Sequel to "Friend is Empathy."

This explained everything I didn't like about the episode, and gave a great look into Twilight and Rainbow's characters. Thank you!

The middle seemed kind of rambling on, but apart from that I liked it.

A nice little one-shot on the episode, I like that you picked up on the revenge inherent in Discord's actions with how he was jealous of Tree-Hugger and then set about in a plot to make Twilight jealous in the most hurtful way possible.

I honestly thought "What About Discord" was the worst episode of the season so this was really good catharsis for me. You pointed out just about every flaw it had along with a few that I missed and managed to smooth it out very nicely. Thanks for this, it was a really nice read and I got through it surprisingly quickly.

Should have a follow-up story showing them confronting Discord.

First off, the fan I am of Empathy was excited to see this work show up. Granted I felt like there was some rambling in there, but it all fits with Twilight's character quite well.

Second, Twilight molting in front of everyone. Why are my Baldness stories coming to mind when I read that part?

Third, I thought the whole moral behind "What About Discord?" was more about how Twilight shouldn't stay cooped up in the library all the time, because the world -and her friends- are passing her by, and she's missing out on opportunities that she'll never get back. If that was how things had been done, it would've been a better episode.

If WAB? was about your third point ... then I don't think that wouldn't have improved things any. Because at the end of the day, different people (and ponies) like different things. And there's nothing wrong with that. The episode right before this one was "Scare Master" and that was the exact message of that episode. Granted, that message was badly botched by pretty much going "Fluttershy was right all the time to hide under her bed and she shouldn't have to change herself," but the idea they were going for wasn't wrong in and of itself. That's also one of the lessons behind "A Friend in Deed" and, in a way, "Too Many Pinkie Pies."

Twilight isolating herself in her library for her entire life before the series start could be described as unhealthy. Her taking one weekend to do something she loved when she had no idea her friends would be doing something else? That I can't see as a problem.

One theory I've seen is that Discord was trying to get Twilight to outright admit to being jealous in general, in light of the fact that, up to that point, she hadn't been sent off on a mission by the Map and was pretty much sitting around her castle doing nothing.

Yeah, I know, you said the same thing here, and it doesn't excuse him being a jerk. I'm just putting that out there.

Well, the IDW comic with Luna and Discord might tie well with this continuity.

You are really good at writing Rainbow Dash.

While this is a good story, I think it could've benefited more from the rest of the main characters showing up and seeing how tormented Twilight was. It would have really driven the point home to each of them that they caused Twilight to feel so bad about herself. I think it also should have gone into discussion about how Twilight wasn't feeling so much jealousy as it was feeling excluded. There are clear differences between being jealous and excluded from stuff. Twilight suffered the latter from her friends when it came to hanging with Discord. Perhaps them realizing that they made Twilight feel left out of the loop and made her deeply upset would have worked out and teach them a lesson about not excluding others out of stuff.

Bravo, Trinary, bravo! I hope the end result is Discord getting petrified, then getting tossed into Tartarus!

Anyway, in all semi-seriousness, great look at Discord and how awful he's really been. No sugarcoating, no alternate interpretations, just, "Discord is really a huge asshole." Because he is.

And that ending, loved it. :D

I wonder if its possible to make a Follow up on this for more closure like the rest of her friends Apologizing to twilight.

Yes. This. Yes.

Sums it up to a tee.

Now, maybe if the show could have something like this (and, more importantly, stick with it), I wouldn't have to facepalm literally every time that patchwork prick shows up.

Not as good as the first one, sorry to say. This story kinda falls flat, and I think you overreached in a few places. But the real problem is the length. You didn't set up the same deep-seated issues between friends that made the original Friendship is Empathy such a gem, and the patterns you do analyze are simple enough that you just plain bury them under Wordy Mcwordwords.

The most interesting bit is the idea that Twilight was traumatized by her loss of control as a filly. It certainly fits her behavior -- she works hard to control things and is afraid that if she screws up then she'll hurt the ponies around her again. Makes perfect sense. Except, we've seen her talk about her cutie mark story. We've seen her lose herself in euphoria while reciting her cutie mark story. The emotional context of that memory is obviously very strong, and it's not compatible with the pattern you've suggested here.

Final grade: B-. Well written and thought provoking, but ultimately too wordy and too many of the thoughts just don't actually lead anywhere.

If the show writers were gonna keep Discord an asshole, why did they (the writers) even bother "reforming" him?

I thought this was great. I really love the back and forth between Twilight and Rainbow. It was emotional and well paced. I did notice one thing off-“As much as the attitude rankled, I think it was mostly because we knew it was true. We are pretty useless with you.” I'm guessing you meant 'without you' there.

Thanks for sharing this. It's pretty great.

Considering how Discord is after his reformation, I wonder if his issues will brought up in the show?

Can you do a friendship is empathy part 3 taking place after 2 4 6 greaaat where rainbow rants to twilight about teaching her a lesson when she didn’t even do anything and also going on about the zombie prank (cause in my opinion while rainbow was in the wrong, that doesn’t make the town right for making rainbow think she committed mass genocide and started an apocalypse) and also how sick and tired she is of the angry glares she gets from her friends just because she says what’s on her mind and they disagree with it?

This was amazing and so cathartic to have these issues properly addressed. It's a damn shame the show writers never thought make an episode like this, but I guess that's what fan fiction is for.

Always forget how much of an asshole Discord sometimes is early on. Great story. Nice change of pace from the usual Wedding/Mare-Do-Well stories.

Great story. I always found it weird how people treat that episode as Discord teaching Twilight a lesson, when it more so comes off as him being a dick.
