"Tim, you're just so nice nobody could hate you. We all are secretly in love with you." ~bats

Appearance is everything, especially when you're a Wonderbolt. When you live your life in the spotlight, showing vulnerability will not do. There can be no cracks in your foundation, at least that's how it feels. But learning to bring those walls down can lead to surprising, wonderful revelations—even in the intensive care ward.

For some ponies, like Captain Spitfire, something needs to shake the foundations to bring the walls tumbling down. Then, with some help from the right pony, you can be led from the rubble.

Even if you fall head-over-hooves along the way.

I submit the theme song for this story:

Well, I'm hooked. I'm always in need of some more romance with that fiery pegasus. Great start, Tim! I look forward to reading this as more and more of it comes out. I think part of it is the novelty of the pairing, too.

I completely agree.

Well, you guys are certainly fast, aren't you?

Of course you would.

Again, your shutterstock images give me life

aaaaaaaaaa! :raritydespair: (I don't have anything of someone hiding their face, so this will have to do!)

Thank you for reading! It's definitely not a pairing I've ever seen around, and the image I linked in the author's note of chapter one here is the only piece of fan-art (excluding my commissioned cover) I've seen of just Spitfire and Redheart.

Hehe! Glorious indeed!

And hopefully any glory will continue :3

Congrats. You got featured!

7981918 Actually I've seen this one like two or three times before this one. They were all one shots I think.

Well now a ship I haven't seen before?..AND it is off to a good start? time to buy a ticket.

Yay! Always a thrill to make that mark. :rainbowdetermined2:

Oh, very interesting. I hadn't seen any other RedheartxSpitfire stories before starting work on this one. Looks like I'm going to have to do a little story digging to see what else is out there >:3

Careful, my friend. This ticked is a one-way trip to insanity.

7982077 Yeah it's really rare and I think those were all clopfics too boot. I'm not too sure though, I uh wasn't really paying much attention. So don't put too much into that part of it.

In the picture, why does it look like Spitfire has a horn?

...Well then. Might have to watch this one. Definitely seems interesting.

Hello, nurse.

Did you just

7982077 Been there, done that, have a shirt. (the Twisted Kingdom isn't so bad)

I'll put this on my pending list because I'm really interested to see where it goes.

Couple of questions for the author though:

1) Do you know what direction you want to take this?

2) Do you have a release schedule? Even a rough one?

3) Do you have anymore of this written up or are you just writing as you go along?

More comments!

Oh, good to know! Thanks for the heads up.

I think what you might be seeing there is a curl of her mane. If you click on the picture and get the enlarged version open, you'll see that there's a yellow "spike" of her mane curling up in the middle of her forehead.

I'm glad you think so!

I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about. :trollestia:

All excellent questions! Allow me to tackle them one by one.
1) I do! This has been something I've been slowly working on and tinkering with for quite some time now—roughly nine months, in fact, since June 2016. The story is fully planned out.

2) I do (again)! I plan to release one chapter a week until completion. There are going to be 14-15 chapters in total, so you can expect this story to be marked complete in roughly 14 weeks or so barring any unforeseen roadblocks. Considering that I posted the story on a Sunday, I will likely be publishing a new chapter on Sundays of every week.

3) Once more, I do! I was worried going into this that I would fall into the trap of posting something and then leaving it stagnant for a couple weeks. To try and minimize the chances of that happening, I put off publishing the story until I had a good buffer ready and written. As I post this comment, the next 10 chapters of the story have been drafted, leaving only the last remaining few chapters to go. With this much buffer built in, it should be smooth sailing until completion.

Loved the chapter.

What a fascinating ship.

She's trapped in Ponyville. Welcome to crazy town.

Thank you!

I thought so, too, when I started this. I still think it's fascinating, and it's been very fun to write so far.

What's the worst that could happen, right?

Rainbow creepily peeks into her hospital window at odd hours.

Celestia, do they make all the nurses out here like this, or am I just that lucky?

You're just lucky, Spits. 8D

I'm sure Spitfire has enough capital to burn to "donate" some anti-pegasus security on all the hospital windows.

Or, y'know, just hers. Security is expensive, yo.

Some ponies say rubbing the Ponyville crystal castle brings good luck. Spitfire went whole hog and slammed into it. Imagine the luck.

Like, reverse shatter-a-mirror luck.

7984451 Having it embedded in your skull is just a way to make sure you carry it with you at all times.

Captain Spitfire, the luckiest mare alive.

The real question here is how lucky she'll be with the lovely Nurse Redheart.

Thoughts, dear readers?

Best surprise Monday ever

A fic for a new, never before seen crackship based on a cute image you found on derpibooru?

Jesus, are we related or something? :rainbowderp:

Jokes aside, I'm liking this so far. Hope to see more soon.

Yay! :raritystarry:

Hahaha, I actually thought of you and Reticence after I started drafting the first couple chapters!

