7777554 I don't care what everybody says, this was cool :derpytongue2: J/k
I would like to make a couple of points, though...

O_O Wait, pegasi and earth ponies can become alicorns!? *Ding*

There are some headcanons that claim Cadence was born a pegasus. Personally, I haven't developed my own fan-verse far enough to cover that... yet...

You know, if you find an artist (if you're not one yourself), you should get a picture of Dawnbreaker and Umbra. *Ding*

I have a couple of commissions for Umbra out, actually; I literally had given no thought to Dawnbreaker beyond the name :twilightblush:

*facepalms* Washington, huh? Guess he decided to break the Apple-related name tradition? *Ding*

What, you've never heard of Washington apples? :trixieshiftright: Okay, yeah, I was reaching lol

T_T Wow, how many alicorns are there? *Ding*

That was actually in the story; see below...

Ascended alicorns were becoming increasingly common, though this basically meant she was no longer the only one; there were perhaps fifty in all, four of whom were Twilight's former students.

All in all, I guess 20 isn't too bad; thanks for taking the time to do this  and for not spoiling the twist ending, though I'm curious as to whether you saw that coming or not :scootangel:

there were perhaps fifty in all,

Wow O.O

"and you’ll always be in my heart... all of you”.

Fullstop before the quotation :ajsmug:

That was sweet. Short, but sweet (Yes, I think tragedies are sweet…fight me).

All in all, it could've used a bit more history and context and a few of the paragraphs were a bit cluttered but, other than that I enjoyed it!

Good job!
