Nightmare Moon: The Caretaker of Dreams.

Nightmare Moon's New Role

It had taken Nightmare Moon ages, but she had finally done it. She had concocted a spell which gained her access to the realm of dreams, that not even Luna could stop her. Long had Celestia tolerated her to be among them, but she grew rather impatient with Nightmare Moon and her antics. At first, she thought Discord was behind Nightmare Moon's chaotic tendencies, but even he admitted that he had not even known about it until Celestia brought it up.

But Nightmare Moon felt Celestia was in the wrong. Not for being the all high and mighty ruler, but just casting her to the side as if she was just some object. She had to get herself noticed. Luna had to side with Nightmare Moon about the aspect of not giving Nightmare Moon a chance to do something for the good of Equestria, but she felt Nightmare Moon was going about it in the wrong way. But when she found out that Nightmare Moon had made a spell that helped her gain access into the realm of dreams, she was both impressed and worried.

It was the long night from 1000 years ago playing in her head again. She couldn't let that happen and she had chased her sister of the night through the realm of dreams. She saw that Nightmare Moon targeted Twilight Sparkle and her friends with her Nightmarish ways. But then something caught her attention. Something she would bring up when all this was over.

Nightmare Moon didn't just target the Council of Friendship, she then spread her Nightmarish ways through all of Equestria, asleep at the time. When memories of the battle with the Tantabis resurfaced, Luna finally put an end to the nonsense. It was at the crack of dawn, Princess Celestia called all the Alicorns to a meeting. Well, except little Flurry Heart, since she still need to learn how to walk and control her wings. "In all honesty Nightmare Moon, your behavior was inexcusable. But in light of the fact that you came to own up for your actions, and you are family, your punishment will be reduced," Celestia said.

"I understand sister," Nightmare Moon said.

"Therefore, I have put my vote in to," Celestia was cut off as Twilight Sparkle interjected.

"Hold on Celestia. Now, I know as of recent, before this whole situation, dreams were a place of wonder and enjoyment. But, I don't think that bad dreams are necessarily bad," Twilight said.

Celestia's jaw dropped a bit, "Twilight, am I correct to assume that you think Nightmare Moon should continue this trend of hers?"

Luna cut in, "Actually Tia, I agree with her. Whilst I was watching Nightmare Moon go about with her casting of, well, nightmares, I caught something very interesting happen. I began to see ponies facing fears that, normally, they would be too scared to face in the real world. Simply put, bad dreams put into pictures fears that can't be put into words."

"Interesting," Cadence said.

"Indeed, as an example, Daring Do was finally able to tell Rainbow Dash a secret she had been keeping, because before, she was too afraid of the outcome, and the dream helped her face that situation," Twilight said.

"Huh..... so, what are we suggesting here?" Celestia said.

"Yes, I thought this was for me to be punished, now I am thrown for a bit of a loop," Nightmare Moon said.

"Well, let me ask you this. How would like to appoint Nightmare Moon as the, shall we say, the Princess of Dreams? I know it sounds rather odd, but, it would ease some of the duties for me, and I know you're already searching for someone who can be a caretaker of a few things you'd rather not deal with big sister. Plus, I'll check in on her every once in a while. It's kind of fun to see what ponies dream about from time time," Luna said.

Celestia paused and brought her hoof to her chin. "Well, I suppose I was a little harsh, keeping her from being appointed positions before," Celestia said.

"Well, I do appreciate this chance you are giving me. But, I'm not sure my name would fit with the title too well," Nightmare Moon said.

"I have a new name for you sister..... Nyx," Luna suggested.

"Hmm, simple, still refers to the night, and is quite catchy.... I accept. Nyx, Princess of Dreams," Nyx answered.

"Then it's settled, Night, er, I mean, Nyx is now the Princess of Dreams. Is there any objections," Celestia waited for a hoof raise..... none, "Then the title is official and will be announced to Equestria at the earliest convenience."

"Oh, thank you Tia. I'll give ponies the best dreams and the scariest nightmares. You won't be displeased with my work," Nyx said as she hugged her big sister.

"Alright, Alright, but not too scary of nightmares. When a pony is falling in a dream, including pegasi who can't fly, I don't want them to hit the ground, agreed?" Celestia demanded.

"Oh, alight," Nyx agreed as she took out a quill an parchment.

"And no pony being chased by dream monsters ever gets caught," Luna added.

"Right, right, these are mortal ponies we're dealing with. That would be cruel," Cadence agreed.

"Okay.... there's no problem with them showing up to school in Foal Attire is there?" Asked with a devious smile on her face.

Everyone had a moment of silence, then all the princesses, and a few guards burst out in belly laughs, rolling on the ground, before composing themselves to come up with more suggestions about what can happen in dreams.

After all was said and done, the princesses had an assembly of their Equestrian citizens who could attend, to announce the newest member of their ranks, Nyx, and soon word was spread throughout Equestria about her new role. She soon got more of a approval rating then King Sombra. Course she was starting to gain on Discord.

The End. Hope you enjoyed. As I said in the title, this was inspired by watching the episode "Hercules and The Long Nightmare."

I put this out so I am not accused of plagiarism. I also used Nyx at the end, because I thought it would make the title more catchy. I understand this name is famous for the story "Past Sins", but I don't feel that story has rights to the name alone, since Greeks used it long before it was used in the story. Please don't hate me for using it towards the end.
