A Fork in Time - Pav Feira

Time traveling from five thousand years in the future, Twilight Sparkle—or as she prefers, Glitter-Flanks—has one mission: to establish the closed time loop that sets her and Celestia up as a couple, by flirting as aggressively as possible.

Sugar-Butt

Celestia affixed one final document with her signature, placed it in her outbox, and stretched her neck from side to side. A gentle breeze swept in from her balcony, carrying in the sound of chirping songbirds. Everything just felt brighter, as if somepony had taken the film of life and oversaturated the colors. The whole ordeal with Glitter-Flanks had been taxing in its own right, but thanks to her, Celestia felt like she had discovered a brand new friend in Twilight.

Her paperwork was done for the afternoon. Perhaps she could spend more time getting to know her friend even closer.

A sharp rapping at the door broke her reverie. “Your Highness? May I enter? Please?”

“Rain Storm?” Celestia rose from her writing desk and crossed her chamber. “Of course. Is something the matter?”

She opened the door to find Rain Storm standing outside, his face cast in a bright-pink hue. It complimented quite nicely with the item he was levitating beside him: a sheer pink teddy on a hanger.

Celestia froze, staring at the recognizable garment, wrought from the fires of Tartarus itself. “Wha…”

Rain Storm cleared his throat in a loud, extended effort. “I, uh, I was instructed to return this… outfit, Your Highness.”

“I see.” Celestia tightened her jaw. “How did you come across that, if I might ask?”

“P-Princess Twilight dropped it off this morning,” he said, his blush turning luminescent. “We were able to wash out all of the stains. From the wine.” He swallowed the lump in his throat before continuing. “And as you can see, we were able to repair it. You can’t even notice the stitching.”

Don’t ask. Do not ask him. Ignorance is bliss. Don’t.

Celestia sighed. “Stitching?”

“From the, umm…” Rain Storm tightened his stance at attention, focusing everything into his professional training. “The garment was given to us… ripped. Down the entire length, Your Highness.”

Celestia let out a slow, painful sigh, and brought a hoof to her face. “Rain Storm, I would like to assure you that there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for all of this.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

Shaking her head, she raised one of her hooves, holding it about a head above her. “Princess Twilight. When she delivered the… outfit to you this morning, you must have noticed she was much taller than usual? With her mane in a different style?”

“Your Highness?” Rain Storm blinked vacantly at Celestia, before holding his hoof only slightly above his own head. “Princess Twilight appeared much as when I let her into your chambers last night.” He inhaled with a hiss, as though he’d stepped on a foal’s building blocks. “I-I mean, I wasn’t meaning to insinuate—”

“Rain Storm?” Celestia cut him off before he dug himself any further, and smiled reassuringly. “Thank you for returning the outfit. Is there anything else?”

He licked his lips and shifted his weight on his hooves. “Your Highness, as one of your loyal guards, I would just like to stress that your privacy is always our highest concern. If there is anything—”

“Of course, Rain Storm. Thank you.”

“Yes, Your Highness.” Rain Storm bowed sharply, turned, and retreated as fast as his professional training would allow.

Celestia closed the doors behind him, scrunched up her muzzle, and tossed the teddy onto her bed. “Alright, Sparkle.” She grabbed a fresh parchment and a quill from her desk, floated them in front of her, and stared at them a moment. A gleeful smirk crossed her face, and she began to write. “You brought this one on yourself.”

Oh man, that was fun! Couldn't stop grinning! Well done!

God damn was this hilarious. I had to stop reading at several points just to let the laughter flow.

:rainbowderp:Well, that was something else...and I like it.

This was brilliant. Hilarious and heart warming!

And now I'm lost... :rainbowhuh: Well I still got a bunch of laughter out of the last one so I really can't complain.

You... You brilliant goddamn son of a bitch.

~Skeeter The Lurker

Well, that was certainly something. :trixieshiftright: :ajbemused:

Quite a something actually. :duck:

Something that was nothing lass then freaking fantastic! :rainbowlaugh: :pinkiehappy: :raritystarry:

Now if you don't mind I'm going too raid your story folder for similar gems. :coolphoto:

My head was pounding the whole way through. So many questions, but you tied them all up very well in a quite comedic way. Well done.

Well, that was... bizarre. In a good way.

That was fun. I love when we get to see Celestia's nervous side. And I love future Twilight, sounds like she'd throw a great party.

I'm not normally a fan of this pairing, but damn, that was good. Enjoy your spot in the feature box. You deserve it.

This is perfect. You're perfect. Everything is perfect.

As nuch as i was laughing while reading, the way older twi plays both celestia and twilight like a damn fiddle is disquieting.

Twilight says celestia still has choice but doesn't give her time to think before the dinner and she even sets up younger twis prank in motion.

I guess i just felt as if neither celestia or young twi had any agency to choose a path that wasn't what old twi planned. It just kind of ruined the romance of it for me.

Heh! This was a fun time that had me smiling almost the whole way threw. One of the more interesting starts to there ship that I have read.

Would you consider a sequel that goes into there ever escalating prank war vs each other? That by it's self could be fun to read even if you didn't get into them slowly falling in love.

freaking awesome
and i dont usually go in for this pairing

This was definitely a balancing act, and part of why the story went through so much revising before I finally published it. Earlier drafts had Glitter-Flanks leveraging an uncomfortable amount of power over Celestia and especially over Twilight; I found out quickly that "It won't feel wrong for Glitter-Flanks to manipulate Twilight because they're the same pony" didn't hold water. At all.

