The Rogue Wolf

My name is Ocellus, and I am a changeling- an Infiltrator. I was bred and raised to deceive other creatures by changing my shape and appearance to resemble theirs, to absorb love and other positive emotions and bring the resultant energy back to my hive for our continued survival. For thousands of years my kind existed in secret amongst the other species of Equus, forced by fear to hide our existence lest we be seen as dangerous parasites.

Then came the ill-fated invasion of Canterlot by Chrysalis and her hive, which exposed the existence of changelings to all in the worst way possible.

My hive, and several others, chose then to reveal themselves to the governments of Equus, in hopes that we could disperse fears about our kind and prove that we were not inherently dangerous. Many of the hive's members were given freedom to go abroad as ambassadors of a sort, to show that we could contribute to a society as ourselves.

With my medical background and my abilities as an emotivore, I chose to pursue a career in psychiatry, to help those affected by trauma or other emotional issues more directly than others could. And I also chose to go to a place where few other changelings had dared before the Canterlot invasion- Earth, home of humanity, a species at once alien yet so much like the ones we share Equus with.

Through hard work, perseverance and a desire to help others, I have built a good reputation here. Hundreds of patients of many species have entered my office for help from my unique methodology, as I literally devour the pain they feel from a traumatic event, letting them more easily come to terms with it. I take pride in what I do, and I feel that I've made a positive difference in the worlds.

Today feels as though it'll be like any other... until two patients whose pain is a bit closer to home than I'd like make an appearance.

Thought you were never going to write here again. Nice to see a new story from you.

He lives! HE LIVES! :moustache:

Even if it's just one last hurrah to us before you depart, My gratitude, and my appreciation for your writing swells with glee. I, like many, hope you come back and write more, even if they only tangentially use familiar characters as background flavor or not at all.

Personally, I like your writing period, and would love to see more of it, regardless of it's setting of flavor.

Thanks for giving us another! You're a great writer. Good luck to you and all your endeavors!

absolutely brilliant!
good luck with all your future endeavors

....thank you for this work.

That's a wonderful story…

Thank you!!!

P.S.: Are going to switch to writing original fiction? As a professional writer? I hope it is the case, not giving up on writing… As many said before - you are a great writer.

Awesome--but don't end it there!

Holy cow, I thought you had stopped writing mlp stuff!

Super psyched to see that you're back, wolf! I'll def be reading this next I have some free time~

Glad to see more from you!

Hmm...well first off the concept alone is really good! Never thought about it but a species that thrives on pure emotions would indeed probably make for great therapists. Ocellus frank yet gentle approach to his patients is also a nice touch, shows he's aware his status is going to always be an issue, but at the same time he can work with it to put those who seek his help at ease.

The only thing that kind of stuck out for me (and I feel bad because it was still nicely written) is how much of the story Darell's treatment took up. The synopsis advertises that it's going to be Cadance and Shining seeking out what many would deem the last expected source of aid, yet they don't turn up until about half-way through and then we don't get to see the full course of their treatment. Feel like you could've flipped the focus around so Darell was the second patient we left off on and it'd still work just as well.

Again, mind you, this was a lovely read!

I really enjoyed this, thanks!

Thank you for this excellent read! I did thoroughly enjoy it!

A shame it comes as a parting gift; future works would so sooth the souls and emotions of many a reader if you were to stay. Alas, it is not to be. Farewell.

He reminds me of my uncle, he feels incredibly guilty about having multiple ancestors directly involved in the Manhattan Project.

So you are still writing.

Thank you for the gift. This doesn't have to be goodbye... :fluttershysad:

It's wonderful. Thank you.

Good luck wherever you find yourself.

“It’s okay to hug the bug.”

He's just the best sort of doctor, he really is.

It feels like we need to hear the session...maybe that's just me, but I enjoyed the story, and it felt cut off a tad bit too early.

This certainly came out of the blue. I enjoyed it and think many others will too.

I wish you well, especially if this is the last we will be hearing of you!

Parting gift? Oh man... *shrug* There's so much I want to ask...

"A parting gift."? :pinkiesad2:

You're not gonna stick around? :fluttershysad:

I hope you read this. Your writing has enriched my life. Thank you.

And thank you for your comments.

Goodbye and good luck.

7557454 really cant comprehend how that works. Guilt for things you had no hand in. Great Gramps had a hand in the holocaust, *shrug*

You're pretty good!

A parting gift?
Are farewell in order then? If so, take care of yourself! May you suceed in whatever it is you are going to do.

As far as gift goes, this one was nice to read. A bit clinical and detached from the emotion though, but I guess it was fitting for the character. And the nice litle twist at the end was very well executed.
I do agree with another comment about the fact that palcing Shinning and cadance first woul've been a better choice, it would've placed Ocellus' feeling and his dealing with it more in focus.

Amazing story, a great concept and it was told perfectly.
You good sir/madam, get a fav and a like.

“It’s okay to hug the bug.”

Man, I friggin love that line.

Wow. This was an amazing read. Bravo, bravo!
It's a shame I can't like and add this to my favourites more than just once...

Still, a wonderful parting gift. Thank you so much for that, and best of luck in the future, wherever it takes you

I was hoping this would be a John Wick story for you.

People keep asking if I'm back, and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinking I'm back!

Very good to see something else from you again, it's been a while! And an enjoyable read to boot, thank you. Hope things are going well for you in general, even if it might be a parting gift.

I was actually just pondering re-reading Written in Dust, always did enjoy that one, so thanks for it as well, once more.

Great story, you always were my favorite author on this site. But since you have decided to stop, I hope things go well for you in the future.

Oh, and thank you for writing "Misunderstandings" ;)

My favourite bit was the notepad turn-around.

I just gotta say that actually made me laugh a little.

One says the appointment is for Bulwark, then, the other, Bastion.

Rogue wolf, you may never read this, but I have yet another story of yours to put on my favorites. Your ideas and characterization are some of the best I've ever read in fanfiction, and it pains me to know that you won't be writing any more. But on the off-chance you see this, you've made me laugh, you've made me cry, and you've inspired many of us.

I can only hope that one day I could write something that could even begin to compare to your works.

Stay frosty, and good luck on whatever future endeavours you set your mind to.:derpytongue2::heart:

Now I want more:fluttercry:

And a new changeling just got introduced called Ocellus. :)

I did a massive spit-take when I read the description of the fic, wow. This is like that one old fic that stars Thorax (long before Thorax was a show character).

well...this was a nice parting gift even if you'll never see this message.

For anyone who cares this writer still seems to exist on fanfiction.

I wish you the best Mr wolf and hope you have a lovely easter.
