If a pony does not earn his cutie mark, how do they progress into adult life? Do they accept it and submit to rules that don't apply to them or do something else entirely?

A one-shot created simply to vent, initially, I wrote this in an hour after a rare jolt of inspiration. If anyone enjoys this, then that makes my day! As well as that, this isn't what I'd usually write so I hope I did a smashing good job.

Interestingly, I've had similar thoughts about myself. I don't believe in destiny or fate necessarily, but life as it is has done a pretty good job of kicking me when I'm down. My main thing is that I like to think I know what I'm good at, but the world doesn't care for my talents. Or maybe I'm wrong and I'm deluding myself into thinking I have any talent at all. That's what I subsist on positive feedback and support from other people, as I can't do it for myself. Don't know if you're struggling with similar issues, but if so, I feel for you.

You would think such a pony would go live among the minotaurs, the zebra, the griffons, or such -- a people who do not ever get marks. There he would not be judged. There his lack of an expressed talent would not be a hindrance.
Horribly belated review notification for you. It was pretty readable, with a couple of interesting ideas, but as you say yourself it was largely written for venting purposes and doesn't explore the colt's situation very deeply.
