The first thing I became aware was that I was laying on something soft and warm. It smelled... nice and clean.
So comfortable. I didn't want my brain to engage, but memories and thoughts came in by their own, pushing the soft fluffy half asleep state away.
Fight. Tirek.
Luna!
I jerked up, my eyes flashing open. I was in bed in our room. The door to the balcony was open so was the windows, the night outside was dark, lit by the stars and moon far above.
The room looked like it always did, lit by only a couple of lit candles.
“Page,” A voice said to my left and I twisted before smiling and feeling myself relax.
“Luna,” I breathed and shifted close to her, leaning against her side, first not noticing her wing across my back, “I'm so glad you are safe.”
“You are glad I'm okay?” She asked, raising a eyebrow as she closed the book she had been reading, leaning against me softly in turn, nuzzling at my ear, “You stupid, stupid pony,” she said softly and sniffled softly as she pressed her head against my neck, my coat turning wet, “I thought I lost you!”
“I thought I was going to lose you,” I answered quietly as I nuzzled at her mane, “I couldn't stand back anymore than you could if I was in danger.”
She let out a small breath against my mane in turn and just stayed like that, “Seeing you in his grasp like that...”
I leaned against her, resting my head against her neck. No words were needed. I was just so happy she was alright.
Luna shifted after a long moment and gave me a small soft kiss, “How are you feeling?”
“I'm fine,” I answered, shifting my legs, “I remember breaking a couple of bones, but I feel fine. How long was I out?”
“A couple of days, it took a lot out of you.”
I frowned and nodded, looking at my left frontleg, “Well, my compliment to the doctor. I can't even tell my leg was broken.”
Luna looked amused and nodded, “It did heal rather well.”
“How is everyone? Celestia? Cadence? Everyone else?”
She smiled at that, “They are all fine. I traded off with my sister to keep watch over you a couple of hours ago,” before she sighed, “There are some casualties and a lot of injuries, but things could have been a lot worse. He didn't go out of his way to kill anyone, thank the stars.”
“And Discord?”
“He has been nowhere to be seen since Tirek's defeat,” Luna explained before she pulled back and frowned down at me, “How did you manage it? We couldn't see.”
I smirked at that, “I took some help by Sunset Shimmer and shrunk as many swords and spears as we could as small as possible. I tied them as ornaments to my necklace. When he absorbed the magic, they returned to their real size.”
Luna stared at me for a long moment, “...You planned to get caught so he would drain you.”
“Mhmm.”
“...So that's what did it. You stupid, stupid pony. That was so risky.”
“Only thing I could think of. He protected his face when attacked by the guard, he still had weak spots.”
She shook her head and nuzzled at the base of my horn, “Stupid,” before she sighed, “And insanely lucky and brave.”
“I agree with the second one, “ I told her with a smile, “I'm with you, aren't I?”
That got a small giggle from her and she pulled back, “Hungry?”
I was about to say no, but my stomach disagreed and rumbled loudly enough to be heard somewhere over in the Crystal Empire.
“...Apparently, yes,” I admitted with a small cringe.
Luna nodded and jumped off the bed, “I'll send for something.”
Damn, now when she mentioned food, I was so hungry. The wing across my back shifted and I looked over at Luna as she headed towards the door.
What?
I turned my head and looked only to freeze and stare. Why do I have wings? They looked pegasus like. What in the actual...
I tried moving them. They kinda twitched.
Reaching up with my hoof, I touched my head. Yep, that was still a horn.
“I did wonder how long it would take before you noticed, My Page,” Luna said and jumped up to lay onto the bed next to me.
“I... uhm... wha... how?” I finally managed to ask as I stared at the wings.
Luna smiled and touched my chin, giving me a small kiss on the tip of my muzzle, “Remember when we talked about Alicorns and dark magic?”
I nodded.
“You tricked Tirek, My Page,” she explained softly as she looked into my eyes, “You created a world, a story. You lived your cutie mark and at that moment you embodied it. When Tirek died there was an extremely powerful magical surge as all the magic he had absorbed rushed out to return to where it came from. You were straight in the middle of all that magic.”
“Oh,” was all I could say, swallowing before I shook my head, “I... I think I'm going to lay down for a while.”
“You are laying down, love.”
“Oh. Goody.”
Hazaah Just as I predicted. I hope this goes a ways for Sunset's redemption with Celestia.
Oh goody indeed
Edit: he kinda Loki'ed his way to the top with this one. I like it
Fuck yes! Also to all those who are going to complain... Nuts to you, this is awesome. Hiver, your stories rock.
all hail (lord) Lord Page!
normally i hate seeing alicorn pro-tags but in this case i am really rather interested in seeing what happens. luna's explanation also helps alot cause at first i was like so living his cutie mark equals wings question mark oh wait getting blasted in the face by most of the equestian's magic yep that will probally bring about alicornerism
He is quite shocked to his core, though being an Alicorn only makes his interactions with others worse now. We wonder how his friends or even those he had met previously will act towards him now? Because it will be quite shocking to hear of the first Stallion Alicorn in so long, mares will be throwing themselves at his hooves. Think of heat season and petitions to be bred by him?
