Sunset Shimmer placed the last book with its spine facing out on the shelf the same way he had done the rest, to her pleasure, this was the last book which she would see for the rest of the night. She walked over the the exit of the Canterlot High library were her friend Twilight Sparkle had been waiting for her, a grin on her face and a book in hand.

“Thanks again for helping me re-shelf the books in the library Sunset,” Twilight said with a grateful smile as she held the door open for the flame headed girl.

“No problem Twilight,” Sunset responded as she and her friend walked down the dimly let halls of their high-school. Sunset pulled out her phone to get a time estimate. “Whoa,” she exclaimed as she flipped open the cellular device, “Its already 9:00, I should have guessed re-shelving the whole library would take this long.”

“Do you have a way home?” Twilight asked her friend as they neared the entrance of the high-school. “Because if not I can give you a ride.” Twilight donned a sheepish grin when she questioned her friend.

“Sure,” Sunset replied with a sight giggle as the two stopped in front of the entrance doors. Sunset and Twilight both raised a hand to open the a door but found that they wouldn't budge. Sunset tried applying slightly more force, assuming that the doors were just stuck again as they often are and figure they'd open upon doing so. After several failed attempts Sunset let out a sigh and scrunched her nose in displease, “Great, its after school hours and the doors have been locked already.”

“Its alright, we can't be the only ones here. I'm sure there's a janitor or someone here that must have a key.” Twilight motioned for Sunset to follow her as she continued down a hallway lined with lockers. Canterlot High wasn't a frightening place on its own, but after school hours and no other people around, the building practically screamed horror; not to mention the exaggerating linger of silence with the exception being the light footsteps of the two teens. Several of the lights were still on which made Sunset assume that someone had to be around, if not, then surely the lights would remain on throughout the entire night.

CLANK!

Both Sunset and Twilight practically jumped out of their skins when the heard the loud slamming of a door coming from around the corner. The slamming was followed by the light jingle of keys which brought the color flowing back into both girl's faces. Poking their heads around a corner, a silhouette of a man could be seen, he was of medium build and wore what looked to be a hat, a fedora at that. The man had just shut and locked the door to a janitor's closet as he picked up a bucket and mop and continued down the hallway in silence.

“See? I told you,” Twilight said with a smug grin. “All we have to do is ask that nice janitor if he could unlock the door for us.”

“I wasn't even aware that CHS even had a janitor,” Sunset said with a hint of skepticism detected in her voice. “But I guess magic can't be the reason behind everything at this school, I mean, magic isn't going to keep our halls clean,” she admitted with laugh.

Twilight was the first to round the corner with Sunset following closely behind. Seeing that the man was still in sight, Twilight made an attempt to capture his attention. “Excuse me, sir,” she called to the man as she waved an arm over her head. “Me and my friend got locked in here, and we were just wondering if you could let us out?” The man rounded another set of lockers and disappeared out of sight.

“Rude much?” Sunset snorted in annoyance as her and Twilight scurried down the hall.

“He probably just didn't hear me, that's all. We'll just catch up to him so he can hear me better.” Twilight and Sunset appeared to be hot on the trail of the janitor, however, when they turned down the new hallway they found no one in sight. Both girls were confused at first, until Sunset Shimmer caught sight of something off in the distance.

“There!” Sunset exclaimed as she pointed to the man's hat which was in the process of descending a small flight of stairs. The girls quickly followed behind only to be met with an old rusty door at the bottom of the stairs; the door was slightly bigger than any other doors at CHS and was also heavier, requiring both students to push in order to even make the door move an inch. “You would think that the school would replace this door, it looks and feels like its been here for years.”

Upon the opening of the old door, the two girls found themselves in an area which seemed to lack sufficient lighting, except for a mysterious red glow which illuminated from an unknown source; there was also a thick blanket of smoke which snuck out from the numerous pipes and boilers in the room.

“Where are we?” Twilight asked her friend as they slowly and regrettably entered the strange new area.

“I'm not entirely sure,” Sunset admitted as she stopped for a moment to examine her surroundings. “I think it's like the school basement or something, but its no part of the school I've ever seen before.”

“It looks like some sort of boiler room, but why would a place like this be under the school?”

