Like a phoenix, I burn and I rise

T

Six Weeks. That's how long Earth has before it's consumed by the Barrier. Worldgov is scrambling to convert as many people as possible. Join thirteen-year-old Lukas as he escapes Earth by leaving behind his humanity, and more, and coming to live in Equestria as a refugee, along with so many other lost children of Earth. Most will be taken in by healthy Pony families - unfortunately, Lukas winds up living with some of the most dysfunctional Ponies out there

Rated Teen for profanity, innuendo (mostly in later chapters), and complex themes.

Warning: This is currently UN-Beta'd, and updates will be slow and irregular.

Sex tag added to be safe, as chapter 3 contains a bit of clinical discussion of sexual matters.

Hmm... I'm actually fairly interested to see where this goes. Please, continue.

7145185 Will do. The second chapter will be up soon-ish, provided I can stay on the roll I'm on.

I only know a few things about riot control, but I think knowing what I know, I would have opted to inspire sympathy by saying that the regular potion was running out, everyone here was very lucky to get in, but the regular stock being so low, some of them would have to suffer red potion or not get any at all, then I would ask for volunteers.

I don't know what's up with that anyway, but honestly I think they are all very lucky no one panicked. I'm sure their potion-paintballs are low on stock as well, and they wouldn't want to use them against people they're supposed to be protecting.

I like it. Before I looked I thought it would be crap because you added it yourself it's good to see that my patterns are wrong at least some of the time.

7146192 Yeah, you're almost certainly right - I know less than I really should about riot control, especially the persuasion/propaganda bits. I'll probably change that at some point, especially since I planned on doing a revision somewhere down the line anyway, once I get far enough in and get either a good bit of feedback or a beta reader.

Interesting story. But the stories format needs to be better. The lack of paragraphs made reading it hard.

7148373 OK, I'll double-space in between paragraphs if you think it'll help.

Edit: Done.

Ah! I was wondering when another Conversion Bureau story was going to appear. I like that the locale is not the states and is somewhere fairly far away from it. I am going to track this as it seems interesting. Please continue with it as i am currently enjoying it.

Oh yay a update \0/

The protagonist's perspective has shifted from last chapter, so I'm rather impressed with that change reflected in the narrative. I hope to see more.

7224867 Thanks. Lukas's (Or should I say Frost's?) perspective will continue to shift, though not as radically, as he processes the changes he's experienced, and as he settles into his new life. Did everything seem believable to you?

More will come, though it'll probably be a few weeks again.

Another misandrist? That's fresh. These are even worse than misanthropes, much worse.

The show itself doesn't have this disproportionate thing, you know. Only in fan theory does this exist. A theory easily debunked by anyb(p)od(n)y ready and willing to stop and count the background extras. How many square faces do you see in any public outdoor scene? How many round ones? How many special event sequences have a twenty-eighty difference in the crowds?

I hope somesurgeon ties that crook's tubes. And commits it. And puts a straight jacket on it. Given the two married couples we have been introduced to who weren't immediately introduced as parents, the Cakes, Mi Amore, I think we can all agree straight couples are the typical and norm. All others favor friendship over romance. To the best of anyponies' knowledge, no one thinks about romance by default; companionship and togetherness come first, love and sex second. If there was such a disproportionate thing this would not be the case. 49-51, 48-52, or even 47-53 are the most likely scenarios, not 60s-40s, 70s-30s or 80s-20s. Besides, when we have the likes of Tia, Lu, "D", Spike, Shining, Chrissie, Pip and two others who are going to be around for a very long time, what need is there for children? With standard mortals, a 20-80 in either direction would be a disaster, and turning men to mares outside of consent would result in less seeds for mares who want it. This would put their very existence at risk, and this absence of perverted horses would cease to exist.

7231929 Yeah, Faisal has issues, issues that will be explored and addressed down the line. That said, punishment for the sake of retribution is most definitely NOT part of any version of Equestria I'd care to see. Also, there is an AU tag on this for a reason ... I will be playing fast and loose with a lot of canon material. In this continuity, there is a demographic imbalance that is caused by fertility magic, and it is definitely considered a crisis, one that has been addressed with conventional measures (polyamory and sperm donorship) along with the selfsame fertility magic and - to put it bluntly - social engineering, and many in Equestria are guiltily thankful for the abundance of newfoal stallions. There'll be more on that in chapter 4 or 5, if you'd care to wait around, but yes, Faisal's little stunt set things back, and is not going to be looked on kindly at all.

Edit: Ponies' longer lifespans also mitigate the imbalances as well (Again, this will be brought up in-story down the line).

This is really, really good. Straight into the Bureau story listings. Fantastic job!

7239642 Thank you, that is high praise indeed.

This story is getting me a little more interested. Keep up the good work!

“I’ve been trying not to disrupt your culture, you ungrateful, sanctimonious ass!”
“Do you know how hard it is to find an available stallion in Equestria, you chucklefuck?!” :rainbowhuh:
“...what?”
“Steadfast, give everyone responsible the blue potion, have them collared and transported to my personal detention facility.” :rainbowkiss:
“Wait, no!”
“I’ll be seeing you on the other side, big boy.:rainbowdetermined2:

7382583 LOL, you're bad! :rainbowlaugh: :rainbowwild:

Seriously though, Rainbow Dash is NOT lacking in enthusiastic partners in this continuity - stallions, mares, you name it. She is very much a big deal, and knows it.

