The HiE genre of ponyfics has gotten past the point of marketing a story as a dark twist on the generic formula. Don't write a dark HiE as an attempt at breaking new ground when the very same ground that you're trying to break has been treaded a hundred times over.

I don't need to know what his hair and skin color are. As a reader, I don't need an author to tell me how to envision their characters unless those features play a major role in their story. I just need something to get a feel for the character. What does the color of his hair tell me? Fuck all.