“Lets just find that janitor so he can unlock the exit for us and we can go home,” Sunset shuddered slightly, it was as if a cool chill hung in the air. The flame haired teen was also getting a strange feeling like her and her friend were being watched. “This place gives me the creeps.”

“Your telling me,” Twilight commented as she hugged the back of Sunset's shoulders and gripped them firmly.

Leading the way, Sunset continued down the narrow path of the room, her boots making stomping noises as she trampled over the steel grid-like floor which rested under her and Twilight's feet. As Sunset turned a corner of the corridor, she could hear something in the distance, her ears tried to focus on the crackling and popping which she swore was coming up ahead of her. The shadows of the pipes danced around Sunset as she approached the noise, she came to a dead end with a burning hearth of metal; she watched, almost mesmerized as the flames tangoed with one another in bliss. The flame's dance was interrupted by a maniacal laughter which traveled throughout the room until it pierced Sunset's eardrums, the teen turned around quickly to find herself alone.

“T-Twilight?” Sunset stammered as a look of fear overcame her, she could feel the goosebumps on her arms begin to form as a cold chill ran down her spine. “Twilight where'd you go?” Sunset awaited a response from her friend as the fear inside her began to set in. “Twilight if this is your idea of a joke its not funny!” Genuine fear and anger mixed into the teen's expression as she turned a corner and continued down the way she came.

Sunset started off with a brisk walk, then to a run, from a run to a full on sprint. Her heart pounding as more maniacal laughter could be heard, Sunset tried to pinpoint were it was coming from but it prove to be near impossible; it sounded as far, yet she swore she felt it whispering in her ear at the same time. With the exit now in sight, Sunset ran towards it as fast as she could, not even concerning herself now with the whereabouts of her friend. As she neared her only escape to freedom, the large rusted door slammed shut, sealing the teenage girl's fate. Sunset Shimmer tried to pull the door open, but there was no good place for her to grip the rusty behemoth. After her many failed tries, Sunset began to pound on the door and cried out for assistance.

“Hello!? Twilight!? Anybody!? Please, someone open this door! I'm trapped in here! HELLO!?” Sunset's pleas were silence as a sharp grinding noise pierced her ears, it sounded as though someone was scratching a chalkboard and taking great pleasure in making the painful noise. Sunset cupped her ears in an attempt to block out the agonizing sound which only seemed to increase in volume, it was then that Sunset realized the sound wasn't getting louder, it was getting closer. She slowly turned around, her ears still cupped, as she witnessed a horrific sight. Standing at the opposite end of the hallway-like passage was the silhouette of a man; Sunset couldn't make out any distinguishing features on the man aside from his fedora and his right hand, the tips of his fingers seemed to extend into sharp razor blades. The man slowly approached Sunset with his right hand on the pipes which lined the wall of the passageway, as sparks flew from the friction between his blade and the pipes, it was then that Sunset learned what was making the awful screeching. “Can you please stop!” Sunset pleaded as she still covered her ears.

“Oh but sunny,” the man began in a sadistic tone as he scratched the pipes more aggressively, “I'm only just getting STARTED! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!” The man began to pick up his pace as he drew nearer to his victim. Sunset detected a feeling of malice and began to pound on the door once more, this time, with a force greater than her original.

“TWILIGHT! SOMEBODY! PLEASE, HE'S COMING!” Sunset cried out at the top of her lungs as she banged on the door and begged for help, the man's laughter almost seemed to drown out her screams. “PLEASE! SOMEONE OPEN THIS DOOR! HE'S GOING TO KILL ME!” Just as tears of fear began to form in Sunset's eyes, her prayers were answered as she fell face first. She looked up from where she lay to see the door was now open and a senior looking man in a gray jumpsuit was staring down at her with a confused yet concerning expression on his face.

“Ma'am are you alright!?” the janitor exclaimed as the fear stricken girl jumped to her feet and shook him by his shoulders.

“Please! You have to help me! He's trying to kill me!” Sunset said as she tried to explain herself to the senior.

“Ma'am just calm down, who's trying to kill you?”

“It was a man with a hat and these razor claws. He-he's right--” Sunset froze completely as she turned around to point to her pursuer; but when she did, all she pointed to was a closet filled with brooms, soap, and other janitorial cleaning supplies. “He.......he was just right there! I swear it!”