7382804

Seriously

Oh, no. Please no. Anything but seriously! :raritydespair:

But seriously, I'm surprised not more high profile people have terrible luck with relationships. Besides high standards and sycophants, you have people putting you on a pedestal, or avoiding you because they don't consider themselves worthy enough to be with you. If everyone assumes you're already swimming in suitors, you might just end up alone. Anyway, it's a silly quote that really should be taken with a grain of salt, but do recall just how hilarious it was when Rainbow Dash couldn't get a single glass of cider.

7385144 Yeah ... that is a common problem I'd expect, but in this continuity, most of RD's partners are Ponies (And a Griffon) she knew from before she got really famous, not that we'll be seeing super much of her, or the Mane Six on the whole in this story (Pinkie's got a bit in the next chapter, and I have a scene with Twilight planned, but past that, it's up in the air). And yes, I am going the whole polyamorous Ponies route. :rainbowlaugh: LOL, that is something funny to remember, although I always kinda assumed that half of her reaction was due to who beat her out :pinkiecrazy: ... Loyalty betrayed by one of those she held most dear, and all that.

7385313
Not complaining about what you choose to do in your story. Dash could be wildly successful in bed, and I wouldn't bat an eye.

Maybe she was planning on selling them to other, lonely mares.

Great to see another chapter! I wonder why Melting Frost is seeing asked to keep this conversation quiet?

What is 'Strieble'? I tried looking it up, it seems to be a last name.

Did you mean strudel? The German dessert?

Nice chapter, and I am happy to see you update!

7594900 According to Wikipedia's funnel cake article, it's a German name for funnel cake, and may be a significant variation in the south of Germany, possibly the ancestor of the carnival dish we all know and love. The article's rather sparse, unfortunately. The cinnamon in the batter is merely an extrapolation of possible family/individual variants with a known regional palate. Glad you enjoyed the chapter.

7594726 The reason the conversation's supposed to be all hush-hush is because Melting Frost knows things that can - and probably will - be used to shut down several HLF cells, and if they're all chatty-patty about it, the info might get to the wrong people through an extended game of Telephone, potentially causing all sorts of mayhem down the line, and no one is taking chances on this. "Loose lips sink ships" and all that.

Now I'm wondering if getting pregnant would take her off the waiting list for the reversal potion...

7602495 I hadn't thought of that ... I think that'd be between them and their integration caseworker to work out, one way or another.

Edit: not that I have plans for Frost to get pregnant ...

7602794 Hey, all I'm saying is, I wouldn't want to be a mare for keeps, but I wouldn't be against trying to have a child. You can be a single dad as much as a single mom (or same sex couple, or whatever the situation)... Two years is enough to be ready to start weaning a foal...
I'm weird like that...

7602806 Fair enough, and while you might be, others might not, hence the case-by-case basis. And still, Frost is only 13, and while Ponies can handle pregnancy and birth a lot easier than Humans, and don't shame young and/or single parents, I don't think somepony that young is that anxious to become a parent when they're still a kid themselves.

7602825 Okay, I'll admit I forgot that part XD It's been a while since I read the last chapters :twilightsheepish:

But at least it applies to the situation this questionable camp set up.

And now you've given me an idea I want to write but know I both can't and shouldn't...

7603033 No worries. And if you do write that, let me know. I'd want to read it.

Life and Death? :derpyderp2: That sure came out of nowhere!

7731003 Yes and no. Remember, Frost's father is a hardcore H.L.F. type, and they tend to kill Ponies. And Frost knows enough to really put a damper on their operations.

7731118

Oh dear, her dad did something bad, then...

7733126 Yeah, you could say that again. And a lot of his buddies too ... and Frost knows who they are and - in some cases, at least - where they live.

7733201

More importantly, she might know where they could be keeping people captive.

7733215 Or at least able to theorize ... still, it'll take time - in universe - to act on the intel she'll be providing.

7817918 your link seems to be broken. :applecry:

7819420 no worries, it happens.

And thanks ... I really needed that. Merry hearths warming to you too.

hello 7820456 curious. She is going to be sister of Diamond Tiara :rainbowhuh:

8174312 yeah ... well, foster sister technically, but she will. If I can get my butt to work on the story, that is.

8174528I'm kidding just in case:trollestia: then get you butt to work on the story. :derpytongue2:Or I'll destroy all the pizza restaurants in your area:pinkiecrazy:

8174539 Alright, I'll get on it. :applecry:

Thankfully, I know where things are going, I just need to write it.

8174554:trollestia:I'm just kidding
You have failed me for the last time.:flutterrage:now watch how my rocket destroys your pizza restaurants:pinkiecrazy:
4:10

Damn, I should not have bought the North Korean computer.for the rocket:twilightangry2:

8758421 Yikes! I'd better redouble my efforts ... and stop fiddling with one scene that just won't come together.
