Holder's Boulder.

It's brought the Pie family good luck for generations.

It's one of the core features of their rock farm.

It's Limestone Pie's personal favorite.

It's also egg shaped and came from a dragon's nest...

Well, this looks like it's going to be fun. Also, interesting interpretation of Maud's talent... and now I want to see Pinkie and Spike bonding over lithovory.

In any case, looking forward to more.

This should be interesting, I just hope that the dragon that hatches out of that egg is friendly. Otherwise, something like this will happen:

Naturally. I've been waiting for that thing to hatch since I first saw it. I'll be watching this one to see where it goes.

From the title, we can guess that it imprint on Limestone.

Like Spike did with Twilight.

i like it and please make more please chapters for this story

Maybe the egg is like a bag of potato chips. Lots of space so the hatchling will be small and manageable

...then a few chapters later the Godzilla-sized momma dragon shows up to get her wyrmling back. Cue pony panic. :pinkiegasp: :twilightoops:

6581424 The trick to raising a creature that imprints on you is to make it think you're a member of its species, otherwise it ends up thinking its a member of your species. So yes, Twilight should have worn a dragon costume as a teenager.

The trick to raising a creature that imprints on you is to make it think you're a member of its species, otherwise it ends up thinking its a member of your species. So yes, Twilight should have worn a dragon costume as a teenager.

Hear that... it suddenly makes Spike's behavior make so much sense.

6585310 Yup. Also, maybe he wouldn't have developed nasty eating habits, like eating baked bads or his obsession with gem cake, if Twilight had simply smashed gems into little fragments so she could swirl them around in her mouth and regurgitate them for hatchling Spike, like every good draconic mother does.

Forgivable since ponies know next to nothing about dragons. (Which is ironic given Dragon Town shows some dragons want to learn about ponies!)

6585331 Ponies are pretty self-involved as a species. Also, I wish Twilight had purchased a diamond scratching post.

I used to think that ponies can't eat rocks, but the new episode with the Pie Family changes everything. So far, I know that emeralds taste sour.

6581735 i hope its big and adorable. I also would like to see a female Dragon for once.

You know, it was always my headcanon that Houlder's Boulder was a Draconequus egg, and that's why Pinkie is so weird even by party pony standards.

I never thought it was a Dragon egg...
There are plenty of other nasties out there that could lay such a huge egg.

Limestone's like the reluctant mom who doesn't want to take care of her child.

This is gonna get featured. I guarantee- nvm just checked, got featured while I was typing.

6596899
Except how many of those nasties would be laying an egg in a dragons nest?

Edit: Well... maybe a Roc could, those things are fuckin dangerous, but we have yet to get confirmation if Rocs exist in Equestria

Actually, fictored is informal slang that combines figured and factored. Fictoring something in means you've got almost psychic financial sense. It might just be the local dialect, though.

Adorable and hilarious on numerous levels. Especially the bit where Twilight renders even the narrator speechless. And the lullaby's continued potency is especially cute. It's going to be an interesting few months for Limestone.

'She couldn't help but morph her face into an expression of disgust as she felt her leg get slathered and tugged by that long, twisting muscle.'

She should have been happy it didn't rip her arm off. I know Twilight is making the best of a bad situation and doing this on the fly . . .

"You spent the most time around the egg, which means you're the one it recognizes the most.

Not gonna question it.

Though logistically speaking, they neither need to find some wild game for this thing to feed off of, or it'll exhaust the rock farm in no time. Yes, I do imagine the Pies has more empathy towards their rocks than to some random wild animals. They can just leave out that detail to Fluttershy.

Starting with somepony who can tell us if it's a boy or girl...

Drake or drakaina. Those are the proper gender terms for a dragon. And I'm surprised Twilight can't tell. Who CAN given pony ignorance of dragons?

"And I failed because I accidentally starved mine! Those things aren't really good measures of parenting ability!"

*Looks at Spike*... If I may say....

