Long ago, the demon Nightmare Moon possessed Princess Luna. The resulting battle ended with Nightmare Moon being banished to a dream realm, but Luna was turned to stone in the process and Celestia lost her divine shell.
A thousand years have passed when the seal containing Nightmare Moon breaks.
Six mares are thrown together in a quest for both the Elements of Harmony and Princess Luna, who alone stands a chance against defeating the demon. Nightmare Moon isn't the only dark force at work and the six mares must venture far from home if they wish to win.

Okay, prologue so far is good. It gives a nice set up for the pending story and a very different backstory for the tale.
My opinion on this chapter is a little mixed. Some of the exposition is decent, such as Twilight Sparkle and Applejack. Especially Applejack. I want to know more of what happened, but later when it fits the story. For others, the exposition is kind of awkward. Rainbow Dash is a little, but Fluttershy's quite a bit. The explanation of her past and charity work seemed odd and out of place. Not exactly like a real conversation.
Over all, it is interesting and I am curious to see where you go with it.
