It’s been several months since Starlight Glimmer put her past behind her and had become Twilight’s student, but when she goes with Rarity to seek forgiveness for what she had done she is stunned when she learns what has happened to her old town.

Now, she must revisit her past to save her old town, and her old friends at any cost.

--------------------------------
Note: I know in the show she returns to her old town in Season 5’s finale, but I don’t care, I think they wasted an awesome opportunity for an entire episode where she returns to her old town.

Huge thanks to jeray2000 for being my editor, he's a fantastic editor and I couldn't have finished my story without him.

This is a niftty little story. Rarity was a good choice for this since she WOULD pull a stunt like this. Good thing it wasn't done to Applejack. She wouldn't have spoken to Rarity for a wee! :rainbowlaugh: That being said Starlight was surprisingly understanding about this... Guess I'm so use to people from the SDDF group that it just crossed my mind as such.

Great start, but don't keep me waiting!...... ZZzzzzzzzzzz.....

7264354 Haha, don't worry I'll be uploading chapter 3 tomorrow.

Starlight had joked earlier that under her leadership this would’ve never happened. After all, under her rule, everypony knew their place and everything was organized.

Which is funny mainly because under her leadership, those set to do the job were forced to be only be as capable as the least capable pony in town. As was everypony else, so you couldn't even replace them with those better suited.

“Of coarse. You really are great when you’re not trying to brainwash any pony.”

You mean 'course'? Coarse is what you would use to describe a rock

enjoying it so far though

Wow Rarity, 'course it'd be you of all ponies who'd do that!:rainbowlaugh:
And why does the description of that wall remind me of WWll in Germany with the Berlin Wall?:twilightsheepish:

I don't have Pinkie Sense, but that last line is full of foreboding.:facehoof:

Oh good lord its the north child and the south child tantrum syndrom:rainbowhuh:e again! :rainbowlaugh: Oh, Starlight has her work cutout for her and and Rarity.I wonder what DD means by his comment? Soon... Hmmm...

Things are snowballing downhill, I can see it clear as day.

This story is getting even more interesting!

Why do I have a feeling she has a scrying device in her old home?

7271068 Well I kinda wanted it to something where you'll read it and think 'Oh wow that makes total sense, how did I not see that coming'.

Oh come on! What happened!?! I wanna know! You can't keep me hanging with cliffhangers forever.:raritydespair:

OH! Stuffs about to get real! Or they could just be making a cake? Yeah... cake...

Nothing suspicious there.

Good thing Starlight had that secret room otherwise this might end up worse.

:twilightoops: Oh god, this will end badly...

The potion brewing reminded me of Say Goodbye to the holiday.

fantastic little story you have here!it is one great read! well done!

7273506 Thank you, I spent a lot of time on it. Though, I still think I have much room for improvement and hope to get better just by writing more fanfics.

Wait so not poison so they, what? Man! :raritydespair: What is Star thinking? If not poison than what? Argh, its like watching TV back without DVR and having to sit through commercials between intervals.

Still it was good and I still wonder what happened to flame heart, and I have money bet on they found a way to remove cutie marks or they're offing themselves. I can't think of anything else.

Can you say suicide pact? I knew you could.

Woah, back up, is the entire north gonna commit SUICIDE?!?!

7279079 How should I know.... Oh wait, I wrote it. Yea I guess I do know what happens, but you won't until tomorrow.:raritydespair:

7281213 Oh dear indeed. I can't believe what DD just did. :fluttercry:

7281361 I can believe it. This is part of why addictions are so nasty. They believe thigns were better before and will do anything to bring those times back

7281478 I know! But when you read about it, I know its totally meta, but it drives me nuts knowing that it'll cause some sort of hardship down the line. You know what I mean? Even if it's a story you can't help but think, 'why did you do that?' like in movies when you know whats going to happen and tell the character not to do it knowing its what they're going to do? Did that make any sense at all?

:pinkiehappy:This story is already on my favorites list!

One question, can a pony Who has been brainwashed recognize they are brainwashed?

I'm really wondering why this doesn't get more attention. It is amazing and well written and I stumbled on it by pure accident.

