KarmaSentinal

Inspiring drifter in the sea of the written language.

E

Hank is a run of the mill cattle dog doing what normal cowdogs do when he isn't patrolling deadly pastures, fighting off a whole pack cannibal coyotes, laying down ranch law, dealing with a lazy assistant and the list goes on.

As Head of Ranch Security, his daily routine was a tried and true schedule personally tested by Hank himself. So when he wakes up in the middle of the desert his first instincts is to use the sun and his good old nose to get him home. What he finds instead isn't the ranch or Slim's house, but a town chalk full of confused horses thinking they're people!

Hank needs to get back home before Pete the cat installs a dictatorship or the coyotes invade but first it looks like this cowdog has to lay down the law and restore order to these adorably colorful horses.

My sister and I are both big fans of Hank the Cowdog. I will definitely be reading this, and so will my sister.
You make me really mad though. We were going to write this, but you beat us to it. I even had the perfect cover image, it took me quite a while to make.
Check it out here. If you want, I'll even send you a copy.

6455149 I'm glad to see other Hank the Cowdog fans on fim! I haven't read Hank in a few years and just randomly I wanted to read some Hank Crossovers and to my surprise there weren't any and so I had to change that. I will admit I'm rusty with Hank the Cowdog, and all I really did was dig out my old books for references and started writing.

I will most defiantly read your story, but I have to ask that if/when you do read mine, feel free to point out anything you find wrong ok? I'm trying my best to match Hank's character and write the chapters in a way that gives it the feeling you're reading a Hank the Cowdog book.

Edit: Ok, that is an amazing cover! XD

My eyes did indeed NOT betray me. Hank the Cowdog. Damn.

I haven't read that series since probably around 2000, when I was in fifth grade.

It was my favorite series of all time back then. I had always wished they made a cartoon out of it. Those hopes were never fulfilled.

The Story synopsis even stays true to what you would have read on the back of one of those books.

Well, well, well. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

6455763 I didn't know about this until I started refreshing my knowledge of Hank the Cowdog, but they're working on an animated movie. http://www.hankthecowdog.com/blog/trailer-for-the-upcoming-hank-the-cowdog-movie

Awww. I had always imagined him with a deeper voice. The accent is spot on, though. Just make the voice a few octaves deeper and that's how I imagined it.

Also, looks like my childhood dream is coming true. It's getting an animated series.

Oh my god, I haven't read this in YEARS, Thank you so much.

Hmm, interessting so far. Can´t say I am familar with Hank but what I see, I do like.^^

I didn't know who Hank the Cowdog was until I searched for it. Oh my god I haven't read one of those books in forever. I'll definitely keep track of this. :rainbowkiss:

This was a fun read. Haven't read a book like this in years. It was nostalgic.

Hey, glad you’re enjoying what’s here so far! Same with, Hank was one of the first book series that got me into reading, and I wanted to capture that feeling with this story. Wouldn’t be Hank if he weren’t acting as a Cowdog, uh? :ajsmug:

Since re- releasing the story, I need to ask what do you think of it so far? Anything that comes off as too glaring while you read?

Ok, just finished and caught up. For those who don't know it, "Hank the Cowdog" is a set of children's books based on the title character. I feel that this story does justice to the original books. As far as the story itself goes, KarmaSentinal has done a decent job.

My only nit pick would be that the story seems a bit slow paced and the Author may want to introduce some more scenes of action or real interest to keep the reader engaged.

Other than that, there is nothing wrong with the story.
It keeps the spirit of the source material extremely well. You Just have to add hooks every chapter or two, in order to keep the readers engaged.

I appreciate you taking the time to providing some context to the story's source material, and noting the flaws. You're right. The story is slow to start, but that my intention trying to depict Hank's reaction to finding out his whole world is suddenly flipped upside down. But I can say the next several chapters are the action chapters as Hank is thrusted head first into the action of this first arc.

I can't say when it'll be ready since I have two other stories that are being worked on as well, but I can say the story is on my radar and being worked on here and there.

You know what's funny? I found out Matthew Mcconaughey is voicing Hank in a radio style podcast! I've listened to about four episodes so far and its funny hearing him as Hank but he does a good job. He not only voices him, but helped produce the show with the author's son and the help H.E.B. Crazy!