Also EVERY single reaction he'll have from now on.
Page has earned it.
You didn't like Lord. Let's see how you do with Prince
Alicorn of Genre Savvy.
Lord knows they need one.
7399367 Instead of 'Lord' it is now 'Prince' Page, also his humbleness will only have others feel greater respect for him still. Also Celestia might be jelly.
Overall, I saw the possibility. It's a logical progression and a reasonable explanation was given. But I'm a little disappointed he's an Alicorn. Page was interesting because he was an ordinary person in extraordinary situations. Now, he's essentially a demigod. It takes away a little of what makes the reader relate to him.
7399380 Relatable doesn't equal good...
Characters can be relatable, but are they going to be good?
“Oh. Goody.”
The Alicorn of Sarcasm anyone?
Yay no sad luna!
Dont give us that look, Page. Use genre-savvy to steal a new Princess' thunder long enough and you'll get to figure out how to live with Alicornhood like she is forced to.
Oh well, at least she will still have her Library to live in thanks to you, and not a cold monstrosity that looks like a villain's lair, that even she didn't want to come home to...
hope that he doesn't know have ultimate power. Just so long as he retains the same amount of magic prowess, mabey a small boost in refinement, I'm fine with his 'progression'..... just no OP please.
7399413 Well there may still be a chance that castle will happen regardless, all that is needed is another 'different' key. Though Page will be seen as 'Hunk of the Millennium', in many publications and petitions to have his foals.
7399416 You have to understand, he and Twilight are 'Young' Alicorns. Unlike Celestia and Luna, he'll likely progress over a longer period of time which may take a couple of mortal generations to be able to say 'move the life sustaining bodies above'. But that only means he has more time to learn new things or see the world with Luna.
I am content with his ascension. I kind of saw it coming and I'm not nearly as offset by it as I am in most other fics. It was handled well and I think I know {I've been reading for quite some time now} your style of writing {at least this story} well enough that I'm not worried. I very eagerly await the rest of this story and anything else you decide to write. It is quite literally the highlight of my mornings, waking up and knowing you'll have updated.
Wow. No Rainbow Power, no new castle, no reformed Discord... We're entering uncharted territory!
7399394
Already taken
Taken by TD.
7399357
Probably will.
7399361
Woot!
7399378
The blind leading the brain dead... Lord help us...
7399379
It's a positive feedback loop; Page is nice, Ponies are nice to him, he starts saying I'm not better than you as a Lord, Ponies treat him like one due to it.
7399380
I've read books about extraordinary people doing amazing things and still be able to relate with them. In comparison I've seen some characters with normal or tragic backgrounds be more of an edge Lord than a red and black OC.
7399387
that was still cheap, he did not created any story by any means or did anything cutie mark/''destiny'' related. Magical vortex I can buy but still ''living your cutie mark'' is pretty meaningless.
Oh, come on. Seriously? That's just horrible.
Yay!
Seen that coming. Very satisfactory outcome!
Equestria now has a Prince who used to be a human - apparently a bit of rationality was introduced into ruling circle.
7399442
There is an implication here that is rather interesting, if taken at face value, that Page did exactly what Luna claimed he did.
Page thought his original talent was for writing. It's true that it came easier for him, but he also found out he has a talent for dreamwalking, too. With that talent, he could create worlds without involving a single word. But here, he didn't write a single word. He didn't visualize a scene either like when he dreamwalks. He did some bad acting, so acting wasn't part of it either. He did setup the scenario, but it also required Tirek and the others to react in a certain way.
What if his talent influenced the actions of other, such that they played along with his imagined scenario? In the same way that musical numbers could pop up out of nowhere, Page used his ability to affect the plot itself. A semi-meta manipulation, because he can't affect the plot of his own story (it was cheesy for us to witness), he can affect the plots that others play by.
Am I making any sense? I suppose a similar comparison would be a (much weaker) variation of Anon's power in Not The Hero.
7399431
Twilight's gonna turn evil trying to open dat box now though so better keep a friendship nuke warmed up and ready
7399416 Even if he does become powerful it won't much affect what Hiver actually does with the story. You gotta remember this series is like 95% slice of life, 5% action.
I like to think that to become an alicorn one must fully realise ones cute mark and be exposed to a lot of magic.