In the end, while I did give Glitter-Flanks the upper hoof overall (5000 years of studying under a chessmaster will do that to you), it was by no means unchallenged. Celestia got several moments where she was able to push back against Glitter-Flanks and still remain competitive. Twilight got pulled into the ruse, but she saw through it as soon as the gift arrived and served as a willing participant, even if she underestimated the effect she'd have.

I definitely understand how the heavy degree of meddling in the premise could be off-putting, so mea culpa for that. If it's any consolation though, this is only really a date. The romance is still to come, but Celestia has a hunch now... The two of them will turn out pretty great.

You get a like for the copious interaction and feels.

You get a follow for Sparkles pulling the 'you gave me this name' on Celestia. That was brilliant.

Shipping fics are usually not my thing, but this one was both hilarious and heart warming. Awesome.

6509461 Twilight ripped the outfit and delivered it to the guard, with orders that it be "returned" to Celestia. What conclusions might that guard draw from a lewd costume, ripped, related to both Twilight and Celestia, who had been spending the evening together?

Hilarious, and strangely poignant.

Then things really got really twisted when Alicorn Fluttershy, Alicorn Rainbow Dash, Alicorn Pinkie Pie, Alicorn Rarity and Alicorn Apple Jack showed up looking for their own share of sugar butt and glitter-flanks fun...

But seriously... This is one time travel loop that is messed up in a twisted way that makes one wonder how twisted the future became all because of the twisted time loop..heh...:twistnerd::moustache:

6510187 ah yeah I see what you mean. one date doesn't make a relationship by its self.

Young twi and celestia will still have to put a lot into building it and making it work while still maintaining their responsibilities.

It is an intriguing story, did anything inspire it?

6510661 Ah, that makes a lot more sense, I guess I just got confused. :rainbowderp:

Trolltage commences

6510034 Wat R u doin... Azira... Staph. Dat Feels!

Exactly what I was expecting. Very funny and fairly cute.

Was disappointed by the lack of weather vanes though. :trollestia:

These are Luna's speciality. So of course they are absent from a pure Twilestia story.

6511385

That gag will live on forever. :rainbowlaugh:

6510187 it doesin't show the flow of the story is natural and works it doesin't seem edited (that's a good thing)

and i never stopped smiling this whole thing is perfect you did a great thing!

This was amazing! :rainbowlaugh: I, like some other readers in the comments, don't really ship this ship....but this....THIS was just too perfect! Well done!!! I was very amused the whole way through.

Is it wrong that I wonder if the comedy aspect could still be made to work if the story had unfolded in such a way as to actually break the time loop so that Celestia and Twilight really didn't end up together?

So I don't ship Twilestia, like--at all, but this was just amazing! Really well written!

Immeasurable thanks to GaPJaxie, Corejo, Themaskedferret, and RedSquirrel456 for their editing assistance, for subjecting themselves to this nonsense, and for their unending support and encouragement. They could have prevented this.

But we didn't. When I lay awake at night staring at the ceiling, I know this was the right choice.

One day, justice will find us.

Amazing story, thanks for the laughs and the feels, a bit of each.

this was wonderful. I loved it. definitely recommend reading it!

that was fun :)

Well, I wrote a blogpost that semi-jokingly went into some of the motivation, tl;dr that I'd been inspired to play around my OTP in a fic that wasn't as heavy as my other Twilestia fic. But the other angle of inspiration which I didn't mention there, was the entire angle of reversing the power dynamic. Celestia is the mature mentor figure and Twilight is the emotionally unhinged protege, and that carries through in most of the fanfiction about them. Heck, both of my stories fall into the trope of Celestia being emotionally guarded and slow to change, with (present-day) Twilight trying to push for something more.

Glitter-Flanks was a fun way to shake up that formula. For all her lewdness, suddenly she was more mature and more in-control of the situation than Celestia. Celestia was left at a loss, struggling to cope with a pony who could outmaneuver her and knock her off-balance with a single, well-placed quip. This, in turn, opened up her more vulnerable side which, aside from being part of Glitter-Flanks's shipping plan, was also cute. :rainbowkiss:

Thank you! I ended up making impossible standards for myself, and fretted a lot over the final product. It's very reassuring to hear that all the effort paid off.

6511523 :raritywink: All of us who know it will make sure of that, right?
6511454 Bah. I'd have died if Glitter-Flanks had included one in the things Sparkle could have used to prank Celestia with.
Even if they are Luna's thing, a nod is still nice.

6512621

I'm curious if that was intentional, or if the smile Celestia 'recognized' is meant to be something else and I saw a link that wasn't there.

my only regret is that i have but only one upvote to give

6513802 I know what you mean

Thank God for this story

The mixing up traditional TwiLestia tropes was really sweet! Not that the normal tropes are bad but this is such a great spin on the genre. Almost a parody, albeit a very loving one. Not quite, but almost.
You had me going with Twilight's overbearing attitude during the date. I legit thought the fic was just jumping the shark. How foolish of me! To doubt the wisdom of Pav Feira! That was a supreme reveal. Also, Glitter-Flanks cementing her nickname in the time loop was great.
Altogether this was really just excellent! Super glad it exists.

I am kind of conflicted about this story. On the one hand, Ìt's iterally made of all my least favourite things about a story. I really kind of want to hate it, because as it turns out, a double negative is still not a positive. On the other hand, though, the idea is so funny and it pulls off its weirdness so well, I just can't bring it over myself. I really don't know what to think about it.

Let the pranks begin! :rainbowlaugh:

6514492 I'm in a similiar boat. But it was a very funny read, it made me smile, so with that in mind, why ask anything else of it? It is what it is.