Rarity is doing a little bit of a good job at being sneaky. Too bad she doesn't seem to have planned this out very well because unless she somehow sent a message along to Twilight to play along as well, Starlight is going to find out.

Besides, Rarity could have just asked Twilight to make it a Friendship lesson for Starlight to return to her village again. That would have been a lot easier!

The smell had wafted through the air and persuaded her off course from several stalls away and she stood awkwardly hovering over the basket of beautifully browned muffins stuffed with brightly colored blueberries and strawberries. It was a sight she hadn’t seen in years and nothing had ever looked quite so appetizing.

I'll bet. It could be the worse bakery in town and it'd still be heaven compared to Sugar Belle's muffins :derpyderp2:

Haha, Rarity's attempts at getting Starlight to return to her old haunt were practically bush-league. At least Starlight didn't rage and decide to go all destroyer-of-worlds at being forced into coming back to Our Town.

A little bit odd though to see that origin story, since it makes however Starlight acquired her Staff of Sameness a little bit more fishy. I guess she had to develop the spell on her own and then later spin a yarn about going off to find a so-called artifact.

Well, given the cover art it looks like Double Diamond will play a fairly outsized role in the rest of the fic, sooooo...well, he WAS pretty much Starlight's trusted lieutenant and the most hardcore of them, right up until it was revealed Starlight had kept her Cutie Mark.

I'm surprised they haven't achieved some level of self-sufficiency in Our Town yet if they still have to go get basic food supplies from other places. Though I suppose with the town split in half nopony's quite willing to put in the work when the talents they need are on the other side still.

I'm guessing Starlight has something set up in her old cabin for her backup plan. Hopefully it's not 'let's start sucking away ponies' Cutie Marks to bow them into submission to find out what's going on' or something. Maybe it'll be a general-purpose sweeper that lets her search and detect Cutie Marks or something like that, something to help her find the missing pony.

So, what? Something to blow up the south side of town? Or maybe even more malicious, something that gets rid of Cutie Marks, permanently. Now that would be a twist. Starlight's gonna have to get busy recruiting Double Diamond onto her side to find out what the potion does exactly.

On a note, her monitoring room shouldn't be that covered in dust compared to her house. After all, the monitoring room would be far more heavily sealed due to it being secret, so there shouldn't be that much air leakage inside carrying dirt and dust particles in over time.

Yeah, hopefully he North didn't decide to literally drink the Kool-Aid. Something to remove their Cutie Marks that's potion-based instead of spell-based is my guess.

Ha, looks like I called it. They were making a potion to duplicate the effects of Starlight's spell, since it's not like she decided to teach it to anypony anyways. I wonder if it has as many side-effects as the Equalisation spell did, or if it will leave them with their vitality fully intact.

Looks like that's where our missing pony went to, hiding out in the North side.

Well, I guess Starlight is technically right about not needing the potion anymore, but I wonder if we'll see her called upon to fulfill her pledge that anypony who wants things the old way can still have it the old way - by dumping the potion, she might think she can convince everypony otherwise, but Starlight might yet have to use her spell again. Well, she can probably refine it first so it doesn't have nasty side effects.

It looks like what the North and the South really needed was an honest broker. Unfortunately, Starlight didn't fit the bill to the North until the very end, and of course Rarity would have been absolutely shunned flat-out by the North as well.

Now go chase after DD, Starlight, and make-up as leader and trusted lieutenant. Or something. Their relationship is still something chronically underexplored, and I held off on reading this until I could get my own GlimmerDiamond fics out first to avoid being biased by other fics.

Nice and sappy for a close-to-ending, though there's obviously still a chapter or two to go. It doesn't quite feel like Starlight and Double Diamond talked enough as it is in this chapter, besides the whole thing about Double Diamond feeling out of place and useless over being an Earth pony. I think there could have been some more done towards reconciling the two prior, or at least the two of them talking out their past as leader and second-in-command of Our Town, but that can still be done in the next chapter.

Starlight feels to me like she's still mildly manipulating Double Diamond, in the sense of when she talks about how he's technically alone by being the only pony with the Equal Mark now which singles him out and makes him unequal. It's not so much defeating his idea of equality as it is pointing out that he'll be lonely with nopony else to share it with him.
