own impressions of the characters.

7500480 Wait, who is 'Daria Morgandorfer' exactly?

So. Human!Sunset is linked to Human!Starlight. This can only lead to bad things

I hope she chooses the right choice of not toying with her heart like this.

Starlight as well as Sunset? Hoo boy....

Sugarcoat leading Night Glider on for the greater good (THE GREATER GOOD)? More hoo boy....

Gonna be a long week.

"I was just heading out to do some unwinding. You can come clubbing with me if you want."

"I don't know..." Sugarcoat rubbed her chin. "Where are we going to find baby seals in this town?"

:facehoof: BAD, Sugarcoat, BAD!

"Are they worth running into?"

Indigo snickered. "With my car or as friends?"

*snrk*

Wow, Sugarcoat's determined to be Boogercoat here.

Sugarcoat narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips. "No, sorry, not coming to me. You must not have left much of an impression."

"I'm Flash Sentry."

Like she said.

"Hey, once you're finished with your drink, would you wanna maybe get a dance or two?"

"Nah, I don't see anybody I would like to dance with."

"I... uh... I mean with me..."

"Yeah, I know."

Wow, Sugarcoat, who poked you in the ass with the bitch stick? :ajbemused:

...more than usual I mean.

OK, as much as Flash was being kind of a derp there? Sugarcoat was much harder on him than was really called for. :facehoof:

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. I'm Sugarcoat."

"Night Glider."

...so the ship name is Sugar Glider? You son of a bitch. :rainbowwild:

"Because it's the truth. We're all equal, so there's no reason to feel honored or pressured by another person." She smiled. "There's no conflict without inequality."

Uh-oh.

Sugercoat

Typo.

...wow, Sugarcoat really did not think any of this through. Talk about massively playing the manipulative bitch card. I feel sorry for Night Glider. :fluttershysad:

Defining Character moment right now. I can't wait to see what Sugarcoat does.

Hold on to your butts, decision-making time!

MJP

Why is zecora on the thumbnail

No wonder Sunset is dedicated to proving herself to Cinch. Cinch is probably the first one to tell her that being ambitious is not a bad thing!

P.S. How do Indigo and Sugarcoat know that Sunset is living with Cinch "off the record"? Sunset is under no obligation to tell any other students where she lives and students are not allowed access to that kind of information because it would constitute a breach of privacy.

kul

*gesturing X marks using both arms*
Sugarcoat, being interested in a new way of life doesnt always means you need to join them. You dont have to be so brutally honest all the time, but you mustnt threw it all away so suddenly as well. There is a balance for Sugarcoat, and I would like to see Sugarcoat's briliance emerged and she choose the best options.

also, I LOVE your intrepertation of Starlight Glimmer! Cant wait to see more of it! I can only visioned Sunburst wallowing in self pity as well, while whisking away his tears with money from his high paying job of course.

She wondered for a minute how a place like this flew under her radar...

It's like the places in Harry Potter. Someone has to show it to you so you start noticing it.

For instance, Sunset Shimmer sure had a nice motorcycle for a homeless teenage girl...

The Little People from 1Q84 gave it to her. Or it's her Tardis.

Perhaps it was time to be more direct and proactive.

Even more direct?

Indigo Zap growled dangerously.

I normally don't mind adverbs or telliness, but growling dangerously is kinda pushing it.

"Maybe not if we put fake plates on it."

I immediately imagined something out of GTA, when she's unable to recognise them because they changed the colour of the car and their hairstyles. Also, dunno about Sunset, but this trick wouldn't work on me. Plates are literally the last thing I look at when seeing a familiar car. The colour and brand are first, then I try to spot if the driver is someone I know.

"So not only is Cinch in cahoots with Sunset Shimmer to ruin our lives, but Sunset Shimmer is living with her too..." Indigo pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Secretly."

You could sneak in and get some interesting photos, but it'd burn both the camera and your eyes...

7572150

Sunset is under no obligation to tell any other students where she lives and students are not allowed access to that kind of information because it would constitute a breach of privacy.

Well, "not allowed" and "impossible" are two different things. You wouldn't believe how easy is to get information about someone if you know where to look for. Also, maybe the house had something that'd identify the owner, like the name on the mailbox, or a ten-foot statue of Principal Cinch in the garden...

A sympathetic version of Equality Starlight.

Never thought that could actually happen.

Well done, and I mean that. :D

Okay...I'm not as against this Starlight as I am with the c*nt that is Season 5 Starlight.

15 years of Friendship as opposed to 5-6 and (although all we have is her word) her description of being shoved aside seems like it could be far more accurate.

Caring for one another and teamwork is something good to strive for, understanding others is a good thing.

The only problem with her thought process is that she's still demonizing ambition entirely, as if it gives everyone a superiority complex that makes them look down on everyone. The description of Night Glider's appearance makes it clear that she's still basically doing the equality thing (but maybe not to an extreme extent as we saw before, maybe)

Given that she was taught under Cinch however does make this more understandable.

Good job.

7572414
Sorry, I guess I should have been more clear before. My bad. What I meant was that the school would not be allowed to to give them the information that Sunset lives with Cinch. Secret to the students, yes, but not to the faculty.

About the only way for most people to know that Sunset lived there would be to follow her, break into school records or if Cinch or Sunset posted it somewhere anyone can access.

You know, I would find it absolutely hilarious if it turns out that Cinch has nothing to do with the stuff Sunset's doing to them and it's just Sunset acting on her own. This plot element never really made sense to me, so I figure Sunset is doing it for the approval of the only person who supported her.

7572511 What this person said.

In the end, ambition and competition isn't too bad... but it certainly can be if taken too far. And Crystal Prep specializes in cultivating the too far route.

Really giving Sugarcoat a lot of cliffs to hang from.:rainbowlaugh:

Looking forward to seeing how Starlight and her work play out in your already complex universe.

Five pairs of eyes fixed on her

I think that should be four pairs of eyes.

CSC

This was by far the best interpretation of Starlight Glimmer's Extreme Socialist views having negative effects on others, like human Sunset (who can't help but have an unquenchable thirst for glory). Great work!

Hopefully EG!Starlight will be more reasonable than her counterpart was and actually consider Sugarcoat's words. Sometimes people just need someone to smack them in the face with a truth hammer.

...And now I want to see a pic of Sugarcoat with a Shao Kahn-style hammer with the word 'TRUTH' written on it.

.... This was an incredible chapter. I do hope Sugarcoat's words have a positive impact on Starlight there, even if they were hard for her to hear.

Welp, human world Starlight made it to pony Starlight's S5 c**t status.

Story was great!

Wow, Sugarcoat's starting to shake things up. And things managed to end on a pretty hopeful note, for now.

Man, that was a strong story! Totally worth the wait. Keep up the good work with what you have planned next!

Zecora: Life can change your life!

... I think 'people die if they are killed' just got taken to the next level, :rainbowhuh:

"Uh..." Indigo cleared her throat as she followed Night Glider into a wing of the building marked with a 'female' symbol on the door that opened into the hallway. "Just so we're clear, I'm not into girls... you know, just in case."

She was surprisingly quick to point that out, though. There may be some closet involved. Or at least a swimming pool,

"Touch my ride without permission and I will eat your kidneys."

There's that saying around here, that one should never lend anyone their car/motorcycle, wife/husband, or undies (some people, myself included, add guitars to the list). I guess Indigo knows that saying.

"No way, I was just psyching myself up for our camping trip next week." Twilight blushed. "With Sunset's help, of course. I've never actually gone camping before."

Little did she know that the camping trip wound end up with levitating stuff and fighting a slightly lost girl with a vine tentacle fetish. Who, due to a certain dark-skinned, green-haired young gentleman may become her sister-in-law one day.

"I need you to spot for me. I'm about to do something stupid."

I guess in case of famous last words, it ranks somewhere around "hold my beer"...

but man, something about that place always rubbed me the wrong way.

I can see it. My first thought was, "they surely eat people", but I guess I'm just used to the crapsaccharine world trope.

On a side note, when you write someone speaking for multiple paragraph, you only make quotes at the beginning of each paragraph, not at the end (unless it's the last paragraph).

I also don't know why Principal Cinch actually seemed to recognize me when Dean Cadence took me to meet her, but it was like she knew right away how smart I was.

Two theories: Cinch made a deal with Satan, or she's actually from Equestria. Or at least has some contacts in there.

a future that doesn't end in six diseases

I'm so skewed by my job that my mind immediately went into a tangent, wondering what would those six diseases be (hepatitis B and C, cirrhosis, AIDS, syphilis, and TB. In this case, "gotta catch 'em all" is a bad idea).

And hell, Sugarcoat wins this one. Though I guess it'll take Sunset a while to change her ways.

and I will eat your kidneys."

Best threat ever. :rainbowlaugh:

You failed her, Starlight Glimmer, not the other way around."

"I have failed you, Sunset, I have failed you." "I hate you!" I couldn't not reference RotS

Wait, if they are against competition on even the smallest level, how come they have video games? I could understand something like an RPG or Tetris, but something that's played with multiple people?

7650515

Hence why they were passing around one controller and not playing a multiplayer game.

Sugarcoat cleared her throat. She had completely lost focus on what she had come here to learn, and she found it difficult to focus on it. She felt like she had just had her eyes ripped open and forced to see the truth behind her school, herself, and the world. What Starlight Glimmer was saying made sense, and this little building of hers was a nest of peace and equality.

And if she wanted, Sugarcoat could join them.

Someone's in danger of drinking the kool-aid.

WHOO. That ending to the chapter. :twilightoops: Everything Zecora said was true.

  1. Zecora plucked the first card off of the left stack and set it face up. It had a picture of a woman on it with no face. "You will meet a stranger soon."/She started to make her way back to the bar, but her steps slowed when she spotted a girl sitting on one of the stools in front of the bartender. She had dark skin and snow white hair cut into a bowl...
  2. Zecora flipped a card from the center stack. This time it had a picture of a chest filled with gold and jewelry. "You will see opportunity in this encounter."/but most importantly, Sugarcoat recognized her. She had seen her with the human world's Sunset Shimmer several times during her reconnaissance, but she had never found the girl alone. This was her chance... her chance to finally crack the mystery of Sunset Shimmer and resolve this annoying, dangerous conflict.
  3. Curiously, Zecora flipped the next card. This one had a picture of an angel holding a pitchfork. "You will be faced with a choice that will shape your heart for the rest of your life."/They had known each other for several weeks now, a simple kiss probably should have happened long ago if they were in a real relationship of any kind. She raised her hands to Night Glider's shoulders, letting them rest against her gently. Night Glider's eyes closed and her lips puckered expectantly. What was she supposed to do here? If she kissed Night Glider she would officially be passing the point where she could claim to be ignorant of her feelings. She would be officially using her, toying with her for information, like a cold and heartless liar. Maybe she would have been okay with that once, back before the Friendship Games... but not here, not now.
  4. Zecora took another card from the center stack to plop it down beneath the other three cards. This one had a picture of a shadow holding a dagger, coming up behind an innocent-looking girl. "There will be great danger in this time..." Zecora's eyes flicked up towards her from the cards. "Though whether for you, or from you, I cannot divine."/If she was going to come clean, she had to do it now... but if she did, she might lose her chance to learn more about Sunset Shimmer. Night Glider might get mad at her, or even hate her... and they could be at Sunset and Cinch's mercy for the rest of their school life. Sunset's last move had almost killed someone... what if the next one actually did?
  5. "The cards reveal the future of the heart, though their warnings are nothing but a start." Zecora placed her deck in front of her as she fixed one more steady gaze on her customer. "Approach strangers with great care."

And now, to see Sugarcoat's choice...

WELL. I certainly didn't see that coming. But I think I know how we got here. :trollestia: Zecora, you sly dog.

"Good." Sugarcoat patted his head, then turned to head towards the rest of the room, more to stretch her legs than to join the throng of students in the center, which had grown more dense as the hour grew later.

That was both harsh and rude of her. :ajbemused:

"I'd love to." Sugarcoat cut off her friend quickly. Indigo gave her a strange look as she took Night Glider's hand and helped her stand up from the stool. "We'll be back in a minute, Indigo Zap."

I did not see that coming. :pinkiegasp:

They had a great time together every time they met, but every attempt Sugarcoat made to prod Night Glider about her home life or her other friends was for naught. The girl was tight-lipped about her social life and her home life, brushing off her prodding questions with "I'm here right now." It was a sweet sentiment, but it didn't do Sugarcoat any good. If she wanted to know about Sunset Shimmer, she needed Night Glider to trust her completely.

Something tells me that'll be a pain to get accomplished. :applejackunsure:

Night Glider looked into her eyes a bit suspiciously, then squeezed both of her hands. "Then... kiss me. Please."

Wait what!?!?!?!? 😨

"I'm sorry to hear that." Sugarcoat looked up at the darkening sky as the first stars began to peer out of the growing night. She pushed herself up from the grass and brushed some stray blades from her skirt before holding her hand out to her friend. "Would you like me to walk you home?"

Well, at least she got some more info on the human sunset shimmer and even starlight glimmer too, even if most of it wasn't great to learn. :fluttershysad:

Her eyes stopped on the center window on the third floor, through which she saw a woman holding a mug between both hands sitting against the windowsill in an ornate silk nightgown. The woman was peering down at her with a curious, but harmless expression. When she saw that Sugarcoat had noticed her she waved with one hand before returning it to her mug.

Must be starlight glimmer. :applejackunsure:

So their plans were made. Indigo Zap created the plates with her shop class equipment and mechanical expertise, and to her credit they certainly looked legitimate enough to get them arrested, despite reading phucksun .

Is that supposed to say/mean fuck sunset?

Sugarcoat glanced over at her friend. "The house belongs to Abacus Cinch."

:pinkiegasp:

https://m.

"I graduated from there." Starlight was giving her an appraising, curious gaze now. "I know how they think, and while I don't know what all Night Glider has told you about us, I can imagine what you think of us right now."

That's interesting. :rainbowderp::rainbowhuh:

Starlight Glimmer smirked. "He believed it so much that when he got the chance to shove me to the dirt in order to get himself a head start on a better education and a better job, he didn't even hesitate. Fifteen years of friendship tossed aside like a rotting piece of meat." Her head hung against her chest for a few moments before she turned to Sugarcoat, speaking in a soft tone. "I don't expect you to understand, but that is what ambition does to people. I know, being a student of Crystal Prep, you've seen this in action."

Dang, should of guessed sunburst was gonna be mentioned sometime in this story but not like this. 🙁

Must be a lot to take in. 😥

"Me? I like to swim, personally." Night Glider stretched her arms out over her head. "I have an extra swim suit, if you'd like to try the pool."

How nice of her.

"I wish I had an answer for you, but some people just can't be saved or reasoned with." Starlight Glimmer cocked her head with a sad smile. "I did everything I could to show her the error of her ways. But it looks like she's found a place she truly belongs." A slight smirk tugged at her cheek. "Good for her, I suppose."

It was worth a shot. :fluttershysad:

"It's okay, Twi." Sunset squeezed Twilight's hand as she met Sugarcoat's eyes. There was a solemnity in them that Sugarcoat had rarely seen from her before. "If you want me to be completely honest? Yes. If my friends hadn't reached out to me, and pulled me back... I probably would have kept going. Who knows where I would have ended up. That was why, even after the portal opened again, I decided to stay here permanently. I need my friends to remind me why I need to try to be good."

And that is perfectly ok sunset.

"That's good. Too few young people think anymore about what their actions might bring upon themselves and others."

That's what I think about a lot actually. :applejackunsure:

"Be ready to save my life." Sugarcoat marched away from her friends' table to the other empty table, moving across from Sunset Shimmer to plop down her tray and slide into the seat right in front of her. Sunset's eyes snapped up from her food to regard her in incredulous shock, but Sugarcoat didn't respond while she twisted the top off of her milk.

Oh, that's what she meant by saving her life, hope she's prepared for what's to come. 😬

Sugarcoat stood up curiously, and soon felt herself being patted down by Sunset's rough hands. Sugarcoat raised her eyebrow as the hands ran up and down her torso and legs, as if searching for signs of a concealed weapon or wire. She even lifted her skirt and the bottom of her shirt. "I never knew you felt this way about me. At least buy me dinner first."

That's kind rude of her actually to inspect her for weapons, not to mention ever lift her skirt too, which is something even I would never do. :twilightangry2:

"I even got into shoplifting. Not because I couldn't afford the stuff, but because I liked seeing the look on her face when I showed up with the cops. It was worth every punishment. Honestly I always thought her threats about putting me out on the street were hot air... guess the joke was on me. She actually dragged me out of the swimming pool on my eighteenth birthday, gave me an hour to gather up my things, and kicked me out onto the curb."

Well you kinda deserved it for what you've done. :ajbemused:

Sunset Shimmer was staring up at the fiery orange sky as she spoke. "I don't know why Dean Cadence noticed me in particular. I also don't know why Principal Cinch actually seemed to recognize me when Dean Cadence took me to meet her, but it was like she knew right away how smart I was. It was kind of freaky, but no way was I gonna turn down an offer to get off the street and get back on the road to a future that doesn't end in six diseases. Cinch lets me crash at her place, provides for me, and gives me a chance to get my education back on track. In exchange... well, I guess you know what she wants from me."

That sure does explain many questions I've been having and now they've been answered. 😕

"Because I'm not sure things would actually improve here. You're a lot like Principal Cinch."

Wow, I can't believe she said that out of the blue! 😨