I'm glad to hear that you're liking it so far. The next chapter will be up this weekend, and I'm in the process of outlining the last few now. I'm looking forward to seeing how people react to Redheart and Spitfire once they're alone in a scene together when Spitfire has her wits more about her.

You have no idea how relieved I am to hear those answers, and thank you for taking the time to address them. I just get a little hesitant because of how many good fics I've seen die out after six chapters because the author wrote a concept and a pilot and then had no earthly clue where to go with it if it got popular. It puts me at ease to know you've got a plan, and I'll keep watching this one.

I know exactly how you feel. That's why it's taken me so long to put this out, even though the first chapters were written months ago. I wanted to make sure I knew where the story was going to go and have a good enough buffer to try and ensure I wouldn't post a stagnant-bound story.

I hope the rest of the story keeps your interest.

Very awesome story thus far. I heart me some redheart. Lol I crack myself up.

I'm happy to hear that!

This has been quite enjoyable so far!

I'm very glad to hear that.

I hope the rest of the story holds up!

Well, this seems adorable

And we've only just gotten started. :rainbowdetermined2:

Well, it's an interesting start, certainly and I'm usually in favour of weird or non-obvious ships.

However, I would advise you to be very careful about this. A doctor or nurse getting involved with their patient is... problematic to say the least - an absolute no-no for current patients and a little iffy for former patients as well. Add to that the issues going the other way of a celebrity and a fan and, well, there's an absolute minefield of potential problems or unforseen implications.

Not to say it can't work, particularly if you take things slowly and make sure to keep things within the bounds of professional and medical ethics, but... I'd advise a great deal of caution.

Thank you for your comment.

I understand your concern, though I do not want to say too much about what I have planned for fear of spoilers. I will say that I, to my mind at least, have tread fairly carefully and have spent some good time creating build up over the next several chapters. Though I would suggest keeping in mind that this story is set in a magical pony universe, so not all may be the same or what you would expect in a real hospital setting in our world. I do have some degree of artistic license, but I don't plan on sloppy makeouts between these two for quite some time.

On the note of Redheart being a fan, I can say that there's a good chance of her going from any fangirling (none of which has happened) to eye rolling. :rainbowdetermined2:

Excellently written, plus an unusual/creative shipping combo to boot.

Easy like + track, can't wait to read more and see where this story goes. :rainbowwild:

I am so excited about this! I had thought long, in-depth Spitfire romance was dead as a genre, and in the last two weeks we've had two!

Elected to read this one first as it's shorter at present, and I don't have much free time right now. But now I've read the first chapter, am about to read the second, and want a lot more!

Thank you for this. :yay:

Absolutely loving this so far. And when anypony else might be shy, timid, or show the slightest bit of caution, Spitfire only becomes more brazen. Beautifully in-character. And so nice that she's had two whole chapters of being in Ponyville without being hassled by Rainbow Dash. Can't wait to see more.

I'm afraid I did notice this; I think there's a word missing (I'm guessing 'realise,' or similar):

and only after a second did Spitfire she had licked her lips.

Took me longer than I would usually like to respond, but thank you! New chapter will be coming out sometime tomorrow, so I hope it lives up to the first two chapters.

If you're talking about Carapace's "Glow," then yay! That was mostly intentional on my part. When I saw that he was gearing up to publish his TwiFire, I knew I had to get ready to publish my RedFire. That way, there would be plenty of Spitfire love to go around.

Spitfire only becomes more brazen.

Oh, just you wait for the next update. :raritywink:

And thank you for catching that error! Consider it fixed.

7997762 Yeah, that's the one. Read my first TwiFire story a couple of weeks ago, but that was only a few thousand words, so to see an epic up there in the feature box was wonderful.

What is it about Nurse Redheart? Anytime she's shipped with someone, it's the most beautiful romance story, whether it's Anon or Derpy. Spitfire often has that effect too, so combining the two of them could be explosive :pinkiehappy:

“Woof?” Spitfire supplied.

The Wonderbolts are fans of Squadron Commander Flashheart? Of course they are. It fits perfectly. :facehoof:

This is a comment. <3

:pinkiegasp: That card was priceless :pinkiehappy:

And hats off to Redheart for seeing it, almost unavoidably realising the implication that Spitfire has bragged about her hot nurse to her teammates, and then responding only with compassion. She's wonderful

It's a great read. I was super happy to preread it as Carapace was writing it.

And explosive? I'm sure everything will be fiiiiiiine. :trollestia:

And what a lovely comment it is.

I'm glad Redheart's come across that way! Goodness knows how much she's had to put up with over the years in Ponyville, so I'm glad I was able to keep compassion as a central part of her character and even happier she's coming across that way.

She's trying her best ;3;

Thank you for this wonderful story. You have given me ideas on a ship request I've been given that is most unusual... :pinkiehappy:
