Part 1 of the Origin of the Rom

Drought and Famine stalk the ancient and now long vanished kingdom of Gyptia. A band of slaves led by Rom Inna Callin, cast out by their Master, are forced out onto the deadly desert of Celestia's Anvil.
Lost, dying of thirst and starvation, they are found by the old donkey trader Marchhare. Even his wagon of food and water cannot get them back to Gyptia. It MIGHT get them to Equestria.

Holy hell, man. Your writing style is almost poetic.

Thank you. I really do work at it.

This is way too well written.

Intense!

Simply amazing! I loved the story and can't wait for part two. I do wish it was broken up into smaller chapters though. I can only read and wright sparingly with a job, college, and house work to do so breaking it up would help to tell me when to put it down.

Wow, sorry bought taking so long, trying to get through my way to large read later list and remembered these... this was... very well crafted overall. The ideas, the building mythology and culture for the Rom, showing how different parts came about, all making sense, all fitting well. At first I thought the whole, Dying just to come back and hang with them later was off, but reading on it makes sense. Not only does it make damn sure they are on their own and 'free' at first, that they start thinking like they belong to nopony, but also gives a reason for him to be around for so long and help them out in ways that wouldn't work otherwise. Think you might have pushed the idiot to far into 'idiotic ass' territory at first, it was just, over the top stupid, but he did redeem himself well, just, felt a bit to heavy hooved at first.

All in all a good overall start the does a very good job of setting things up.... though do have to question how so few managed to produce so many descendants while still being 'Rom' and large, horse sized being rather then interbreeding with Ponies and so ending up smaller over time.

The Over the Top dumb behavior of Sando in the story is, sadly, based solidly on TWO different people that I have actually known. Thirst and hunger can lead even bright folks to doing dumb stuff . . . and regretting it later. This is especially true of folks who have never previously know want. It tends to bring out either the best or the worst in people.
