Starlight Glimmer has had control over her little village for a very long time. Equality has driven everypony forward, but does it really bring true happiness along with them? After a talk with Double Diamond, Starlight begins to wonder if that's really the case. She has the power to answer that question for herself, but will she do the right thing?

Starlight Glimmer seems to struggle in this chapter with her internal debate on what she thinks she wants and what her conscience is nagging her about. For her, her vision of equality within the village and bringing it about by removing their Cutie Marks conflicts with her desire to see everypony happy, which in her moment of weakness she begins to realise might be best achieved by returning their Cutie Marks. Of course, in the end she manages to avert her staff at the last moment, but it's certainly an interesting 'What Could Have Been' moment.
