Chapter 13
They had begun letting more people go into the room a little while later. Rarity decided to be the next to go in.
She felt a deep anxiety as the nurse led her through corridors, and past other rooms... She didn't want to face this. As they approached the door, she hesitated. What would she find behind that door?...She really didn't want to see for herself.
She took a deep breath, and opened the door slowly, before entering.
The principal was sitting next to the bedside, her face in one of her hands as she leaned over, looking like she had been crying.
Rarity approached the bed slowly. What she saw made her breath hitch in her throat.
"Oh, Sunset..." She whispered.
Fluttershy looked up at the sound of Rarity returning. She paused, looked at Rainbow Dash, and slowly shook her head at her before sitting down once again. Pinkie looked at Fluttershy.
"Want to go together?.." She asked quietly. Fluttershy nodded. "Ok..." She whispered.
Pinkie and Fluttershy returned looking dejected.
Pinkie's hair was flat, and she looked like she had been crying. Fluttershy's eyes were likewise red and puffy. They both sat down without a word. A long silence passed.
Applejack sighed before getting up to go next.
Applejack returned a while later, with her hat at her side. She sat down with her head in her hands and didn't say a word.
Rainbow sighed, and got up. Moment of truth... she thought to herself.
When Rainbow entered the room, principal Celestia was absent. Probably had things to take care of, Rainbow figured.
Rainbow Dash approached the bed, and for the first time, caught a glimpse firsthand, of what her actions had caused. She took one look, and looked away. In that moment, she cursed herself.
She looked back, and for a moment, just stared at all the bandages, bruises, and wounds. She knew that she had as good as done this herself. She crumpled to her knees by the bed, and sobbed.
When she felt she could cry no more, she lifted herself up.
"Sunset....If you can hear me....I'm sorry..." She whispered.
"I'm so....so sorry Sunset. I don't expect you to ever forgive me...But I just need to say that.
You were a best friend to me, and look what I did....friends are always supposed to be there for each other...look out for each other. But I did the exact opposite...I should be the one in a hospital bed right now...I know there's nothing I will ever be able to do to take back what I've done, so...I'll just go. I'm probably the last face you'll ever want to see again..."
With that, Rainbow got up, and went to the door. She put her hand on the handle, and looked back one more time, before opening the door and leaving.
Rainbow went past where the others were, and left without a word. Nobody tried to stop her.
Principal Cinch cleared her throat after some time.
"Well...I suppose it is our turn then." She and Sunny got up and we're directed to the room.
Principal Celestia was back in the room by the time they had arrived. She looked up, surprised to see the rival principal enter the room.
"Abacus Cinch...Sunny Flare." She directed her attention to Cinch.
"I was not expecting that you-"
"No, I'm sure you were not..." Cinch cut her off almost accusingly, as she approached Sunset's side.
The rival school's principal looked upon the girl in the bed. In that moment, it was as if seeing for herself, the damage that had been caused by this train wreck, really did break through the hard shell of the rival principal as she took her glasses off.
"If there is one thing we can ever agree on Celestia...I think it is this...A deed like this should never have even been a thought in the minds of your students."
By the time Twilight and Celestia had arrived at the hospital, it was getting late, and everybody else had already gone home for the night.
As they aproached the room, Twilight saw something she had not been expecting...the principal was in there.
She had kind of hoped she had already left like the others. She didn't know how Celestia would take to meeting...Celestia.
The principal looked in their direction, and for the fist time, Celestia found herself looking at Celestia, and Celestia likewise found herself looking at Celestia.
A nurse passed by the room at that point, and saw Celestia gazing at Celestia.
"Uhh...The nurse looked between Celestia and Celestia.
"We're twin sisters." Princess Celestia quickly covered before giving the other Celestia a knowing look.
"Isn't that right?.."
"Uhh, ya..., twin sisters." She managed to get out after getting over the shock of seeing her other self.
"Alright then...you may stay." The nurse conceded, before dismissing herself.
The princess looked to the bed on which lay her would-be daughter, with the woman who was responsible for overseeing the well-being of the students of her school, or at least, should have been.
She looked to the bed, and felt pain worse than a knife wound at what she saw.
Bandages with some blood showing through...wraps, scars, and stitches. Her face was near unrecognizable due to the swelling, bruises, and bandages. The oxygen machine helping her breathe was the only real encouragement to the princess that she was even still alive.
As for Sunset's consciousness itself, she looked so drugged up, Celestia doubted she was even aware of anything right at that moment.
Princess Celestia felt a surge of anger at her doppleganger....How could this have happened? Was her other self really so stupid to let something even remotely close to this happen at her own school?
As the princess of Equestria, Celestia made it her top priority that every one of her ponies were always, above all, safe.
Everypony in an entire nation! All this woman had to do was look out for a single school!
She looked from the bed, to the principal, with a look of deep hate, and with a quiet voice only the two of them could hear, she uttered.
"If it weren't for the fear of what would happen to their pony counterparts, I would not hesitate to kill each and every individual responsible for this, starting with you..."
The principal simply stared back.
"Nonetheless," the princess continued. "It does not mean there will not be repercussions...Anybody who had any part whatsoever in this will be coming back to Equestria. And they will be staying there."
"Now wait just one minute..." The principal finally found her voice. "That sounds like a threat, and a rather harsh one at that. As the principal, I'm responsible for the safety and well-being of my students."
"Yes...and what a fine job you've been doing of that..." The principal said nothing to that.
"And as for it being harsh..." Celestia looked the principal in the eye. "Seems we in Equestria value life more than here. From what I understand, in this world, attempted murder gets you a mere ten years in prison. Try it in Equestria, and it'll get you a thousand years in stone! And don't think that just because I'm known to be forgiving, means I won't do something like this. I banished my own sister for a thousand years when she tried to take over Equestria...I assure you, we take matters like this VERY seriously in my world."
"They're at the police station right now." She argued. "How would you get them out of there to the portal?"
"Oh, I may not be able to just snap my fingers and have them all teleported to Equestria in chains...but I know someone who could."
"This is insane! They are kids!"
"Oh, they have proven themselves to be much more than kids..."
"Show some mercy..."
"Mercy?? I am able to teleport them to Tartarus if I wanted to! This is merciful!" The principal flinched.
"Would...would this include Rainbow Dash?"
"Rainbow knew what she was doing, and what she was getting herself into. She indeed had deliberate harmful intentions, so yes, this includes Rainbow Dash."
Principal Celestia said nothing...what could she say? How could she argue with the ruler of an alternate dimension? She tried looking to Twilight, but Twilight had no interest in defending the principal or her students.
"As for you...I suppose you'll have to stay here and keep doing your job...even if you're doing a terrible job at it..." The princess took a seat by Sunset's side.
"Now leave this place. You've done enough..." Princess Celestia said coldly.
There was a long pause, before the principal quietly got up, and left without another word.

Sadly, while she may have the power (via Discord) to do so she lacks the jurisdiction and authority in the human world and doing so may invoke a rather negative reaction from the authorities, especially when the offenders are already being put under due process. This is also ignoring the parents who, despite their kids have done, would be concerned with several dozen children disapearing from a police station. Any action Princess Celestia takes beyond leaving it to the authorities would draw unwanted and negative attention to Equestria.

7763583 Princess Celestia doesn't have authority to just take the culprits, (especially without an extradition treaty). What occurred was outside her jurisdiction. She and Twilight are only after revenge. They're allowing personal matters to interfere with business. Two wrongs don't make a right.

There is also the fact that in the first movie and in the comics Celestia herself told Twilight it was too dangerous for too many people to travel across worlds (and it's in the comics that we find out why, the collision of both worlds into each other).
Now that a proper punishment is in order by Princess Celestia. It will be best for Sunset. Hopefully Miss Shimmer goes back with Twilight and Celestia for good.

You know what the sad thing is, one thing I've never seen any fic bring up? Sunset said the she never really celebrated the holidays, so this is Sunset's real first Christmas/Hearth's Warming/whatever they celebrating and her memory of it will probably be ruined by Anon-A-Miss.
Anyway, nice emotionally charged chapter. I may not agree with what Princess Celestia is threatening to do, but can sympathize and understand her motivations for wanting to do it.

If it were any other nation on EARTH, that'd be a completely understandable agruement, but we are talking about a WHOLE FUCKING OTHER DIMENSION! So they would have no need with an extradition treaty as there is no way to reach them without Equestria's aid, and also they do have a reason, this story has been leading us to believe that Sunset is Celestia's daughter, which means that those students had attacked foreign royalty. That alone would be a perfect reason for a foreign country to go to war with another, but Celestia decided to punish only those involved, as opposed to the whole country.

7763696 The only way to and from Equestria is a statue linked to a magical mirror that Twilight can open and close whenever she pleases. All they would have to do to not care what happens on the human side of the portal is bring Sunset as well and the book and it opens only once every three years. And with things the way they are, no one is going to give a rats ass about the friendship games meaning the fabric of reality between Equestria and Human World won't be torn apart by Twilight as without the games happening she will be off to that Everton or whatever place she was blackmailed by Cinch for.
Hell, even with the portal opening Normally once every 3 years all they would have to do to prevent any humans coming through it in retaliation, just put it somewhere like say the moon where no damage will be done should they even try pushing a nuke through and detonating it. Equestria has ALL the advantages with the Mirror alone.
Edit: Oh and I guess bring the Siren's back too since I doubt Celestia wants to leave them to starve or stuck with the humans.

You know, I don't know what's worse; Celestia letting her desire for vengeance (NOT justice) overrule her wisdom and more importantly, her common sense, OR the fact that YOU obviously didn't really read what was said about Rainbow and her honest remorse for what happened to Sunset because of her own ill-judgement.
And while I do agree that Sunset's attackers DO need to face justice for what they did, a certain sun princess does NOT have the right to basically abduct and spirit 30+ teenagers out from their home world to be punished in Equestria.

No where did I say that Celestia dragging everyone that wronged Sunset back to Equestria was right. I just said that Rainbow needed to steel herself for her wrath, which hopefully Luna(is she even aware of what's going on, or did Celly not tell her) or Discord can talk her down before she goes over the line(that's what I meant by if they aren't careful, she and Twilight will end being no better than Rainbow). Besides living with the fact that her actions nearly lead to Sunset being killed(as the fact that she's basically a social pariah now, and let's not even discuss the fact that she's more than likely facing jail time)is punishment enough for Rainbow.
A few things of importance. One, Sunset is an illegal alien, so technically she has very little rights, and with some of her actions, could be considered an invader. Two, when in Rome, do as the Romans. She chose to live there, so those laws will have to do. Three, Celestia isn't after justice, she's after revenge. Four, attempted murder wasn't punished when Nightmare Moon tried to kill Twilight and her friends, or when Sunset tried to kill Twilight. Five, abducting 30+ children? Not going to go well, especially since she has no legal right in anyway, and is basically an act of terrorism, and even more so if you consider dumping the Sirens there as a biological weapon. Somehow, I'm managing to be completely against Princess Celestia in almost every way. I wonder if Discord will agree to help, and more importantly, what would Sunset think?
Also, Equestria would be screwed if they tried something like that. Celestia may not know it, but she'd potentially doom Equestria. The common arguments of the portal only being under Princess Twilight's control or the shape shift is irrelevant, as Friendship Games showed. 30+ missing children would spurn investigation, and between all the other CHS students knowing about magic and human Twilight's magic tracker/drainer and a full on government investigation, they'll be able to create their own portals, and then it would take either a few nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, other WMDs, or, if they manage to prove enough of a threat, a few biological weapons to wipe out Equestria. And that's without learning how to harness magic.
In the end, I doubt Princess Celestia will go through with the plan, whether Discord refuses, Twilight ends up talking her down, Luna stops her, Aria calls her out, she herself realizes that she's in the wrong, or (what I feel is most likely) Sunset talks her down, either before she starts or convinces her to let them go. That, or Celestia goes Nightmare and has to be stopped.
Just one writing tip- kind of abusing ellipses here. It's kind of jarring. Otherwise enjoying the story

Discord would go all out just to keep Fluttershy alone safe from any attack. Discord, a God, Who can WARP REALITY if he feels like it, and he would feel like it if Fluttershy is in danger. Nothing humans can do can prepare them for dealing with a god, despite what various books, TV shows, Moves and Games may make anyone believe.

The remaining 4 only went in one at a time, so there was always someone with the CMC.
7763892 Except Discord isn't a god, he's a spirit of chaos that got beat by a magic absorbing throne, while Fluttershy was in danger, and by Tirek absorbing his magic. A more advanced version of human Twilight's device, maybe one made by the military instead of a girl at a prep school, would be able to stop him, and probably anything else the ponies could do. Besides, with how fast humans can create when we really put our minds to something, it would probably only take a decade or two to master magic on an Equestrian level (especially since Equestrians are limited by their Cutie Marks).
The thing is, it won't go into all out war over night. It would probably start with investigations, which would lead into negotiations. From there, it will be up to Celestia to not force degrading relationships. She'll probably have Sunset's and the Sirens actions thrown at her, plus her own subjects will question her actions. Equestria doesn't have a capable military, and according to the Season 5 finale, Twilight is literally the only competent pony that can accomplish anything. Even if you take the mane 6, Discord, and the other three alicorns, it's literally a few elites (that have a pretty poor track record without magic artifacts, and it's debatable whether the tree of harmony would support them after kidnapping children) against armies with weaponry and technology that they can't even come close to. If Celestia refuses, humans will have time to build up technologies and defeat Equestria. If she tries attacking (maybe by sending magic items with ponies to overcharge them into demons), especially if the Equestrian public supports her, there won't be anything left of Equestria (hey, this other world threat kidnapped children because some people tried to kill an invader and criminal of theirs that has a history of ruining lives, alongside attempted murder and kidnapping, and then tried attacking us? Russia's EQG equivalent, let's see who has the more impressive WMD's).

Except most of them are not children. The second they pretty much mauled Sunset toi within an inch of her life, they stopped being children, hell, when they planning to do this is when they stopped being children.
Also, Whose WMD is more impressive? Should Celestia find a way to enter the human world with her magic, can you say Orbital Solar Death Beams? Or Luna ripping out huge chunks of the moon and smashing them into the planet?

7763996 Yes, those orbital death beams like the ones she used against Chrysalis... Celestia hasn't won a single fair fight in FiM. Her wins include Tirek, which was due to Scorpan, Discord, due to the Elements, Sombra (and the season 5 finale shows she can't take him one on one, only with Luna), and Nightmare Moon, again only due to the elements. She was defeated by Chrysalis, by Nightmare Moon both times before the Elements, Discord, Tirek, changeling drones, and vines. Even if she could bring magic, she couldn't control it, like what we saw happen to Sunset in the first movie, as she isn't using it with harmony. Even if she had the obscene power fanfic writers love to give her (which she has demonstrated time and time again she doesn't have in the show), magic draining devices would still work, as would high power weaponry and biological weapons. It would be bloodier on the human side, but we're still talking maybe a dozen threats against a planet. It also doesn't help that Equestria is a small nation with only a few cities versus armies of millions with thousands of scientists and world wide communication. Plus, that would be ignoring canon, as we've seen how bad a fighter and weak Celestia is (honestly, she's probably weaker than Twilight and Starlight) and how the royal guard fights. Plus, the season ls 4 and 5 finales imply that Equestria's sun and moon aren't much more than light bulbs in the sky, especially since they are moved with no gravitational effects and plants don't need sunlight there. Basically, no such thing as orbital death lasers or moon meteors, and that's even if they can get magic in the human world to work their way in the first place. Equestria doesn't stand a chance.
Oh, and the people who attacked Sunset are minors, regardless of actions. Besides, even if they weren't, Celestia still has no right to do what she did, especially since Sunset shouldn't be there and dumping the Sirens.
7763955 That doesn't really answer my question. I want to know why they didn't go see Sunset. Were they so full of guilt that they couldn't bring themselves to face her? Did the others tell them that they weren't allowed to see her? If so, was it because the others thought the CMC weren't worthy of seeing her, or did they not want to add to the guilt that the CMC were feeling?
