This story is a sequel to Out from the Cradle

It's been two years since the races of Equuis have reached out to the stars. Two years since the first jumpship, Seabound, first hopped between planets.

Now, while running a VIP around on a tour of the Six Worlds they've claimed, the Seabound has the luck (no matter how cursed it might seem) of meeting the nearest galactic neighbors. The same neighbors whose jumpship crashed from the sky years ago, who ponies and griffons copied the technology of to reach the stars: humanity.

It's first contact.

Is this a crossover of starbound or galatic civ 3 distant worlds or eve online? I hope to see more soon

Youve earned a follow

I liked the first one, and this one is going just as strong!

Conquest wasn't their thing, mining was.

Wings.
Griffins have wings.
They wouldn't do underground things.

Other than that write more.

6583988 Actually, some sources do portray griffons as digging for gold with their beaks. Hence griffons-as-miners here. Specifically, griffons are placement miners, not hard rock miners.

"Yes, but people expect a snob. A good act to keep people from underestimating me, don't you agree?" Blueblood trotted off towards the small craft hangar, leaving a surprised pair of mares in his wake.

So are we going to just have people == ponies or is there going to be a situation where a distinction is necessary?

Also, write more.

6605593 Gah. And things like that are why I shouldn't try and do my edit pass when I have a migraine. Fixed it. And I'll write more later; I've got schmuck for classes to do first. So it might be a week or two.

Huh, an MLP/Trinity crossover? Innnnnteresting! :pinkiehappy:

where has the time gone and why has the rum followed?

I'm going to assume they make heavy use of magic to mimic what their significantly nowhere-near-advanced-enough technology and scientific understanding cannot replicate. That, and for the things they have no idea what they do so make a different method using magic.

This would also explain why unicorns are necessary for jumps (and possibly most other tasks).

It is also likely that Equestrian jumpships are far smaller than human jumpships considering both the population difference and technological capabilities. That, and human worlds with high populations would need large ships in great quantity for obvious reasons.

A peaceful contact of equals would be nice.

Right... equals. We are totally not an opportunistic species who will blatantly exploit the ponies' naivety and gem/precious metals rich world and their magic. Don't worry, my little ponies, you can trust us! :trollestia:

Let me address both your comments here.

Humanity isn't exactly a huge, star-spanning empire here. As Cross Lament caught on, this is a crossover with with the tabletop RPG Trinity. Humanity's a little farther along than Equestria; their colonies are bigger at the very least, but they're not claiming hundreds of worlds. In fact, circumstances have put colonization and expansion on hold.

And you're right, the ponies tech base isn't nearly as advanced as humanity's is, and magic is filling in gaps where science hasn't caught up. Mass production is really only now catching on, and it's manned by ponies (or whichever race is operating the factory) on the assembly lines instead of robots like humans use.

That said, Humanity's still fairly low-tech themselves. Artificial gravity is still relatively new to humanity, and most people would still use slug throwers over organic tech lasers.

As for the "Peaceful Meeting of Equals" line...well, in the Trinity universe, humanity's had lousy luck with alien races. They've made first contact three times. Two of which resulted in war. One war's been ended, and the other's just getting started. So, yes, peaceful contact is a plus when your last two contacts came from an invasion of your home system and your diplomats getting blown up.

And finally: No, humanity won't be exploiting magic. Or minerals or anything else. Humanity's got its own resources on all those fronts. Including magic in the form of the Psi Orders. We'll be learning more about them as we go along.

Cause it's not like their leader is at least a thousand+ years old, probably having personally witnessed the worst of everything sentients have to offer. Honestly, I'd be more worried about Ponies taking advantage of US with that kind of diplomatic experience.

Is this still alive?

If I'm to be honest with myself and everyone? No.

I hate admitting that. I really do. But I haven't written anything in over a year that wasn't connected to school in some fashion. And honestly, I'm not really sure I like where I was going with this at the time. So I'll swap the status out and call it here.

Sorry for those of you who're disappointed.

7930905 Sorry that it didn't work out. I wish you the best luck bye!

you need to continue this wonderful story, don't let it just rot and die my fren!

And another one dies. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.
