Bed Head

Part of the Flipverse! (Needs wiki magic love)

Across Equestria, there's one event that even the least sociable ponies look forward to: The Grand Galloping Gala! A magical night of music, dancing, meeting nobility, an other fairy-tale wonders...

And now Twilight, Number One Assistant to Equestria's Element of Magic, finally has her chance to go! The invitations have been sent, and of course Ponyville's six newest heroes made the guest list, Spike included! And there's no way that he wouldn't bring his oldest friend along as his "Plus One", right?

Well, even if that were to happen, there's still five other ponies with tickets in town...

Everyone will already have a guest

So... will Twilight talk to Time Turner first because she's got a bit of a crush on him herself, or save him for last for the same reason? :trollestia:

It will certainly be interesting to see how the others intend to use their tickets.

Hey there. Thanks greatly for getting this story started. I really appreciate you going to the effort. Excellent job on the exchanges, emotional content, humor and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Also great job on the explanation for certain details. I'm going to hazard a guess that Big Mac's "plus one" is going to be Apple Bloom (since he would figure Applejack should stay behind to mind the farm and watch over Granny Smith). That still leaves Cheerilee and Time Turner, though. At any rate, I'll definitely be looking forward to more of this as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

For some reason, I'm expecting Cheerilee to ultimately end up taking her. That would be cute.

Knew from the moment I went into the fic that Spike had already asked Rarity, but then again, that wasn't exactly hard to predict, was it? :rainbowlaugh:

Well, let's see how it goes with the other members of the Flipped 6. Certainly there will be complications with them as well, or else there wouldn't be a story, but that's where it gets fun.

Aww, its so nice how much Spike and Twilight love each other, he's ready to put off his crush on Rarity to let Twilight go to the gala and she's willing to give up on the gala so he gets to be with Twilight.

My prediction of the story: -

Cheerilee makes her plus one invite the prize for the book report. Rumble wins and either doesn't need it because Thunderlane takes him or doesn't want to go so he gives his ticket to Twilight. Twilight might get a little heartbroken if Time Turner is taking somepony else though.

Oh gosh, this is a killer opening. ^^ The anticipation, the feels, I love it! Really looking forward to more of this, assuming Twilight doesn't murder me with her adorableness. :pinkiehappy:

Hey there. Thanks very much for getting this next chapter up. I really appreciate you going to the effort. Once again, great job on the exchanges, emotional content, humor and future chapter set-up in all the right places. I'll definitely be looking forward to more of this as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

All the mares at the office are after him I bet

Have we previously established that Twi's got a crush (of sorts) on Time Turner? I don't seem to recall that coming up before, but then again it's been awhile since I read the first entry in the Flipverse, and the last story with Trixie didn't really have the scene set up to go into depth on the matter (that I recall), so maybe I'm just not remembering...

I see Thunderlane's already discovered the fame that comes with having a gala ticket.

Somehow doubt he's got a spot for a plus one still available at this point though, and probably wouldn't appreciate Twi asking regardless as no doubt he's already been asked that repeatedly by this point, and yet I somehow doubt he's going to want to surrender his own ticket either. Suppose we'll see.

I knew it was going to break my heart to read Time Turner's rejection. Wonderfully handled. Of course she went to him first.

It may not have actually come up in the story, but rather in forum brainstorming discussions afterward... Flip!Spike and Rarity's relationship parallels the general canon, and it was suggested that Flip!Twilight and Time Turner could make an interesting Beta that parallels and deconstructs other aspects of the relationship between Element of Generosity and The Dragon. Gotta love literary foils, especially when they're as adorkable as Twilight.

7125119 Yeah, I'm all for it myself, for the same reasons as you list, I just couldn't recall if it had been brought up before.

I tried to do some very subtle hints back in Flipside that Twilight might develop an attraction to Time Turner (even before the idea was mentioned in the forums), but this is the first fic where I'm really taking a chance to develop the idea.

Okay, I had thought that was probably the case. So I guess I either missed the hints, or more likely, had caught on or at least suspected at the time but had since forgotten. It has been a little while since I read through Flipside last. :twilightsheepish:

Bah, it doesn't matter really, I'm all for the idea as I said.

Awww! Twilights crush on TT is sweet, although like M-verse Spike I can see her getting her heart broken sooner or later. I don't think he's figured out her feeling yet, he'll probably have to let her down gentle at some point.

Imagining the flipverse equivalent to the Spike Gets Huge And Greedy episode (the name of which escapes me currently) with Twi and Time Turner makes me giggle a little bit. Pretty cute overall.

Aww, leaving it on a cliffhanger! You dog.

And dragon!Twi got me thinking, would you ever be interested in exploring The Gauntlet of Fire in this verse? I can't remember if you ever said you were gonna jump around the timeline or even if the events would match up in the same way.

There's a lot of episodes I'd like to explore in this verse, but my mind and writing style work best by going forward and in order.

Now, since it is an AU and the show has a very episodic nature, there's some room for flexibility (like Trixie showing up waaaaay earlier than she did in canon). I also love playing with ideas of how major canonical events (like Discord's escape or Sunset Shimmer's theft of the elements) could change with it being Spike and his friends as the mane cast instead of Twilight and the Remane Five. I just prefer to actually write these events out in chronological order (or something akin to it) because it's easier for me to keep track of everything that way.

