Twilight and Starlight spend a week in Canterlot to see old friends, but they run into a couple of ponies whom are having a problem with one of their old, long lost friends whom they wronged long ago and wish to make it up to him.

But when Twilight and Starlight confront the pony, they find that maybe some things just can't be fixed so easily!

LESSON: You cannot simply demand someone change to the way you want them to be.

-There's one missed opportunity. Unless I missed something, there could have been a scene where Starlight tells Stone of what happened when she grew grudges. She'll admit at least Stone didn't try to turn a town into a dystopia and nearly destroyed all time at one point, but she eventually got over her grudge and learned to open up.

You DID miss something, 2 things actually.

1: Starlight doesn't want to tell about her past for fearing it will ruin her
2: I don't want Stone to make up with anyone. (this fic was designed to crush the ponies' spirits and hopes)

-The ending. I know what the message is. 'Sometimes, you can't tell somepony what to be and sometimes, and you must accept that friendship doesn't usually work." That's fine and dandy, but is anyone else going to accept that Stone is going to spend the rest of his days as a shut-in, alone and miserable, just because of some mean things some ponies said? That's a horrible fate! It doesn't help that, even before he snapped, he was rather rude. Sure, there could have been a better approach to him, but c'mon!

A person like you shouldn't care about a person like Stone (Hence why he ended up like that to begin with)

-The painfully obvious fact that Stone seems to be a stand-in for you. I really don't want to make this personal. But the similarities to him and you (visions of grandeur, 'betrayed' by friends, tries to spend rest of days as a shut-in writer on the basis of 'not hurting anyone', adversity to friendship, inability to accept humility) are rather glaring. It comes off as ego-stroking and it turns him into a straw-character/author filibuster type. A recipe for disaster.

Yeah well to me, it's better than having a life and having much to do with friendship.

And the cruel ponies are stand ins for people who don't even give these stories a chance

Huh I thought they would have found him dead

Sounds to me like stone is just being petty and salty.

I feel like that’s not the entire reason, because if it was he probably would have turned his life around.

That's nothing, you should see him in my other stories... he gets way nastier

“Is that why you teased me?” Stone asked “You flirted with each other to make me feel jealous, and then you told me to stop putting you my stories, Sandy as if I was committing a crime.”

Ok, that is true. If you know two people have a crush on you just choose one. Don’t play games.

“It was all in fun…” Shining said “Weren’t really trying to hurt you.”

What did he think it was going to do.

Twilight had lost patience too, but before she could say even a word, Stone Heart began to glow brightly with fury, and with his horn he blasted the pile of books into a mountain of ash. The blast was so strong, that some of the tables were knocked over and the decorations fell down leaving a big mess in the middle of everything.

Maybe he has a talent in magic.

The few unmoved ponies were still unmoved, “What’s the big deal? All we did was tell him the truth, how we felt about it.”

You can tell the truth, but also give advice to help them.

“I don’t know if this is such a good idea.” Spike said.

It was your suggestion.

He went on explaining how his current life style wasn’t just by choice, but rather all he could possibly do. Writing was all he felt he was good at, but because others couldn’t respect his style and taste what was the point to it. He had no other skills and talents, hence why he was a trash-picker “…even there it isn’t good enough!” he grumbled.

Maybe you’re looking in the wrong places.

this is only the first FIF... you got a long way to go.

This story is getting interesting. It isn't written very well (I'm ignoring that this was written 6 years ago), but I'm loving the concept.

I like how Twilight and Sandy become friends (if not, they still have a positive relationship) with each other. Makes it feel like the world doesn't revolve around Stone Heart.

I like how Twilight and Sandy become friends

I don't.

I also like how the world doesn't revolve around Stone Heart with Twilight and Sandy actually improving their situations.

First writing I read from you was "Friendship is Failure #25: Death to Twilight", I scrolled down to see your other works, and I didn't know "Friendship is Faliure" is a series (that makes sense why it was #25...)!
Poor Spike, I hope his back and arms are okay after pushing all that luggage! :pinkiegasp:
Gosh darn it, Twilight! You have magic, so help your assistant!!! :twilightoops:

Oh, I have much more...

I have my own MLP series (11 seasons, several movies, and even my own EQG stuff)

Oh man, Stone Heart, that stuff was back in Highschool! Maybe he had some good reasons why he wasn't able to go to the reunion? Maybe he was too embarrassed he rudely acted back then and feels guilt? Maybe something else!
This friendship is gonna be patched, right? Right?! *sweating* :pinkiecrazy:
To the next chapter I go!

Sorry, but... it's called "Friendship is "FAILURE" for a reason

Having a cutie mark that involves writing, but working as a track-picker (no offense to trash-pickers. People who deal with trash and grime, I respect a lot! Like, who else makes our place clean and free of germs?) seems kinda sad. I want him to seek his passion! Though I understand being turned down a lot, can really damper your spirit. At the same time, I wanna see Stone Heart happy and getting into writing again! ... But I also wanna see how this all goes downhill...
... Oh boy...

“No, please, stop that.” Twilight said to the ponies trying to get them to calm down and cease the needless mockery, but the ponies simple ignored her and kept throwing all the books until they were all in one big pile.

Man, and these people graduated high-school? Man, they act as cruel as if they were still in it. Poor Stone Heart. Yeah uh, Twilight, you kinda messed it up big time. Dude doesn't need to go through this.

The second he had left, Spike showed up, having been late for the party for unknown reasons. He was all suited up, but when he saw the mess and all the ponies looking unenthusiastic and grim,

“…Okay, what did I miss?”

Oh Spike, you missed... Uh... A lot. :twilightsheepish:

Happy those ponies who made fun of Stone Heart feel ashamed! When Twilight and co. went to Stone Heart's home I was super worried to see (or uh, read) something gruesome in the house that involves fatal self-harm, but at least it didn't go that dark! Thank god, Stone Heart didn't resort to that...
Man, still going out despite what happened yesterday, Stone Heart, you sure you don't wanna take a break from work for just a day?
I do agree to not push down your beliefs down people's throats. Sometimes people just might've been better without whatever you are forcing to give them. Damn, poor Stone Heart.

Anyways, thanks for the story! I enjoyed it! Time to move on to the next part of the "Friendship is Failure" series :raritystarry:
