The First Hive
The Empress walked through one of the hive’s main entrances, stopping briefly to examine the guards standing there. As always they were attentive, the hive mind making them completely loyal and the perfect beings to do her bidding. But they would be no match for the alicorns, but sending them away would ultimately be fruitless and even tip her coming guests off.
“Don’t let anything through,” the Empress commanded verbally to the guards, adding a message to the others through the hive mind. “The alicorns will be coming, trust in that. Do what you can.”
The guards did not respond to the Empress, but she knew they had listened and would obey. It was what they were for, after all.
The Empress continued onwards, walking once more through the hive she called home, what had been the centre of all changeling civilisation even during her absence. That fact did please her a little, she wouldn’t have it be anywhere else.
Even if not all the memories were pleasant ones.
She stopped at a junction, staring down one of the hallways as she imagined the sounds of four tiny hole ridden hooves pattering down them in a hurry. Hooves that had dominated those halls so very long ago.
Shaking off the needless nostalgia, the Empress moved on forwards once more. She passed no more of her drones, all too busy awaiting the arrival of her foes.
The Empress couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought of the coming battle. Those thoughts brought her back to the tiny hooves, and truly how long ago that was. But how even then the seed was planted, her destiny all but written in the stars. What had been done to her before she even knew the world, and what it meant even if the princesses were to fatally strike at her.
She arrived in the throne room and took her seat, sitting tall and resolute in the face of the coming struggle.
For the alicorns knew nothing about what she truly was, and what she transcended. They could break her, but she was fully confident they couldn’t destroy her. She was natural order incarnate, and she would survive.
“So let them come,” Immortalis spoke out to the empty chamber, bringing up a hoof which lightly crackled with the black and green magical energies within her blood.
“And let them see.”
End of Act 2
Well, everpony is screwed...
Good luck Lulu and Tia!
NowI'm curious, more then just a more powerful changeling? :O
This does bring up the question.... How did Immortalis come into being? Guess we'll just have to wait and see....
Some moisened bint lobbed a scimitar at her, I bet...
I knew Immortalis wasn't just an overpowered changeling queen. But magic glowing around her hoof?
8474356
It's all in the name. Immortalis. Bitch is immortal in the Perpetual order of the term.
I don't think she actually NEEDS her physical form. Hell, she might be some form of Lich or elemental.
8474399
Indeed. Not an Elemental. As they have physical forms and not spiritual forms. Unless you mean elemental spirits, which again have spirit forms and not physical forms. Something that is an 'Element' can not have both. Cause if it can change forms, then they are not a representation of that element.
But a Lich... Much closer, but not quiet. A Lich needs a physical object to put their soul into. When it is destroyed, so is the Lich. But while her Breast Plate armor was the key to things and had power, it is NOT where she came from. She was always on the throne waiting for her power that was sealed in the Armor piece to come back to revive, but it wasn't her soul jar.
No she is more of a.... Well a Ghost or Spirit. Her body is just a shell, it has no meaning. Her TRUE form, where she can be harmed, and where she will be killed by Twilight, is her soul that roams inside of the Hive Mind.
Think of it as, if Luna can only be harmed by ponies in their dreams in the Dream Realm instead of in the Physical Realm.

DING DING DING. WE HAVE A WINNER!
As for how a once Changeling Queen became that, well. You will see when Twilight does. But clues were dropped in this chapter.
So, like Celestia and Luna are the ponies' goddesses, so is she for the changelings?
8474834
Celestia and Luna are not goddesses, they're alicorns, not the same thing (even if some ponies view them that way).
And I'm sure Immortalis would love to hear you call her a deity, but nope. Not really.
Oooooohh nope. I have a bad feeling about all of this (then again, I've been thinking that since everything went downhill).
On another note, though I have no love for the Empress, I'm curious about her backstory. I hope it'll come up in the next chapter.
well now this trap is going to be interesting to watch.
Hmm... What an interesting question that I've actually never thought about before. I guess if I had to theorize though, I would have said that the Empress was the first changeling, and by being more experienced with changeling existence she can manipulate the hive mind in ways that the queens could only dream of doing. Though apparently according to 8474764 you hinted at her coming into existence in this chapter. Guess I'm just too dumb or too tired to figure it out...
Anyway, a nice epilogue. Act 2 was really just the thunderstorm before the hurricane wasn't it? I have a feeling all Act 3 is going to be is a train wreck of awesome battles and a roller coaster of emotions. (But... Well written, and not chaotic...) 'TIl next week then!
If the Empress is natural order incarnate, does that make her the counterpoint to Discord? Or does she not truly know what the Elements of Harmony are and believe that she is actually what they represent in order, completely misinterpreting what order really means? I guess I'll find out soon.
I wonder what Celestia's plan would be if the Empress simply makes Twilight hold a knife to her neck.
Oh snap... She is a body jumper, isn't she. Her true form is her personal Hive Mind, and the body she currently wears was just some random Queen she lobotomized all those thousands of years ago. That is how she plans to break Celestia, not by killing Twilight in front of her, but by making the young Queen her new body.
Is the empress planning to put her soul into Twilight's body and use her to fight the royal sisters. Or will it be like Tranformers 5 with the epic fight between Optimus Prime and Bumblebee and it ends that way?

I think you're putting too much stock in her claims. Never drink the kool aid, my friend.
*Screams internally*
That's it? That's all that's out? Ugh... the torture...
Sir, you have my attention now more than ever. Added to Tracking, because this is too damn good to NOT find out how it ends...
Lol the ending "author's note " was ruined by a Chevrolet add beneath
Well I can't wait to hear the story of Immortalis, also I have to ask and I may have asked this question before where is Discord in all of this?
Eh at least once I would like to see Celestia and Luna saving the day and stomping their enemy into dust... sigh. But my hopes are probably in vain and they are forever destined to be nothing more than plot device... Stupid canon.
Alicorn?
Its time for war, also goddamn I'm so freaking behind, when the 3rd story is already up! I gotta double time this!
So she is just a queen with a talent for dark magic. Too bad she doesn’t realize that magic is also called ALICORN magic.
Oh my god was Crepuscule her daughter?