Seeing as Gauntlet of Fire didn't happen until after Twilight's ascension (and that event itself took place nearly one year after Twilight moved to Ponyville), I have a ton of other stories I can tell before we get to that same point in Flipverse's timeline.

Hey there. Thanks very much for getting the next chapter up. I really appreciate you going to the effort. Once again, excellent job on the exchanges, emotional content, humor and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Now, I have to say, poor Twi. Then again, considering the mess the Gala turned out to be, I would say they are doing her a favor without even knowing it (though the thing about Cheerilee might be Wrong Genre Savvy [on the other hand, it might NOT be]). Good cliffhanger, though. I'll definitely be looking forward to more of this as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

I think Twilight will do the right thing.

Oh Mac is just such a nice guy, you just cant blame him for his choice.

Stay away from the dark side Twilight, I can totally understand how you feel but you'll feel terrible if you mess up Spike's night.

Awww, I love Twilight's crush on Time Turner. It's really sweet. :raritystarry: I hope it works out well for her.

7157974 I have a question myself. Are you planning to have the flip verse crossover with the canon verse? I'd love to see both realities Twilight's and Spike's reacting to meeting each other. That be so ackward! :rainbowlaugh:

Entertained the idea, particularly a displacement fic where Canon! Twilight and Flip! Twilight wind up in each other's bodies and universes.

Nothing concrete yet, and it's unlikely I'd make it canon to the actual events for the verse, but it'd be a fun little side project once more of the Flipverse has actually been written and established.

Oh dear, Granny Smith at the Grand Galloping Gala. That'll certainly liven the event up all right. :rainbowlaugh:

Well... that's incredibly depressing. :fluttercry: I knew it was coming, but just reading it? I'm torn. A part of me wants Twilight to be chewed out for this, but having her already see this backfire on her is bad enough. I don't know what to feel as of now.

Bad Twilight. Now you sit in the corner and think about what you did.

All aboard the Twilight Train Wreck. You can't look away even if you try.

Maybe Spike can have Cheerilee's ticket.

Holy Dragon Greed, Mistress Marevelous!

I really hope this all works out fine, maybe the ticket didn't make it to the train on time?

Yeowch. Excellent job on the emotional content in this latest chapter. I WOULD feel sorry for Twilight except that 1. She brought it on herself and 2. She unknowingly did herself and Spike a favor (considering how lame and dull the Gala actually IS). I will definitely be looking forward to the next chapter as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

Huh, in most stories, this usually leads to a verbal spar that leaves one of them in tears and takes a couple chapters for the other character to get our of their guilt and apologize. You wrapped it up much sooner and in a believable way. Nice. :ajsmug: I do love this twist on this trope and it was very telling of how close they are to each other. Great job.

Twilight's one lucky dragon.

In the original episode, Spike (in denial) claimed that he didn't want to go, and Celestia sent him a ticket anyway. In a perfect Flip!Equestria, Spike would take Rarity and Celestia would send Twilight her own ticket plus a guest, and we'd end on a funny cliffhanger over who she's going to invite now.

Probably won't turn out that way, though... the right thing for Twilight to do would be to let Spike go with Rarity, even if it means that she can't, Opposite of dragon greed and all...

Hey there. Not much I can say other than excellent job on the second-to-last chapter of this story. The exchange, emotional content and epilogue set-up are all set-up in all the right places. I'll definitely be looking forward to the last chapter as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

Yeah, I thought the ticket wouldn't get sent. Seemed like the obvious solution to the problem.

Though, I admit that the alternate idea of Twilight then having to go on a mad chase to get the ticket back and correct the mess before anypony noticed could been lots of fun. :rainbowlaugh:

Twilight is showing her draconic nature there.

Pretty cool. So what's the idea for the next story?

Plus everyone knows that a hug from Dinky can be lethal in multiple ways... if the bone-crushing part doesn't get you, the heart attack from cuteness overexposure will.

That was a sweet way to end this. I can't wait for more in this series.

Aww. :-D Such a beautiful ending to this story. :-D The exchanges, emotional content, humor, sweetness and wrap-up were all well done in all the right places. :-D I'll definitely be looking forward to the next story as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

My question is how different will the Gala be from the one during the show? And who will have a Fluttershy break-down?
Anyways, enjoying the story so far.

It's called 'Secret of My Excess', and I would imagine the Flipverse version of it to have some of 'It's About Time' or 'Lesson Zero' feel to it.

Of course.:rainbowwild:

So Granny goes to the Gala, and Twilight just skipped asking Cheerilee?
Didn't see either of those coming.

So I guess Flitter being Rumble's sitter is either fan-cannon, or mere coincidence (or not) that both the Flipverse and The Shimmerverse share that take.

Hey has anyone else noticed how there aren't any A/U fics like this [with alternate mane 6/ elements] that have done a take on Discord's escape yet (unless I haven't looked hard enough)?

I think there are some, and I know I plan on doing one (provided I get that far).

I liked this little story. I was great to see Twilight react to the disappointment she felt.

Okay, this is already better than the episode. Twilight, you're so awesome.

Oh, that was heartbreaking. Can I cross the fourth wall and hug Twilight?

Oh, Twilight. You fucked up good here. Hell, I don't like Spike breaking his date with Rarity either.
