Twilight has grown comfortable living in her new castle in Ponyville. But the Princesses, in particular Celestia, have been worried about the fact that there are no guards to protect the new Princess of Friendship. Twilight has tried to reassure them that she does not need them, but in light of all the recent incidents that had occurred around Ponyville in recent months, they convince her that it is something she needs to have.
Twilight now faces the task of forming a unit that will exclusively serve her and her alone. And with recruits coming in from all the corners of Equestria, the unit will soon come to be one of the most diverse and most loyal of any guard unit ever formed.

No. There will be some show characters in the guard. There just wasn't enough room in the character slot to show them all. Zecora and Lightning Dust are 2. The others are a mystery.
I hope Sunset decides to come back and becomes the head of the Harmony guard.

Busy schedules have been hampering my ability to write. Also I have been dealing with serious writers block on a few of my stories and have decided to step back and narrow my focus. I will pick it up again.
Well, this one has promise. And amusingly enough, I think the two of us are of similar minds regarding Twilight's need for some guard support. Don't be surprised if I end up bringing up this story as time goes on with my own storyline.

The open recruitment to all really do fit the bill for a princess of friendship. And who knows, maybe she will let more than 20 join if they really want to.
And let be honest, the frontier with the Everfree need to be patroled a bit more.

Oh nice job to include Deers in the recruits selection. But no donkey? Bat Pones? Minautors? Diamond dogs? Dragons? Think it's a missed opportunity to explore with the shear amount of diversity present in Equestria. While we don't know if a changeling is among them a bit more different kind of creatures showing up and getting into the Gards would have been mighty interesting. Heck, even one of the the Sentient Apples (see the comics at IDW editions) could have been possible. Hilarious even but possible.
But I questions the idea of having only fresh recruits in the Harmony gards. It would have been sensible to bargain with Twilight to augment the number to maybe 25 or 30, the last five to ten for officers and a commander with experience. Just look at the training camp with how many other ponies with different jobs are necessary to run it? Ok it's a training camp and not an active units but Twilight new gars are going to needs some of that support structure once the are in service. If you pick those within the 20, you won't have much of them to do actual guarding or to go on missions with Twilight or the elements bearers.
So I think it might ends in a small logistics problem.
Oh and talking of recruiting for the castle, seeing how big it is and how many people's are going to live and work in it, Twilight should get one or two maid for the place too. Poor Spikes can't do everything.
