Mudpony

Confound these wretched equines! For every one I fling away, a dozen more vex me!

E
Try

Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon's afternoon at the park takes an unexpected turn when they witness Apple Bloom being rejected and, in a fit of despair, drive the other Crusaders away. Naturally, Diamond Tiara is determined to console her Apple Bloom, because she's a good friend without any ulterior motives.

A P!nk Pony Tale inspired by P!nk's song "Try", starring everyone's my favorite pink pony.

And I'm back in my usual writing style with another P!nk-inspired, DT-focused story, because DT stories are what I do. Maybe someday, I'll write one of these for my other favorite pink pony (:pinkiegasp:), best background pony Sea Swirl, my favorite pink princess (:trollestia:... hey, she's ever-so-slightly pink), , or Cadance, but today is not that day.

And since this one isn't sad, so I've got no qualms about using the P!nk-inspired cover I used for Funhouse. Which is a good thing, since I'm house-sitting for my brother at the moment, and lack access to my computer.

That was a nice little romp.

Wait, so AB is liking Diamond now? :rainbowhuh:

7024620 Thanks.

7024795 Yup. The weather forecast calls for another gloomy, overcast day in her future. But hey, she's a CMC. If anyone not named Derpy/Ditzy can screw up a weather forecast, it's probably them.

Cute. I like what you did with these characters after Crusaders of the Lost Mark made it so difficult to write conflict between them not routed in the usual dynamic.

Pony coat colour theory, hm? Interesting concept.

The OC closest to my own self is different shades of metallic grey, like sheets of tin. I wonder what that means.

I don't think it necessarily makes it that difficult. It changes their behavior a bit, true, mostly softening it. But the ponies are still who they are.

DT will still want to be the top pony, and as in this story, will still want things to go her way. Spoon still has within her the attitude that made her participation possible in the first place (her DT-break-up line delivery... ouch). And the CMC are prone to bickering, even among themselves, to the point of it getting physical. So the potential for conflict and fun interaction is still there, but it'll be more like a mix of AJ+Dash rivalry and Rarity+AJ social clash. And while it might make it harder to write a story that relies on pointless conflict between the two, on the up side, it is easier to write one that relies on them wanting to do things together. No more relying on Cheerilee to put them together on a school camping trip and then having them get lost. Now you can make the five of them go camping together because they want to. DT can spend the night at the Apples without her father being broke and having to leave her there for a lengthy period of time. Heck, AB can easily spend the night at the Riches now.

Mostly, I think it'll just take people a little bit to adapt their thinking. To adapt to the new story possibilities. Probably will take until we get another DT/Spoon episode.

It is annoying though when you're trying to rework a story based on the old paradigm to fit the new one :pinkiecrazy:

While mostly in the story so DT would have a silly justification for why she should handle the situation, if you think about it, is seems like something pretty obvious. After all, think about the assumptions we make about hair color, and how we'll dye it to match a certain image we want to project. I could easily see ponies expecting that a blueish pegasus is a faster flyer than a pastel yellow one, or that a non-earth-tone pony is something other than a farmer. And so on.

If put on the spot to list something for grey, I'd go with artistic creativity. Spoon is good at culinary arts (maybe). Maud has her poetry. Octavia plays an instrument. Derpy... well, she does all sorts of jobs, is a bit of a free spirit. And it is all vague enough that people can read it, apply it to at least some small aspect of their lives ("I create stuff with lego"), and feel like there might be some truth to it :raritywink:

That's some great insight into writing the CMC and the (formerly) Terrible Twosome! It's even got the seeds of a potential breakup between them.

Well, it would, if some readers weren't ready to pillory any writer who dares pushing them apart again.

I'm still waiting for someone (show or fanfic) to have Diamond and Silver interact with Babs Seed again. Because I can imagine that even with a truce between the Crusaders and their not-anymore-bullies, there could still be a sense of betrayal and resentment lingering underneath.

Oh God, is it ever! I haven't touched my crappy little clop story for half a year now because Crusaders of the Lost Mark made the serious hostility between them go poof. That puts a damper on things when your latest chapter ends with Cheerilee asking Scootaloo and DT to bury the hatchet.:ajsleepy:

Wouldn't be surprised if ponies think Fluttershy is... yellow-bellied. It's superstition, but there's folks out there who read their horoscopes with an almost religious reverence. Never mind that there are definitely correlations between a pony's looks and their personality and/or special talent, too often to be coincidence.

Now that's really interesting! And also kind of funny. :rainbowlaugh: The OC in question shares some of Spoony's facets, in fact. He's an earther, is the follower/best friend to a spoiled brat whom he tries to support and keep in line if need be, has a not-so flattering name (Tin Soldier) and a tool for a Cutie Mark (a crossbow—not heroic or glorious, but easy to handle and it gets the job done).

It was only after I finalised his design that I noticed just how similar they were. Maud and Pinkie, Derpy and Time Turner, Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara, Octavia and Vinyl... maybe grey ponies make for dependable, stabilising companions?

That aspect might actually play out better now. Prior to DT's redemption, the main reason people drove them apart was as part of the standard Spoon redemption plot. Now that DT is redeemed, that particular plot is dead. So either you've got a friendship ending for some reason or a redeemed DT and an unredeemed Spoon. Either way, something relatively unexplored.

I think there are a few fan-fics out there that do that. I know for sure there is at least one, because I wrote it ("Attitude" in the DC Anthology).

Not a bad take on it either. Some talk about grey like a rock, stoic, making them dependable (go mail mare!) and often the pillars that support great things.

Wow! Love the way this is written :pinkiehappy:
