Toccata and Fluttershy

Thunder boomed outside as large drops of rain pelted the school windows from above. Fluttershy had to admit the place felt a bit spooky after school when nobody else was there. They had gotten permission from Principle Celestia to use the music room to practice after school, but the other girls hadn't quite showed up, making the pink haired girl kind of nervous. She gave a little eep at another flash of lightning as she took off her raincoat. and put it on the rack on the wall. Maybe they had decided to go home without telling her?

Her eyes scanned the room and rested upon a particular case. Rainbow Dash's electric guitar was inside there. She would probably come back for that at least. All of their instruments seemed to be there actually, including her own tambourine. The tambourine seemed to fit her personality and resonate with the magic that was inside her, but she had to admit deep inside of her that it was kind of boring to play. All she did was shake it and not much else. Sure it added to the songs they sang, but she felt like it didn't contribute as much as the others.

Ever so slowly she walked up to Rainbow's guitar case, like it would get up and run away if she made to much noise. Flutters argued with herself not to touch it, that maybe the girls would be showing up any second and touching one of their instruments would get her in big trouble.

Still, as another lightning bolt lit up the stormy sky she couldn't help but feel mesmerized by it. Shifting her eyes to look all around her she finally steeled her nerve and knelt down to open it up. There it was, the blue guitar in all its glory, already tuned and ready to be played by anyone who wanted to. With shaky hands she reached down and gently lifted the instrument out of its casing, loving the feel of it in her grasp. Fluttershy slung the strap over her shoulder while she bit her lip in barely contained excitement, joyfully tiptoeing to the other side of the room to plug in the instrument and turn on the amp.

She settled in the center of the room with the wire dragging behind her, snaking right to the amp from Rainbow's Guitar. She felt so bad in doing this, but at the same time... she really, REALLY wanted to give it a try.

Lightning struck again, and though she could not see it, her shadow had made a shape far different than her own at that moment. It had the profile of a horse with a strange horn and antler poking out of its head, and a snake like body that showed up for only a brief second before the lightning flash died away to be replaced the roaring thunder.

Her fingers moved of their own accord and struck out three rapid notes that sounded terribly familiar. Kind of like that dracula movie she watched the other night. She let out a little squee as the notes hung there in the air, before following it up with a flick of her fingers over the metalic strings to finish off those iconic notes. For some reason she knew exactly where her hands needed to be on the neck and everything, it was kind of magical. The powerful notes felt so satisfying sounding out from that amp that she just wanted more.

Her fingers began to dance on the top of the strings, making it sing its heart pounding tune that sounded so deliciously awesome in the shy girls ears. She couldn't help but close her eyes and lightly bob her head to it as she she bit harder on her bottom lip. No wonder Rainbow Dash loved it so much.

She was so into it she didn't notice Applejack walk into the room with her mouth agape as she walked over to her bass. She didn't know what was going on, but she knew she wanted to crack out her own instrument for it. She waited for the right moment to join in, when Fluttershy let it growl out a gutteral note before adding her own contribution to the peace. Two resounding strums sounded from Applejack, though Fluttershy didn't take much notice of it the music seemed to welcome the bass almost immediately.

Pinkie Pie popped her head into the room and scurried over to her drums, picking up her sticks before lightly tapping on the cymbals. Both Pinkie and Applejack were looking at each other in astonishment over what Fluttershy was doing, gradually getting more and more into it before they started picking up the intensity of both their instruments.

Fluttershy was getting really into it now, loving the new sounds flooding the room accompanying her. She was in a trance, barely even aware her friends were there before shredding into a riff that sounded far beyond the realms of an amateur. Her wrists swayed, making the notes warble and sing as she drew them out in skillful abandon before returning to that familiar beat she had started with. She had begun glowing a little, but not the way she did when she played the tambourine. This was a slightly darker energy coming off of her, and she loved every second of it.

She didn't care that She started floating a few inches off the ground as she increased the intensity of her playing. She didn't mind that Rarity had come into the room and silently asked the others what was going on before wandering over to her keytar. Pinkie was really getting into it, skillfully whipping her drum sticks onto the taut surfaces of her drums as she watched wings start to grow out of Fluttershy's back. The shy girl ripped her knuckle against it, making it give off the most wonderful shredding sound as her wings solidified and pointy teeth started coming out of her mouth.

Her wings weren't the normal feathery variety, but resembled those of a yellow bat, and her hair had become increasingly frazzled during this whole impromptu play session. She wildly waved about in the air as she made delightfully powerful notes issue out of it, finally floating upside down as Rarity started to join in with a pipe organ sound out of her keytar.

Rainbow Dash was there now with Sunset shimmer who was trying to keep the blue girls jaw from going completely on the floor as she watched Fluttershy make her instrument sing out one epic and drawn out note after another before everything had gone silent.

Floating upside down, Fluttershy gave a toothy smile to Rainbow and winked before sounding out those familiar notes that had started this all, soundly finishing off their jam session with those final notes gradually fading off in the air.

"Wow Dash....Maybe we should give you the tambourine..." Sunset quipped to her shocked friend. The rainbow haired girl sputtered and tried to argue with her but everyone had already started laughing at that, and she ended up joining in after a few seconds herself. Fluttershy had come back to her senses and put herself back on the ground before rushing over to Rainbow apologetically.

"Oh I'm sorry Rainbow Dash, I don't know what came over me, I just saw your guitar and I just... you know..."

"You did pretty alright, I think I woulda done better...." Applejack made a snort at that "...but maybe you have some chops in ya. What do ya say we get you a guitar?"

Fluttershy let out a squee at this, her bat wings fluttering as she gave Dash a hug.

"Why are your wings all vampire-ish though?"

Came back two weeks later to read again and it is still as awesome as the first time I read this. Feels like Fantasia.STILL AMAZING!!!