“Its alright kid, you've obviously just been wrapped up in a comic book or somethin and lost track of time.”

“What!!? NO!? I'm telling you there was a man with these like razors on his fingers and he made a scratching noise that sounded...like....like....” Sunset stammered as she tried to abandon whatever fear still remained in her and explain to the janitor what she had experienced; but words could not explain what she had been through. “He had scratched on the walls and....and he made this like awful scrapping noise that sounded like.....like.....”

“Like this?”

Sunset watched as the janitor raised his right hand to expose a glove of some kind which was created with metal joints and long sharp blades at the edge of where his fingers ended. He began to slowly drag the blades down the front side of a locker, Sunset covered her ears once more as the painful shrill scrapping sound returned followed by the loud evil laugh that accompanied with it. Without another word nor a moment to spare, Sunset pushed past the janitor and ran down the hallway. Even though she knew the front entrance doors were locked, she still ran back to them, she had to get away no matter what. With the speed of Rainbow Dash, Sunset bolted for the exit without looking back, to her pleasure all she could hear coming from behind her was the man's insane laughter which faded the farther she ran from it. Within a matter of moments, Sunset was back at the school's main entrance doors, to which she wasted no time in trying to open.

“Come on! COME ON!” Fear and frustration were not emotions that Sunset usually felt very often, yet here they were, standing hand-in-hand as the teen tried profoundly make her escape. “OPEN DAMN IT OPEN!” Sunset pounded with the last of her strength against the immovable doors before slumping down on her knees and pressing her head against the glass and staring out at the statue in front of the school. “Twilight...” As Sunset kept her face to the glass, she heard a voice beckon her name which brought back the fear she thought she had gotten rid of.

Sunset

Reluctant at first, Sunset slowly turned her head to the voice behind her to see who or what was calling her; when she dd, she recognized three young faces who belong to other students of Canterlot High. Applebloom, Sweetie Bell, and Scootaloo were playing jump rope not far from where Sunset sat. Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell were the ones on the side swinging the rope with Applebloom being the jumper. They all wore white silk dresses and they all appeared to move in slow motion, but what made Sunset's goosebumps return was the fact that they were all looking directly at her as though mesmerized by her presence. Then, Applebloom began to sing. She began to sing a song that sounded like a nursery rhyme though, not one Sunset had ever heard before.

One, two, Freddy's coming for you.

Applebloom's voice sounded as though she had no emotion to what she was singing, like she was an empty shell with a drained spirit. What made Sunset even more scared was when the other two young girls began to sing as well, starting with Sweetie Bell.

Three, four, better lock your door.

Five, six, grab your crucifix.” Scootaloo now joined in, the creepy choir now sang in unison in perfect harmony.

Seven, eight, gonna stay up late

Nine, ten,” the trio stopped singing and jump roping all together, they kept their eyes trained on Sunset and then they all pointed at the frightened student. “Never sleep again.

Just then, the glass that Sunset had rested her head on shattered as the fazor-fingered hand emerged and wrapped around, pulling her through the now broken door. She closed her eyes and began kicking and screaming in an attempt to fight back, her screams were soon silenced as she felt the cold touch of metal caress her lips. Her eyes opened wide and her pupils shrank in size as she stared at the sight before her: the man's face along with his other hand was badly burnt, his red and green sweater was tattered and well worn, his grotesque appearance was topped off by the dark brown fedora which stunk of soot and ash.

“Shhhhhhhh,” the man hushed as he kept his index finger blade on Sunset's quivering lip. “There's nothing to fear except fear....himself.” The burnt man pulled back his arm and came in for a swing, all Sunset could do was let out the loudest scream in her entire life.

Sunset Shimmer woke up in her bed screaming, even though her bedroom was the coldest in her house, she still awoke sweating as though she had been standing many hours in the heat. When her screaming died down, Sunset could make out another sound, a sound which she usually awoke to. Sunset hit the Snooze button which in turn killed her alarm, glancing at the time she bit her lip in frustration.

“Damn it, I'm late for school.” She quickly threw off her blanket and ran straight for her shower to prepare for the school day.
