Sporktacles

I love sporks. And I love soup. Those two things unfortunately don't go together very well.

E

When I hear the way ponies talk about Trixie, all they can see the showmare. They only see the performer claiming to be the greatest magician ever, and while most of the crowd will happily enjoy her wonderful show, some of those ponies just dismiss her as a braggart and a fraud.

They don't know her. They don't know how Great and Powerful she really is.

This is pretty good! It gave me a few story ideas, and I really enjoyed this.

I had a feeling who the narrator was...Beatrix Lulamoon. I wonder how everypony in Ponyville would have acted if Trixie blew up at Twilight's friends after hearing those comments after losing her home? Any chance of another story from the narrator's point-of-view?

I really like this, the point of view was confusion for a big part, but really interesting :pinkiehappy:

This was a pretty cool idea, I liked it.

Very good. I figured out the 'twist' in the first paragraph, but that didn't matter, I loved the characterization.

legumes or alfalfa

Alfalfa is a legume.

I didn't know that! All I've eaten were sprouts. I've changed it. Thanks a bunch.

I actually contemplated using that very name somewhere in the story (I thought about having it written on the manebrush). But then I figured that I was already being way too obvious about who the narrator was, and I didn't want to keep hitting the reader over the head with it.

FYI, if you pay close attention (I had to, I watched Boast Busters four times while writing this) the narrator actually appears for a few seconds during the episode. She's the one who admits to Twilight that the Ursa Major story was just made up.

It’s just not fair. Twilight and her mean friends get to go home tonight to their lovely houses and sleep in their comfortable beds

Exactly. Insult a performer for performing, wake up a monster and punish the performer for attempting to help without remembering the performer lost their home. Twilight and her friends also should have gone after Trixie like EVERYONE they seem to care about.

I mean seriously you don't interrupt a show because you don't like it. That's why I enjoy Trixie she is boastful yet talented and I LIKE third person speak it's different! Plus her symbol has a moon on it! Where is the Trixie encounter with Luna? Not to mention Trixie continues to be punished for Season 1 and now 3 even though she was taken over by an evil amulet. There's a story with Trixie that the show has yet to show and unfortunately doesn't want to.

This irks me so much. Not Trixie but the experience itself.

I remember my first time watching Boast Busters. When Trixie's wagon unfolded itself i notice it was done without magic and then there was fireworks, smokescreen, and the appearance of the showmare herself. From that point on Trixie became my favorite pony. To me Trixie felt magical, and Twilight doesn't count because she is the main character, the element of magic, and student of Princess Celestia. I remember when Rarity went on stage that i was hoping she would handle the problem with grace but as soon as she pulled the stage curtain down i literally yelled at the TV that day screaming WHY. After that scene with Rarity my experience with the episode just got worse from there to the colts, the Ursa Minor, the destruction of Trixie's property. Then the ending when the 3 girls complaining that Trixie was boasting actually made me cry. Tears were falling down my face because i really felt bad for Trixie and that the show's main characters/heroes are the one interrogating a mare that just lost her wagon.

I really hate this episode so much.

I thought so too. It must be a custom built wagon Trixie made herself or have commissioned. I actually wasn't surprised that she came back seeking revenge later in magic duel, tho i was hoping she would use some of her stage performance during the duel. I guess the amulet really amplify her anger and sorrow.

Twilight again proved to show she was a better mare in both this and magic duel. Tho she could of done better in Boast Busters, I like how she handled the ending of Magic Duel. She is truly the best Princess of friendship.

you sometimes create this external persona that is supposed to be awesome and capable of anything and you keep faking it till you believe it.

I look at up, and I see tears trickling down Trixie’s face.

Also, Everyone who's seen Boast Busters needs to read this (and everyone else should, too). This as beautifully written and heartbreaking.

Also also, I totally called the narrator's identity.

Corrected, thanks!

This is one of the few good Trixie stories I've read here. Now to find some of Zecora.

I really like almost everything about this story, but something's... off. Something that's giving me a headache, trying to pin it down. It might be that the narrator, who otherwise seems to be Trixie, refers to actually seeing Trixie from a third-person vantage several times. What's going on there?

7413828

Trixie only actually looks at herself in the presence of a reflective surface, such as the river or her mirror. There are also some occasions when the narrator is speaking figuratively rather than literally - "I lay low and try to remain unobtrusive", "Trixie steps out and leaves me behind."

7413887

OHHHH. I wasn't even thinking about the river. Thank you!

Very nice. Is this a case of true split personality, or a simpler explanation like a coping mechanism?

7520603

It's a coping mechanism. In the story she develops her stage persona to keep her real self "safe". Trixie is the persona who takes risks, gets humilated, fights back and is in constant denial of any setbacks. Beatrix Lulamoon is the "real" her, who is risk-adverse, socially inept, very pessimistic but is completely honest with herself. By the end of the story "Trixie" cannot deny her inadequacy or the gravity of her situation any more, so the mask slips, until she gathers herself and renews her resolve. I also like to think that she constantly narrates her life to herself to make it feel more epic, and that's what causes her to speak in the third person while on stage.

By the way, I noticed that this story suddenly got three upvotes in a single day. I'm curious how people are finding this story all of a sudden.

7521199

IIRC, it came up as an "also liked" or "similar" story when I was checking my own. Your stats didn't show any referrals from other sites, so I'm guessing that's how other people found it, too.

You shouldve put 'Sad' in the tags, cause this is pretty emotional...

7592592 Agreed, specially the ending line. :pinkiesad2:
Nice story, good work.

TDR

Trixie did get the raw deal in that episode.

This wonderfully-written story has reminded me just how much I hate the episode it is based on. The tone-deafness of the show writers in that one was utterly astonishing. :rainbowlaugh:

OMG, what in the wide world this is? I will tell you, this is beyond magnificent! The story is so awesome, I can't even... Jeez, why are you so good? What's your secret :D... Ok, okay, I'll stop being silly. Now to be cereal, the story was very dramatic and even tragic at the end, sad even, I really liked it, you made me cry like a girl. The story is quite conflicting, you made me feel guilt and stupid, because I didn't see how sad and serious Trixie's problem was and how awful Mane 6 actually acted. You have my thanks, for opening my eyes.

Hmm, I don't understand why your story has low upvote score, this story is underrated. This story deserve thousands if not more upvotes. Srsly.

Anyways, good luck with your other stories, you have a real talent for these kind of things. :thumbs up!:

I was really conflicted when I wrote the story, because I had to balance very carefully between telling the audience too much and too little.

Let me just point out that there is no OC tag in the story. The narrator is a canon character and if you watch Boast Busters again, in the scene when Twilight arrives to face the Ursa, the narrator is the one who tells Twilight that the Ursa story was made up. You can tell this because of the distinctive way she speaks.

If you don't want to rewatch it, the narrator has a blue coat and silvery mane with a moon and magic wand cutie mark. If anything in the story is still confusing, take a look at the spoilers in the other comments.

7955375 but wait... I... I don't understand. W-what? You mean it was Trixie who narrated? I'm confused, but... Oh My Gahd, WTF, this statement of yours made me cry even more :fluttercry: I can't even... Through the whole story I thought she had a companion, man I feel kinda stupid :D, sheesh.

Anyways, this made my heart explode a few times, now I'm truly amazed O.o BRAVO!

This is a great story. Surprised I missed it for this long, really.

This is why I love Trixie so much. And why it's difficult to rewatch that episode - even though it's her introduction episode - because once you start to think about it in this way, you realize how horrible the 'heroes' were that time.

Very well executed, especially the true identity of the narrator, which became more obvious if you started reading between the lines but was still subtle enough to miss if you didn't think about it. And I'll happily confess that I cried. When a fanfic can do that... it's good.

I should know, after all.

Uhm, this isn't Starlight or Sunburst, right?

Ok, this was... Really good, don't knlw exactly how to describe it, it wasn't funny, or exciting or sweet or any of the things I usually like in a story, yet I couldn't put it down and now I want more. Is there a sequel, because I really like this one.

I was just chatting about Trixie and the aftermath of this episode, and I was reminded of this story. This deserves ten times the upvotes it has. Bravo for such a wonderful piece.

I enjoyed this story. The narrator's point of view is exactly the same as mine.

Oh my god, this is beautiful! Even before reading the comments and finding out that it is Trixie herself who narrates, this would have been a top 3 of all times, if not the best, but this is just beautiful.

If you read this, be proud.
