Unbeknownst to their peers at Canterlot High and Crystal Prep, Vice Principal Luna and Dean Cadance take belly dancing classes. Fearing ridicule, they keep their hobby a secret, yet they still long to have friends and loved ones attend their recital...

The first of my Equestria Girls belly dance stories.

I'm trying to picture Celestia's reaction to learning the secret, and the best I could come up with was being ashamed to have no dark secret of her own, followed by Luna painstakingly explaining that there's nothing dark about belly-dancing. "No, there is no 'seedy under-belly-dancing!'"

Not half bad of a story, and had a really nice moral to it as well. Never be afraid to show your secrets no matter how embarrassing you think they are to you friends.

I really picture Luna and Cadance doing belly dancing. Maybe more belly dancing stories in the future?

This was a very interesting story. It's certainly a perspective that should be seen more often, both the pursuit of the art form and the need for understanding that it is truly art. Nice job.

7406061 I can imagine Cinch going on a tirade about how scandalous and improper such a pursuit is for the Dean of Crystal Prep - unless Cadance has some leverage to counter her.

7406318 Thanks! Indeed, if someone truly is your friend, they will understand - or at least make some effort to.

7407120 I'm actually tempted to write about Sci-Twi learning the dance and the various reactions of the other Humane 7 when they find out. If time permits between my art projects...

7407253 Thank you. I really wanted to touch upon some of the stereotypes, misconceptions and social stigma associated with the dance.

I think that the idea that has been raised about Twilight learning how to bellydance is interesting. She could certainly use the training, since she seemed so physically awkward during the Friendship Games.

Hey, can I say congrats on finding some great cover art for your story!

7433083 Thanks! I wanted to finish this pic of Luna and Cadance before posting the story here, but I just kept getting sidetracked.

A good read! Have a thumbs up and a spot in my book shelf!

Two thumbs up and also luna's picture hubba hubba hooowwwllllll!

"My first fanfic ever." That was amazing for a first time, I really enjoyed reading it. Keep it up!

love the picture both Luna and Cadance look hot I wish I had those two for teachers maybe I would've paid attention more

That was very cute and a delightful portrayal of dancing as am art and expression all on its own. Thanks for writing and sharing this wonderful work with everyone. ^_^

This was a nice simple story about some good-natured friendship bonding. I liked it.

I realize that I'm re-posting what I already said about this story when it was posted on deviantArt. However, what I said then still applies, here:

You know, for this being your first time writing a fanfiction, it was a great start. Not only did you manage to capture the emotions of what both Luna and Cadence were feeling as they wondered how their family and friends would react, you've shown that you know your stuff when it comes to the art of Le Danse Orientale.

While I understood what you're going for, I do want to point out that although the stigma of it being equated with striptease does still exist, it has become popular as of late to the point of being looked upon favorably as an alternative form of low-impact exercise.

Also, while there are people within the belly dance community who keep their dance personas away from their "normal" lives, there are dancers out there who are more open about what they do and have had the support of those who know them. Whether they have the understanding of the "general public" or not depends on where they are and what location they perform in.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if this story was also partly inspired by the experiences of other dancers who faced what these two had to, regarding their 1st performance in front of a crowd.

Overall, it's a well-structured story that is well paced and well written.

Much like Elec before me, I am also hoping that this may lead to more belly dancing stories being written within the world of MLP: FiM. Besides, I'm sure there are other writers out there who can be just as creative with a story premise like this as you've been.

I apologize for the repost.

7554706 Thanks! Indeed, dance as art and form of expression are angles seldom explored.

7556112 Glad you did!

7567315 I do appreciate the support all the same!

Definitely not what I was expecting. You did well for your first time, I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.

Very nice work on this. I found this when one of your other stories popped up in the sidebar, so I decided to check it out.

I wish I could be more eloquent about it, but all I can say is that I really liked this story.

All the dread possibilities raced through their minds.

Surely they realised secrets always eventually get revealed, and had planned for this kind of scenario. I mean, Cadence will soon be Shining's wife, and Twilight's sister-in-law; she can't hide one of her favourite activities from him.

Staggered across the hardwood floor were 10 other women

Something I noticed on this re-read; usually, you don't use digits in text - it looks awkward, having numbers in between words. The exceptions are prices ("That'll be $10, sir", not "that'll be ten dollars, sir"), since that's more concise and we're used to that; and units (10 kg, 10° C, 10 m), for the same reasons.
When you're talking about a number of people or objects, just use the word - that's what I've been taught, anyway. I've also been taught that this also applies to large numbers, like twenty-three thousand, seven hundred and eighty-four instead of 23784, but that's definitely more subjective.

Perhaps Cadance was still pondering how to go about revealing her hobby to her loved ones.