On the bright side, nice to see the Pies gave her kids an actual education. More than Applejack ever go.

"I remember you used to sing the twins to sleep," Maud pointed out, waving a hoof at her youngest sisters. "It was adorable."

I went with the fanon they were triplets until word of creator ruined that. And that Maud was logically the oldest. :-(

Igneous added, nodding toward his youngest daughters... who were leaning on each other, entirely asleep.

NOW THAT'S FUNNY!!!!

She called that thing cute? Oy!

I think the Pies are entitled to some extra work hands since Limestone is gonna be trapped for the time being.

Thankfully the windows were not made of glass, but a transparent form of crystal;

Um, technically that's what glass is: it's a type of crystal formed by sand or other rock-based substances that are melted down, then cooled in such a way that the molecules form a crystal matrix (i.e. it becomes crystal).
The actual properties of a given piece of glass, its color, transparency, hardness, etc, can vary widely depending on the material used, its purity, thickness, how fast it cooled, and probably a number of other factors, and while worked glass, like the kind often used for window panes, is shaped as it cools to make the desired, er, shape, the term refers to any crystalline substance formed when earth melts and cools, such as from lightning strikes, around volcanoes (Obsidian is another name for volcanic glass) or, luckily far less commonly, at or near the ground-zero of nuclear or other super-hot explosions (and I think that would mean diamonds are technically a type of glass too).
So unless the Pies somehow took non-glass crystals and shaped them using a non-heat-based technique or ancient rock farmer magic (which I won't dismiss out-of-hand, as inefficient as it seems), those windows are (technically) glass.
[/science]
Of course, I myself have only a passing knowledge of the subject, so it's entirely possible that some of my facts are off, but I'm still pretty confidant in what I've said based on what I know.

And from the very same paragraph:

that she had fictored that expense into repairs

Geology research is apparently not the only thing you failed to "fictor" into your writing.

Luckily, those appear to be the only two mistakes it the chapter. Can't wait to see more of Limetsundere and her giant baby dragon.
And sorry if I got a bit wordy on the glass thing. Sometimes I just can't stop myself.:twilightblush:

Of course the dragon fell asleep from Limestone's singing, I wouldn't be surprised if she talked to Holder's Bolder all the time, the dragon seems Limestone as it's mommy so her voice calms it,it's ingrain into the dragons brain that that is what it's mother is supposed to sound like

.. did you say its wings wer connected to its arms? like a big flying squirrel or bat?

6597205 Aww man, coating her arms in crystal dust is even cuter than my idea of the momma regurgitating gem fragments. I guess Twilight figured an infant won't have teeth yet, so it was safe for the baby to suck on Limestone's arms.

That's a good point about food supply. This thing is roughly 20(?) times as big as Spike was as an infant, thank goodness it was born on a rock farm. I think with a family of 6 using their earth pony magic to regrow the crystals as quickly as possible, it should be feasible to feed that dragon through the century or so of its childhood. That said, the government assistance is probably going to be compensating the Pie Farm for their own crop, they're not going to be exporting or selling so much as a pebble for a long time.

Thanks for teaching me the term drakaina, I'd never heard of that before!

And yeah, Twilight may have over-corrected from her practice baby to her real one... :twilightblush:

I hope this story has lots of Twilight stopping by the farm to share adorable stories of her own experiences with Limestone.

Author, did you by any chance read the Enchanted Forest Chronicles?

Because not only are dragons a major major part of the series, but the way you write the chapter titles are exactly the same as chapter titles in those books.

6617088
No, I have not read said books. However, the importance of draconic characters is quite prolific, as is this methodology of chaptering in some older tales.

Good god this is an awesome premise. I want more of this so badly. I keep finding stories of yours that I like, I should just follow you...

*adds this to the list of stories at which he shouts, "The Show Must Go On!"* :yay:

Other than that, I wanted to say that I'm a big fan of Limestone. Marble gets a lot of love, and I like her too, but Limestone is great.
