“Adagio are you nuts?” Aria questioned. The Dazzlings had taken their newest member into the city so she could have an outfit made for the battle of the band's finals. Currently, the three sirens were in the waiting room of a popular tailor shop while Sunset was being fitted by the tailors’ assistant, a young girl named Suri. “It was bad enough having to find enough emotion to feed three of us but with four…” Aria began.
“After we win the battle of the bands we’ll be able to feed a hundred sirens,” Adagio countered.
“She is one of them!” Aria repeated.
“Not anymore, and she wasn’t always,” Adagio responded getting to her feet. “At one time she ruled Canterlot High with an iron fist and then she brought Equestrian magic into this world! But the Rainbooms stopped her, don’t you see? She’s just like us; she’s not satisfied just surviving she wants more, and that’s exactly how we felt when we left the other sirens!”
Aria frowned, and Sonata looked down at her shoes, “she’s not a siren,” Aria finally spoke.
“Who cares?” demanded Adagio, “she is just like us, she’s chosen us, not only has she seen the power the Rainbooms can create she’s experienced it first hand and even so, she chose us over them!”
“If this doesn’t work…” Aria began.
“We’ll have one more mouth to feed, and you have my every permission to say, 'I told you so' as much as you want!” Adagio declared. “She is one of us now, and that is the end of the story, she put on the pendant and now we couldn’t break our link to her without damaging our magic!”
“And what if that’s the plan?” demanded Aria. “To get us to link to her so she can damage our magic from the inside?”
“You didn’t see her when she reached for her pendant,” responded Adagio. “She looked the same way I did when I saw that beacon of magic, you can never fake that look!”
“If this blows up in our faces it will be your fault!” Aria declared.
“And I will take full responsibility if that happens but I think… no, I know it won’t!” Adagio declared.
Aria could finally see Adagio was sure of her decision, “fine,” she finally said. “But if this goes wrong you are going to do my laundry and dish duty the rest of eternity!”
Adagio grinned knowing she had won the battle “it’s a deal.”
“Maybe it’ll be fun to have a new sister,” Sonata happily suggested.
“I guess anyone’s better than you, I mean you are the worst!” Aria said with a grin.
“Am not!” Sonata argued.
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Will you two knock it off?” Adagio shouted looking ready to tear her hair out, “in the name of Tartarus, am I your leader or your mother?”
“Now kids.” A voice from behind belonging to Sunset spoke, she was wearing an outfit very similar to the one she wore as a she-demon and talking in a masculine voice. “If you keep making mommy mad you’ll have no desert tonight.”
Adagio giggled, “finally someone with a brain joins the group.”
“Well she’s got a sense of humor,” Aria remarked, “I’ll give her that.”
“You know,” Sunset spoke softly, “I know you’re mostly about singing, but I do play guitar.”
All three Dazzlings looked at Sunset for a moment, and she thought they were about to laugh her off. “Hmm” Adagio finally said, “that’s interesting.” For a moment Sunset thought Adagio was just humoring her until she added. “I know I could never get the hang of one of those things.”
Aria looked shocked and pretended to grab her chest as though she had a heart attack “Whoa, Adagio Dazzle is admitting someone can do something better than her! Somebody call the newspaper!”
Sonata made and excited noise “oh boy she can play guitar, I love the guitar, I can’t wait to hear Sunset play the guitar, only one thing what’s a guitar?”
“Ignore her” Adagio commented. “Now, I don’t know if we can work a guitar into our actual performance tonight given the limited time and the required hand movements but maybe before we all sing you could warm up the crowd with a guitar solo.”
“Really?” Sunset questioned eagerly.
“Well, we’ll throw it on the wall at practice and see if it sticks, speaking of which I think it’s about time we get to practice,” Adagio announced.
The Sirens and Sunset Shimmer walked to the stadium where the finals of the Battle of the Bands were to take place. “Hmmmm…” Adagio surveyed the surroundings “it’s no Canterlot stadium, but I suppose it’ll do.”
“I think it’s nice,” Sunset remarked.
“Well I suppose it does have a certain rustic charm, but it doesn’t matter,” Adagio told her fellow bandmates “after tonight we’ll be able to perform wherever we want.”
“Like Pluto?” Sonata inquired, “I’ve always wanted to go there!”
Adagio took charge, “now then onto more important matters let’s hear you play Sunset.”
Sunset gave a nervous gulp as she grabbed a spare guitar from the stage and plugged it into an amp, “hey,” Aria whispered. “If you can impress Adagio I will officially owe you big time.”
Sunset smiled as Aria took her seat. Sunset took a deep breath and looked out to her new friends. Sunset thought to herself as she took a breath, “friends.” Could Sunset truly call them friends yet? She’d only just met them and to say their relationship got off to a rough start was a vast understatement, and yet she couldn’t help but feel a certain bond to them already a bond that went beyond any magical binding created by the pendants. Adagio took a very big risk in trusting her however she said she saw similarities between them and though she would’ve denied it before she was now proud of the fact that she shared similarities with her new friends. Also, she was proud of the fact that these friends accepted her for all her traits, even the dark ones.
Finally, Sunset took her last deep breath before she began to play scales, moving into a rock tune, and finally, she started to shred. Sunset could feel herself getting lost in the music! When she finally stopped, she heard thunderous applause.
“That was great!” Aria proclaimed.
“I loved listening Sunset play that stringy thing but when’s she gonna play the guitar?” Sonata inquired.
Aria slapped herself as Adagio rose from her seat “very nice Sunset it’s been a long time since music like that has moved me.” Sunset felt herself blush slightly. “However,” Adagio added in a grimmer tone. “As I said I don’t think we can work the guitar into our performance,” Sunset felt her face fall, “however, I think a guitar solo to warm up the crowd is definitely in order.”
Sunset took a nervous gulp, “something wrong?” Adagio inquired.
“I’m just worried about what everyone’s gonna say about me on stage,” Sunset admitted.
Adagio walked on stage and put an arm around Sunset, “now you listen; it won’t matter if they protest as you start the main thing is that they’ll be cheering by the end.”
“You think so?” Sunset inquired.
“With what I just heard I know it,” Adagio promised. “I can see it now as you finish you your last note there’s only one word to describe you…”
“Traitor!” Proclaimed a new voice.
The Dazzling’s and Sunset Shimmer looked to the stadium entrance, and there stood six familiar teens.
Sunset took another nervous gulp, Sonata and Aria joined their comrades on stage, and Adagio smiled, “well, look who it is.”
YES! IT'S ALIVE! ALIIIIIIIIIIVE!
But damn, that cliffhanger.
IT LIVES!
A few grammar issues, simple capitalization in a few parts, but sans that, wonderful! Glad to see this story in my feed and can't wait to see what goes down next!
Couldn't resist.

Lovely to see more of this, loving the Siren/Sunset dynamic, good job.

So how exactly could they have helped the Sirens? The Rainbooms were set up on a hill a fair distance away from the crowd, and the Sirens only stayed for a few seconds after their gems broke before getting the hell out of Dodge. Unless they just walked away from the large angry mob, there's no way the Rainbooms could have reached them before they disappeared. There's little chance they'd ever be able to find them. Maybe one or two would run into another at a restaurant or mall, but that would just be an individual thing and there's still nothing the Rainboom in question could do to stop her from leaving (especially in public).
As for Midnight Sparkle--she gets a pass for reason of insanity. Aside from the frankly terrifying levels of peer pressure and threat of having her future education damaged by her shitty teacher, she had no way to know that opening up the locket would also drive her violently insane.
That's what I said when I was caught about to set my ex-girlfriend on fire. She said she wanted to heat things up in the bedroom.
I'm joking. I've never had a girlfriend. Well, except for the blow-up doll. She always looked so surprised to see me...hmm...
Oh yeah. This story was good. And, er...Sunset Shimmer did a thing, and the writing was structured...and that thing happened...good story, would recommend it for live reading on YouTube.
Probably gonna be Rainbow that said that. The one that started it all. To be honest, Rainbow is both in human andpony form my 2nd least favorite of the Mane 6. Rarity is still the worst though, seriously I freaking hate Rarity and can't stand episodes centered on her.
Still with how Sunset has been treated at this point it really makes sense that this happened. On top of that the sirens might actually win. Given how Sunset is likely to strike them at the core with her truth, it might screw up their Magic of Friendship enough to disrupt their magic by planting doubt into them.
This story really intrigues me.
I think after Sunset put that pendant on, she should have had a major change permanently in demeanor. Something like Anakin from Star Wars after he turned to the dark side.

Keep it up and it was probably rainbow who said that.
Oh please sunset rip them a new one for daring to call you a traitor after how they treated you.
Ohh i like this story. please, more :3
7538307 Cannon Rarity is the worst of the main six to me as well, some fan works make her character work a lot better but on the show she almost always selfish and greedy.
I don't really have a second worst personally. My list would have the rest fairly tied for second with Twilight being best. Rainbow has her good side but her bravado refuses to let her show it.
The show writers aren't really great at making new conflicts without reusing old flaws. I think they might be getting better though. The new hoofball episode showed Flutters with a bit more confidence (until pressured) than Filly Vanilli and the others that reused her shyness flaw seemingly without any progression.
7538307 The Rainbooms are the ones to blame for Sunset joining the Dazzlings. Sunset has done nothing but try her hardest to make up for all of her past misdeeds, but in the end...
As a VERY wise man once said, "All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day."
Can she really be called "traitor" if she was never actually a member of their team in the first place?
She never performed on stage with them, therefore she never actually fought for their cause.
Plus, they decided not to go after her thanks to majority rule.
I'd feel pretty unwanted too, especially after they didn't try that hard to derail Rainbow's rant in ch 1.
Maybe they mean "traitor" as in the fact that Sunset 's getting chummy with the Sirens?
That still isn't betrayal.
I make new friends/acquaintances all the time.
That doesn't mean that I'm abandoning the old ones, and that still wouldn't be called treachery even if I did walk out.
That would just be me deciding to cut ties in favor of a different crowd.
Assuming that Adagio was right about the Rainboom's never truly being her friend, then technically the only person in this story guilty of betrayal so far would be Twilight thanks to her "For the greater good" mentality.
7538297 They could have at least tried to look for them and put it some effort in stead of just writing them off. They could literally have done anything but they chose to do nothing. The only way for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.
Twilight did not have to listen to the peer pressure, she did not have to break under them. But she did, not trying to belittle but that is the truth.

*proceeds to whack the Humane 5 with his baton*
7539861
When would they find them and talk to them? In the two minutes before the movie ran out of time? They aren't trackers, what could they have done that would actually have let them find the Dazzlings? Yes, they "could literally have done anything", but none of the things they could try would have done anything to help. The closest they could come would be to call the cops on them--and I don't think I need to elaborate on why that would be a bad idea.
And they're old--centuries, at least, have had barely-functioning magic for most of that time, and were involved in at least some criminal acts. If the Dazzlings don't want the Rainbooms to follow them, then then the only way the Rainbooms would meet them again is from chance.
And I think you are greatly underestimating just how powerful peer pressure is--particularly when combined with threats against her future. She's the wallflower who everyone avoids and has no social experience and no confidence, and about to face the weight of her entire school hating her if she messes up. Expecting anyone in that situation not to give in is ridiculous.
Mind you, I'm just talking about the movies. Not their behavior in this story (although I probably should... someone's story probably isn't the best place to argue character interpretations).
7539963 First off, they're not centuries old that myth has been debunked, stop it. Second, they could have asked around to see if any one else has seen them, they could have at least show some concern.
I'm not knock Twilight, I am just explaining her fault in what she did. It is a reasonable and understandable fault, but it's still her fault.
But you're right, this isn't the place to have this conversation. So with that I am ending this conversation.
7539455
You would think that by this point that Twilight would have understood that "the greater good" thing doesn't work with friendship. Even factoring in episodes up to the release of EQG 2.
7540257
You would think.
But this story wouldn't be anywhere near as interesting to read if Twilight and the girls weren't being stupid.
7540296
Definitely have me there. Though still have you ever heard of the Holiday Special Comic "Anon-A-Miss". They were hundreds times more stupid and hurtful to Sunset than they ever where in the EQG movies. Really puts onto question on whether or not Sunset should have been their friends at all for the 3rd movie given what happened, she really shouldn't have been.
7540382
Indeed I have.
As a matter of fact, you commented on my version of the story not even 24 hours ago.
Just gonna go ahead and put that out there.
I wrote a comment on a blog post awhile back, talking about how I don't consider Sunset's relationship with the humane 5 to be a true friendship.
If I remember the ending to the first movie correctly, they only accepted Sunset into their circle because of Twilight.
If it wasn't for Twilight then they probably would have left her alone without a second thought.
However, since it's a cartoon geared towards small children, they'll always give the audience a "happy" ending, even if it doesn't always make any sort of logical sense.
All of that aside, the one thing that I find slightly more baffling than Sunset's "friendship" is the fact that the girls (human and pony) insist on staying friends with Rainbow.
Sometimes I really don't think that she deserves her element.
Like ... at all.
7540492
...... I obviously do not pay nearly enough attention to usernames. Yeah, embarrassed myself there.
7540817
Ha, no worries man
7540296
One must remember that Twilight's mentor has on several occasions had to put her heart aside and do what she knew to be right. Twilight sometimes tries too hard to be like Celestia that is not to say Celestia is a bad pony in any sense merely that how she would've handled things is not always right. It comes down to Twilight had a choice when Sunset ran away she had the choice of either being a friend or a princess...
She chose.
7540961
There isn't a right or wrong answer in this particular situation.
The funny thing is that by choosing duty over friendship, she might have just inadvertently doomed the very people that she abandoned Sunset in order to protect.
I love the irony!
YES! AN UPDATE! I love this story, it appears that Sunset is still herself even after putting on the pendant, It has to be Rainbow that said "Traitor" I'm really hoping for a guitar solo faceoff between Rainbow and Sunset, I want Sunset to blow her away. I hope Sunset stands up to her so called 'friends' and Twilight to realize that she made a grave mistake. I'm guessing the rainbooms are going to be shaken up by this turn of events, and they'll be arguing amongst themselves on who is to blame for Sunset joining the Dazzlings. their infighting will produce the negative energy necessary for the Dazzlings to reach their full power and takeover the school, and Sunset won't be there to save them.
7540961 You know, this isn't the first time she chose her status over her friends. Remember the season 4 opener with the plundervines? She left her friends in order to protect herself. True it was at their request and they gave her a compelling argument, but it's only when they stick together can they have any hope of saving the day.
It seems that history is about to repeat.
Well this outta be good.
Yes! It is alive!
7541649 ...and after that, the Rainbooms would decide to not be friends with each other anymore, thus effectively breaking up the band! Plus, I think Twilight would have this to say about the Rainbooms:
Not only that, but I can also assume that the Rainbooms would be punished for the way they had treated each other with their infighting:
1. Applejack - I think she might have brought shame and disgrace to her family. So much, in fact, that she could get deemed the "rotten apple" in her family. Plus, Apple Bloom would not want to have AJ as her sister anymore after what she did.
2. Rainbow Dash - Her parents, and her sister figure Scootaloo, will give her a VERY angry earful, effectively meaning that she loses her family's trust in her. Also, I am pretty sure that she is also liable to lose her sports privileges after the way she acted.
3. Rarity - Not only would she get called out on her behavior by her parents, but she could also be in danger of losing her sister Sweetie Belle, who might coldly disown her after the way she acted during the Battle of the Bands. In addition, her reputation as "Canterlot's finest fashion designer" could wind up suffering some major damage after the fiasco.
4. Fluttershy - Her parents would be shocked and appalled at the way she had behaved during the Battle of the Bands. Also, I think that the animals that she owns might start to lose faith in her as their caretaker.
5. Pinkie Pie - As far as I am concerned, her parents and sisters are likely to be disappointed in her for her bad behavior. Well, let me just say that she'd have to kiss her days of fun, happiness and parties goodbye.
Finally, for what it's worth, I think Principal Celestia would tell the Rainbooms that all five of its members would serve detention with her.
Do you think all of this sounds like a good idea, or am I being too harsh on the Rainbooms?
7560522 Unfortunately I don't see this happening, Applebloom, Sweetie belle and Scootaloo will be happy that their sisters and sister figures have parted ways from Sunset and her joining the Dazzlings is further roof to them and everyone at CHS that she hasn't changed. Remember that everyone hates Sunset Shimmer, nobody but her so called friends even cares about her. Principle Celestia and vice principle Luna are under the Sirens spell and they brushed off her warnings, so I don't see anyone chastising the rainbooms for what they did. But the greater the anger and hate CHS emits the more power the Dazzlings get. so basically the sirens won the moment Sunset joined them in more ways than one.
7561719 Can it still be possible that Twilight would say that her friends have "turned into complete jerks" after the way the Rainbooms would get argumentative toward one another and blame each other for Sunset joining the Dazzlings?
7562039 I think Twilight will be busy feeling down that she made the wrong choice in not going after Sunset to apologize, so the rainbooms will continue to blame each other and my guess is that the majority of the finger pointing will be towards Rainbow Dash.
7561719 But IMO after reading the whole fic up to this point, I just hope it doesn't go down the way I can't help but keep feeling it's gonna go. Which is the cliche thing of Adagio talked to Sunset into joining them only for her to turn on Sunset after she found good use of Sunset for them. You know, like what Tirek did to Discord in Twilight's Kingdom.
7582798 Maybe, but Sunset is now connected with the sirens through the pendants so Adagio can't betray Sunset and even if the rainbooms managed to defeat them (I highly doubt it, since they no longer have Sunset on their side.) Sunset has to go with the Sirens since she can no longer stay in CHS anymore. Essentially Adagio still wins, with Sunset by their side the rainbooms won't have the power necessary to beat the Dazzlings and the Dazzlings are more powerful with the addition of Sunset. And if the rainbooms beat them (Again unlikely) Sunset will still be with the sirens and since she still has her magic, she can repair their pendants.
It's interesting to see where you go from here. After all, the only thing that can happen is the Sirens win.
If this is Rainbow who said that I know a Stormtrooper she would get along with.
