Imperaxum

Gott schützen den Kaiser!

E

Scootaloo languishes in a museum of oddities, both a trophy of Earth Pony superiority and the lesser races' inferiority.

Written six hours before the deadline of the week-long contest by the Rage Reviews group, F*** THIS PROMPT #11.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It was rather grim, yes, but it didn't rub my face in it. And despite the setting, it came off rather heartwarming. Even the abomination breaking the supposedly impervious ceiling lends an air of hope, defying the alleged eternity of earth pony rule. (After all, unless this is a very alternate universe indeed, someone has to provide the weather and move the sun and moon. And those ponies can go on strike...)

7302039 Thank you for the comment! I'm rather gladdened that you noticed the abomination-ceiling thing. It is a fairly optimistic story, even with the implied setting of inter-tribal violence that I use in a lot of these prompts - and while it's partially because I had very little time to write this, I do like to put in a lot of not-grim little facets in a slightly darker world. The secret love between a unicorn clerk/slave and earth pony museum guard, the Guide not being a sadist like he could easily be in this kind of story - and more broadly, ponies not continuously spewing angst over their grim world and making do with what they've got.

Okay: now that the contest is over you simply must expand on this universe!

I'd kinda like to see a sequel where this 'Earth Pony Empire' is overthrown, it just rubs me the wrong way...

No offense, it's still a really awesome story.

Eh.

I honestly don't know why this doesn't have more reads/upvotes than it does. This is a very original and well done story.

Good story, but I'm not sure I believe in the setting (although an explicit AH where the tribes never united and the Earth Ponies had their own country to develop tech unhindered would help). [1]

Cannon would seem to be less than effective against simply non-physical beings like the Tantabus. (Or cloud-form Sombra, if that's him in the opposite cage). Daily blood tests for everyone to deal with the Changeling problem? And of course Discord has to simply be put entirely out of bounds, as in most post-"Keep Calm and Flutter On" fanfic. But I suppose we can't take the Pony state employee's statements on the Total and Totally Non-Magical Earth Pony Victory as an entirely reliable source.

[1] Or this guy leading the Earth Ponies. :pinkiecrazy:

I like this AU. Kind of heart-warming in a dark way. Agreed with Fan's comments entirely, they put it best. I tend to go with the flow and thus tend to forget certain things that I shouldn't.

If you happen to continue this sort of universe, I'd love to read it :3
