Knackerman

I am the Knackerman. Most of my writing deals with horror, suspense, and tragedy. And yes, there will be gore.

There was no talking, there was no smiling, there were only rocks. But how then did Pinkie Pie first learn about parties? How did she learn to be such a great baker working on a farm full of rocks? Why did she leave her happy family?
Not everything is as it seems with Pinkie Pie, but she'd be happy to tell you in her own words how she came to be in Sugarcube Corner...why she loves cupcakes...and why she giggles at the ghosties. Pinkie Pie 0rigins is secretly a prequel to the story 'Cupcakes' and deals with her relationship with her family and how Pinkie changed from being a depressed little filly to one who's happy and full of smiles.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I've actually never read a Cupcakes prequel, and its nice to see your take on how it happened. Now I'm just realizing she ate her... Awkward.

i LOVE this cupcakes prequel :D :pinkiehappy: who knew she would go insane:pinkiecrazy:

This is awesome. :)

Glad you all liked it! :pinkiehappy:
I often wonder why we don't see more stories exploring Pinkie Pie's relationship with her family. I know this is a bit of a dark take on it all, but personally I'm incredibly curious about the Pie Family and would love to see more stories done with them, in both fan fiction and actual episodes.

I am writing a story about apple bloom and pinkie pie trying to survive a zompony attack while trying to find other ponies. is that a good enough plot?

Can you explain to me Pinkie's motive for being so insane? I mean I read the story but I didn't quite get it...could you explain to me in a little more detail to me? Pleeeeeaaaassse?

Well, been awhile since I wrote this but here's how I thought of it at the time. Bare in mind this is a prequel to Cupcakes so the continuity is slightly different from the actual show.
I saw filly Pinkie Pie as a very frightened little pony growing up, almost pathologically so.:pinkiesad2: Pinkie's family were farmers, honest folk but simple and plain. She specifically said there was no laughter on the farm, no smiling, so it stands to reason her parents were fairly strict and that her and her sisters had enough chores that they didn't really get up to much in the way of playing. Add to this that Pinkie Pie had a fear of the dark when she was little and you get a picture of a very stressed little girl who spends her days working hard on the rock farm and her nights huddled in fear with little comfort from parents who are more concerned with getting enough rest for the hard day of work tomorrow. You can almost picture her wandering into her parents room after hearing a noise outside, scared stiff and wanting to be reassured and instead being told to go back to sleep, they don't have time for her nonsense. They have work in the morning.
The one exception to this rather cruel life is her grandmother. She especially loves her grandmothers baking (especially those special cupcakes), and its from her that she learns a love for cooking. Here a take a bit of liberty and imply that the visits with Granny Pie are the one time she doesn't have to do chores on the farm and that all the fun she's having distracts her from her apprehensions about the dark and what might be lurking in it. It's her Granny Pie that teaches her to laugh at her fears and to be brave in the face of what scares her.
What sets things off the rails is when I go for the classic hillbilly cannibals trope. If you've seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Hills Have Eyes, or heck, even The Wicker Man, you'll know what I'm talking about. Basically I decided that for Pinkie Pie to be as messed up as she is in Cupcakes she would have had to suffer some sort of childhood trauma that made her that way. BUT, and this is the important part, she would still have to be the happy, hyper, smiling little pony we know and love :pinkiehappy:...she couldn't be maudlin or reclusive. So what was the explanation for this? In this story it turns out there really IS something to be afraid of in the dark, Pinkie HAS been hearing strange things at night and there's more going on in her quiet farming community than meets the eye. Since the story was done as a treat for Halloween, I'd tied it into an idea of earth ponies sacrificing other ponies as a ritual of thanksgiving for the harvest. (nopony important, outsiders and drifters mostly, you get the idea) As a child, Pinkie wouldn't be included in this, nor would she readily be able to understand it. So she wanders into the revelry of it all and there's this nice person who's leading it, who seems to be looking after her and making the others treat her kindly. Of course when Pinkie stumbles on the body of the sacrifice she doesn't realize she's in no danger. All she sees are the party decorations made from body parts and the costumes and the masks made from dead ponies. She Flees, all her old fears crashing in on her and driving her just a little bit insane as she flees from something so horrible she can barely grasp it.
Then we get to the upshot. She flees to her one safe place...not home, that's too far away and she'd have to double back through the Harvest ritual. No, she goes to her Granny's...and finds out rather abruptly that her granny was the one leading the rituals the entire time. The secret ingredient in her baking is known to Pinkie Pie at that point...the bits and pieces of ponies killed and preserved in her grandmothers basement. She is the descendent of cannibals, and the most frightening thing in the dark is the only person who ever tried to comfort her, the only person who ever showed her kindness. Though she might not be able to understand the rest of what happened that night, this she can grasp. This realization shatters her little mind rather completely much to her grandmothers dismay. The Harvest ritual is a closely guarded secret among the farming community and though Granny Pie was grooming Pinkie Pie to eventually take over as the head of it all, she never meant for her granddaughter to find out about her role like this. In her own twisted way, she tries to make it up to Pinkie by showing her how to make her cupcakes with the only fresh supply of her secret ingredient that she has close to hand...her own body. Pinkie Pie is already screwed up beyond reason at this point, but this is what re-solidifies her shattered mind into the twisted psyche she has in Cupcakes. So she loses the ability to feel fear or terror, instead laughing and smiling about everything in the world. Even her grandmother dismembering herself and giving Pinkie Pie pieces of her body baked into cupcakes to eat. After this, darkness isn't frightening anymore, death is meaningless, and there's nothing that fresh cupcakes can't fix.

TL;DR - Pinkie Pies domineering family screwed her up and her Grandmother was grooming her to be the head of the Harvest Ritual. She was already damaged at the start of the story, the events of the story break her irrevocably and then her Grandmothers sacrifice at the end is what 'fixes' her in such a way as to make her the Pinkamena we see in Cupcakes.

This is a very well written story! I ran away from my computer for about five minutes! It was amazingly plotted! Thank you!

That is a good background as to why Pinkie would do what she does in that story.

Perfection.

I've reviewed this here.