No, seriously, this was horrible. It barely even makes sense. What he did has absolutely nothing to do with his butt mark. He told him no story whatsoever. He didn't even lie to him. Alicorns should be popping up all over the place like so many weeds if all it took was a heroic and stupid last stand like that. Could you just not think of a way for him to actually get his immortality that wasn't a deus ex machina or something?
7399489 I know, but what I don't want is for every conflict to be solved with 'i am an Alicorn'. A great part of slice of life and in particular this story, Page's clever solutions, with little ability, but high intelligence. I just don't want to see all conflicts Gary Stu'd.
Page... The Prince of Books.
7399493 I don't really agree with this opinion here, and think Hiver did it well, but regardless of what you feel here - this story still has the incomplete tag on it. Wait for the author to explain it, and develop this plot line more. Hiver has had over 130,000 words building up to this point, over three novel length pieces. This is not his first rodeo.
Also, really?
This is no worse/stupider then what canon did with Twilight.
7399495 If you really believe that Hiver is going to do that, then you clearly lack faith in his ability as an author and should probably close this tab and never look at this story again.
So i'm assuming that it took some magic to make Page an alicorn, so that means that there are a few poor bastards out there without any magic.
Damn... that must suck.
Anyway I enjoyed his ascension, and heres hoping that there will be a chapter of him realizing he won't have to 'leave' Luna... or maybe just a conversation?
7399502
That isn't much of a compliment, you know.
7399493
Or, here's a thought, it has absolutely nothing to do with his cutie mark (and is a blind flailing on the sister's part trying to find justification that fits their world-views) and has everything to do with, you know, being the path of least resistance for at least half the magic in Equestria. That sort of thing has understandable side effects, much like standing on the 'containment' lid of chernobyl when it went 'blup'. Granted, given the cuddly sugar death bowl that Equestria is, those consequences (including the likely magical vaporization from proximity) do have beneficial side effects instead of instantaneous extra super turbo death like the example would have.
7399506 I don't lack in his ability as a writer. If I'm coming across as that then I sincerely apologise, quick context I have mild phycopathy meaning I sometimes misread and miss communicate emotions.
What my worry was was that I didn't want page to fin himself in a world where he no longer has problems, becuase everyone just follows a princes will and want.
It was more a worry on the characters future, not that the writer would Gary Stu Page through life.
7399474 It is too clique to find your destiny etc.
The main problem is amount of ponies who are embodying their cutie marks for all their life long and among all the ponies who have lived over a thousand years only 5 of them achieve alicorndom. Statistically Page achieving alicorndom is bullshit.
If your statement would be true the amount of ponies achieving alicorndom would be much higher but it is not.
It is also immensely disappointing thing that he had to risk his life that simply shows the incapability of ponies. Lots of people charge head on the unwinnable conflicts with their ideals why should be Page any different of them. He is just a one among many who have in past faced bigger trials, why should anything be different for him.
That simply shows he is not special, or important or he embraced his destiny. That he was simply luck to be near high source of magic with right state of mind. It also indicates that the similiar conditions can be achieved through artificial means and alicorns can be more common, all one have to do is saturate ponies magic while they do what they normally do.
Using destiny or fate or prophecy is always a very cheap tactic in any story and that triggers me immensely.
7399510 what canon did with twillight was extremely stupid and cheap way to sell new toys
well...he can fly now....
The first intelligent alicorn has been born! And does Celestia have any feelings towards Page? Afteral, it was Celestia that wanted to give up where all the magic went. She didn't want to lose Page it seems.
I have the sensation that the ascension is a bit rushed, and even if I am not entirely happy with it, let's see how it turns out!
I am also interested about what discord is up to
7399495 Really need to stop throwing around Gary Stu and Mary Sue....
It's like people throwing Fascist and Apartheid around without considering the implications or their real meanings...
7399493 Think of it as more like Imagination/Creativity and less on must tell stories. That was a bit too literal and we know that cutie mark can be interpreted in a lot of ways.
Edit: Beside...We can also interpret it as Page living in a story and he is influencing his story as a "writer".
not the direction i expected this to go..... but it has potential.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ6kOvO1SUE
Called it!
7399562
That's both a massive stretch and not nearly what the story actually said, either.
Such emotions on both sides of the matter it would seem.
Honestly, ground zero for a magical blast from the death of Tirek, who was laden with essentially a nuclear-sized amount of Equestrian magic that was released in essentially a massive wave? I could see that being a cause. The living his own story bit does draw a bit meta, however there are many worse ways to ascend an OC to alicorn status.
I think as far as they go, this is definitely one of the better ones with a somewhat believable base, even if a lot of folks think that the main appeal of Page was the simple fact that he was a 'normal' pony. Although, really, he was never really all that normal in the first place, a lot of people seem to forget.
Either way, I know that I'm looking forward to the rest of this story and the next, as it seems Page's story isn't over just yet.
